To loop Tibetan singing bowl audio on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, send the audio file alongside a still image or looping video, and put -stream_loop -1 before each input’s -i. Use this FFmpeg command pattern
This example loops an audio file and a visual file independently. It is a starting point, not a tested command; replace the filenames and ingest URL/key with your own values.

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"FFmpeg’s command-line documentation explains its input/output options and RTMP muxing. -stream_loop -1 asks FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely; place it before the corresponding -i. -re reads file input at real-time pace, which is appropriate when feeding a live endpoint instead of processing the file as quickly as possible.
The -map options explicitly select video from the second input and audio from the first. If your visual file is a video loop, its duration may differ from the audio’s; listen and watch the output to confirm that the combination behaves as intended. You can instead prepare a single video file containing the bowl audio and map both streams from that input. YouTube does not prescribe one of these arrangements.

What the encoding options do
-c:v libx264encodes video as H.264, and-pix_fmt yuv420psets a commonly supported pixel format.-r 30sets 30 frames per second. With-g 60, the GOP/keyframe interval is two seconds.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100selects AAC audio at 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends CBR, AAC or MP3 audio, and for stereo, 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Confirm the current settings in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance before publishing.- YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval for RTMP/RTMPS and says not to exceed four seconds. The example’s 60-frame GOP at 30 fps gives two seconds.
The sample command does not explicitly set a video bitrate or CBR mode. Select a video bitrate and rate-control configuration appropriate to your output resolution and YouTube’s current guidance rather than assuming these defaults meet every stream’s needs. Confirm that your FFmpeg build supports the selected input formats and codecs.
Set up YouTube Live and protect your stream key
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key for its encoder setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP; use the protocol and destination supplied for your stream.
- Replace
YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URLandYOUR_STREAM_KEYin the command with the values from Live Control Room. The combined destination format in the example is illustrative; use the exact URL and key arrangement YouTube provides for your encoder. - Run FFmpeg and watch the Live Control Room preview and stream health. YouTube’s encoder workflow has you start sending the feed and check the control room; for a scheduled stream, you may need to click “Go live” after the preview appears.
- Keep the stream key private. It tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not expose it in a public page, screenshot, repository, or shared command history. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
The cited YouTube encoder materials do not establish that an audio-only RTMP feed will be accepted as a YouTube Live broadcast. This command includes a visual input; do not remove it unless you have separately confirmed audio-only ingest for your setup.

Check the loop and plan for stream length
Listen for a bad join
Looping an input does not guarantee a seamless audio join. Listen to the boundary for silence, clicks, level changes, or a mismatch in duration. If needed, edit or crossfade the source recording before streaming, then verify the encoded result in the preview.
Choose a session length if you need an archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the full program matters, plan a shorter session or make a local recording; YouTube recommends a local archive backup. See YouTube’s live archive guidance.

Clear rights for the actual recording
The fact that a recording features Tibetan singing bowls does not establish that the recording is free to use. The sound recording can have its own rights, separate from the tones or traditional practice. YouTube’s livestream terms say creators must have the rights needed for live content, including music licensing rights. Use your own recording or one whose license permits the intended live broadcast and any archive, and keep a copy of the permission or license.
Troubleshoot common problems
- FFmpeg says an option or codec is unavailable: Confirm your FFmpeg build supports the specified input format and encoders. Check the spelling and placement of options, especially that each
-stream_loop -1precedes its input’s-i. - YouTube does not show a preview: Check that FFmpeg is still running and that the stream URL and key match the values in Live Control Room. Review the control room’s stream health before going live.
- The audio or visual is missing: Verify that the input paths are correct and that the files contain the expected streams. Check the explicit mappings:
1:v:0selects video from input 2, while0:a:0selects audio from input 1. - The loop has a click, pause, or abrupt change: Inspect the source-file boundary and the relative durations of the inputs. Edit or crossfade the recording if needed, then test the encoded output.
- The stream does not remain live: Check whether FFmpeg stopped, whether the source or connection failed, and what Live Control Room reports. The example does not itself provide automatic recovery if the encoder process or connection fails.
