To stream recorded Valorant gameplay as a YouTube Live broadcast, use FFmpeg to read the local video at real-time speed and send it to the ingest URL and private stream key shown in your YouTube Live Control Room. This is a live ingest session—not a normal YouTube video upload—and the game does not need to be running. The command below is a starting point for an H.264 1080p30 recording; adjust its settings to fit the file and your sustained upload capacity.
FFmpeg command for a recorded Valorant stream
Replace the input filename, ingest URL, and stream key placeholders with your own values. The URL and key are account-specific; get them from the current YouTube Live Control Room rather than copying an address from an older tutorial.
ffmpeg -re -i "recording.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
The 8 Mbps video target is within YouTube’s H.264 1080p30 recommendations, but it is not a universal setting. Lower it if your connection cannot sustain it. The audio options configure stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; this command sets a 60-frame GOP at 30 fps, corresponding to two seconds. [YouTube encoder settings]
Prepare YouTube Live and protect your stream key
- Confirm that your account has access to YouTube Live and create or configure a broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Copy the current ingest URL and private stream key from the Control Room. Use the exact values shown for your broadcast; do not publish them in a screenshot, public repository, article, or example command.
- Keep the broadcast private or unlisted while testing if that suits your needs. FFmpeg sending video to an ingest endpoint does not itself determine the audience-facing broadcast’s visibility or guarantee that it is public.
- In a terminal on the computer or server holding the recording, run the command with the correct file path and current ingest credentials.
- Check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Verify picture, sound, and motion before sharing the broadcast.
YouTube says its encoder settings are automatically detected by default and recommends testing with representative audio and movement. Its guidance describes RTMPS as RTMP carried through an SSL connection. [YouTube encoder settings] [YouTube Live streaming options]

Choose the bitrate and profile for your recording
Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to match both the output you want and what your upload can reliably sustain. YouTube’s H.264 figures below are video bitrate recommendations; leave additional capacity for audio and network variation. They are platform recommendations, not guarantees that a particular Indian ISP or route can maintain a stream.
| Target profile | YouTube H.264 video bitrate | Keyframe interval | Practical note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | The sample uses 8 Mbps, a middle-ground starting target when the connection can sustain it. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps minimum; 17 Mbps recommended | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | Requires more upload headroom than 1080p30, especially when motion is fast. |
These figures are from YouTube Help’s encoder guidance, accessed in 2026. Test upload speed and monitor stream health from the actual connection you plan to use; download speed does not establish available upload capacity. [YouTube encoder settings]

- 4K60 Capture: Record in cinematic quality with crisp detail and vivid colors
- HFR Support: Play and capture in 1440p120 or 1080p240
- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows
- Cross-Platform Compatible: Works with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and more
- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
YouTube’s current encoder guide supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS up to 60 fps. H.264 is used here as the straightforward choice for a typical FFmpeg workflow. If changing codecs, confirm that your installed FFmpeg build and encoder support the required options.
Check the file before streaming
The -re option paces input at approximately its normal playback rate. A ten-minute recording therefore takes about ten minutes to send; FFmpeg is not uploading the file as fast as the connection allows. The example assumes a compatible file with video and audio. Inspect unusual or mismatched media before broadcasting, for example with ffprobe, and adapt the command as needed.

- If the recording is not 30 fps, decide whether to preserve its cadence or convert it. The sample requests 30 fps; differing or variable frame rates may need an explicit filter and careful checking for duplicated or dropped frames.
- If the source dimensions differ from the intended output, choose an explicit scale only after checking the source. The sample does not set a scale filter.
- If the file has no audio stream, remove or revise the audio options; otherwise FFmpeg may report an audio-stream error.
- Unusual pixel formats, codecs, or variable frame rates may require conversion. The sample’s
yuv420poutput is a common compatibility target, not a guarantee for every source or FFmpeg build.
India-specific considerations
The reviewed YouTube encoder guidance does not establish a special India-only FFmpeg command, ingest hostname, or bitrate adjustment. Use the ingest values shown in your own Live Control Room and test over the actual Indian connection you intend to stream from. Network route and sustained upload can affect results, so avoid treating one speed test or a setting copied from another location as proof that the stream will remain healthy. YouTube’s general guidance is to test capacity and monitor stream health. [YouTube encoder settings]
Copyright and broadcast checks
Streaming a prerecorded file as a live broadcast does not bypass YouTube’s copyright rules. Use gameplay footage and any music or other audio only when you have the necessary rights or permission. Check the broadcast preview and any YouTube notices before promoting the stream. Whether an account or broadcast is eligible for particular features or monetization depends on YouTube’s current account and content rules; a successful FFmpeg connection does not establish eligibility. Troubleshoot common failures
- FFmpeg cannot connect or YouTube shows no incoming stream: Recheck the current ingest URL and stream key for typos, and confirm the broadcast is configured in Live Control Room. Do not reuse a stale server address from a tutorial.
- The stream starts but buffers or reports poor health: Reduce
-b:vand-maxratetogether, then set-bufsizeconsistently with the chosen bitrate. Check sustained upload capacity and leave headroom for audio and variation. - Video or audio is missing: Inspect the input streams with
ffprobe. If there is no audio, remove audio encoding options; if the file uses an unusual codec or pixel format, convert it to a compatible format before or during streaming. - Motion looks uneven or frame cadence is wrong: Compare the source frame rate with the requested
-r 30. Choose a suitable target and, if needed, use an explicit frame-rate filter after inspecting the source. - FFmpeg rejects an option or encoder: Check the installed build and whether it includes
libx264; option availability depends on the build and encoder. Install or select a build with the required support, or adapt the command to an available encoder. - The FFmpeg process is running but viewers cannot see the expected broadcast: Check the broadcast’s status and visibility in Live Control Room, along with the incoming preview. The encoder process and YouTube’s viewer-facing broadcast are separate parts of the workflow.

Can I stream a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live stream?
Yes. FFmpeg can send a local file to YouTube’s live ingest endpoint in real time, provided you have Live access, a configured broadcast, and its active stream key.
Does FFmpeg need Valorant to be running?
No. In this workflow FFmpeg reads the recorded file; it does not capture a live game session.
