What is coming to Fallout 76?
Bethesda Game Studios’ September 30, 2026 letter from Creative Director Jon Rush and Production Director Bill LaCoste outlines several planned additions through summer 2027. The headline items are a world-traveling pet system, bounty-focused content, Hideouts, and a new map area extending southeast toward the Capital Wasteland.

All timing in the table comes from Bethesda’s September 30, 2026 letter and should be read as a roadmap plan, not a confirmed release schedule. Bethesda’s directors’ letter does not give an exact date for these releases.
When is Fallout 76 World Pets coming out?
World Pets are planned for December 2026. The system is intended to let a C.A.M.P. pet accompany its owner in the world, rather than remain only at the player’s C.A.M.P. Bethesda says a pet becomes more capable as it adventures and levels up beside its owner.

Existing pet interactions are expected to carry over, with new commands including “Stay,” “Follow,” “Protect,” and “Kill.” Those are features described in the roadmap; the letter does not detail how each command will work in play.
What is the Skyline Valley bounty content?
Bounty hunting in Skyline Valley is part of Bethesda’s winter plans. The letter connects the activity to the Blue Ridge Caravan Company’s decision to close operations in the region, and frames the area as somewhere to take a newly combat-hardened pet.
Bethesda’s news index also lists a September 28, 2026 public-test announcement for PC players covering the latest World Pets changes and Skyline Valley bounty hunting. That listing confirms a test context, not a general release date or a guarantee that the public-test version will match the final feature set. See the Fallout news index.
What are Hideouts, and who is The Drifter?
Hideouts are planned for next spring, meaning spring 2027 relative to the September 2026 letter. Bethesda describes them as dangerous encampments in abandoned areas, centered on taking down a prominent enemy. The encounters are meant to be harder than routine content, encourage teams to try different approaches, and provide a step between the early endgame and Raids for most levels.

Marked difficulty
A new “Marked” difficulty is planned for experienced teams seeking a greater challenge and better rewards. Bethesda has not published detailed rules, reward values, or a launch day for it in the letter.
The Drifter
The Drifter is introduced as a rival bounty hunter who attempts to eliminate players and claim the rewards. Bethesda raises the possibility that the character could be a rogue agent or an Enclave operative, but presents those identities as speculation rather than confirmed facts.

Is Raven Rock a new Fallout 76 map?
Bethesda says Fallout 76’s map will expand southeast toward the Capital Wasteland in 2027, with Raven Rock as the roadmap’s central named location. The letter places the story almost 200 years before Fallout 3 and says the destruction it refers to occurred 27 years earlier. That 27-year figure is the announcement’s in-story chronology, not an independently established calendar date.
The announcement does not specify the expansion’s exact release date, map dimensions, named quests, launch platforms, or a complete list of included locations. “Toward the Capital Wasteland” does not confirm that other particular Fallout 3 locations will be part of the expansion.

What other Fallout 76 improvements are planned?
The directors’ letter also points to work on Seasonal Events, rendering, weather, the new-player experience, and fishing. It mentions seasonal fish and rumors of a gold Axolotl. These are broad plans: the letter does not assign delivery dates or spell out final implementation details for each item.
