Before you publish a Marketplace listing, check both the listing itself and what a buyer can see on your Facebook profile. Meta says buyers may see a profile overview—including how long you have been on Facebook and your friend count—alongside a summary of your Marketplace activity. Adjust your profile audiences, inspect your listing details, and do not assume a listing can be hidden from every friend.
What Marketplace buyers may see about a seller
In its March 12, 2026 announcement, Meta said Marketplace buyers may see a seller profile overview with the seller’s time on Facebook and friend count, plus a Marketplace activity summary that can include listing history, item types, and seller ratings. Those details are separate from the listing’s description, photos, price, and transaction arrangements. Meta’s Marketplace announcement describes these features in the US and Canada context; availability and presentation may vary.
Meta also described optional AI auto-replies that can use listing information such as description, availability, pickup location, and price. Review those details before publishing, and consider what information you are comfortable using if you enable the feature.
Check your profile as a visitor would
Use Facebook’s profile-view tools to inspect what the public or a particular person can see. Look at public posts and profile details, not just the content you intend Marketplace buyers to view. Facebook’s Privacy Checkup and profile privacy guidance cover audience selection, tag review, timeline review, and how to review your profile as visitors see it.

- Open your Facebook profile and use the option to view how your profile appears to the public or a specific person, if available.
- Review visible profile details and posts. Change the audience for anything you do not want people outside your intended audience to see.
- Check profile and tagging controls, including tag review and timeline review, to manage which tagged posts appear on your profile.
These profile controls govern profile content; they do not establish whether a Marketplace listing will appear in a friend’s feed, search results, or a shared group. Facebook notes that settings can vary by profile type and app version.
Limit visibility of your friends list—but understand the limits
Facebook says the Friends section is public by default. To change its audience, go to Audience and visibility → How people find and contact you → Who can see your friends list? Choose the narrowest audience that fits your needs. Menu wording may differ by app version or region. Facebook Help explains friends-list audience settings.

Restricting your own friends list does not conceal every friendship connection. Facebook notes that other people’s settings can still expose their connections, and people may see mutual friends. This control affects display of your friends list on your profile, not the visibility of a Marketplace listing.
Audit posts, profile details, tags, and blocking controls
Facebook groups its privacy options under Audience and visibility. Review the controls for profile details, posts, followers and public content, profile and tagging, and blocking. The exact choices available can depend on your profile type. Facebook’s privacy settings overview describes these areas.

Inspect the listing before you publish
Read the draft as if it were public. Check photos for personal details in the background, and remove information from the description that is not needed to sell the item. Re-read the pickup location and any other transaction details before you post. Meta’s 2026 announcement says listing information, including description, pickup location, and price, may be used in AI auto-replies when a seller enables them.
- Review every photo for addresses, documents, screens, faces, or other details you did not intend to share.
- Remove unnecessary personal information from the description.
- Confirm the price and pickup or handoff details are appropriate to disclose.
- If using an optional automated reply feature, read its on-screen explanation and consider the listing information it may use.
Can you hide a Marketplace listing from friends?
Do not rely on a universal hide-from-friends guarantee. The official sources cited here do not establish whether a current hide-from-friends control is available to every seller, whether it applies to every listing type, or how it interacts with Marketplace search and sharing to groups.

If your current listing flow shows a friend-hiding option, read its explanation carefully, note which audience or surfaces it says it covers, and check the published listing’s visible audience. An option in one account or listing flow is not evidence that every friend is excluded.
