It defaults to 32 characters, lets you choose uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special symbols, and includes a copy control. F-Secure says passwords made with the tool are generated locally and are not stored or sent anywhere.
What F-Secure launched
F-Secure launched the online generator on March 2, 2022, as a free tool for quickly creating strong, unique passwords. The tool remains available on F-Secure’s website and works in a browser, so you do not need to install an application.
The generator is intended for individual accounts that need a different password for every service. It creates a random string rather than suggesting a word, name or other information that could be associated with you.
How to generate a password with F-Secure
- Open F-Secure’s password-generator page.
- Choose whether to include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special symbols.
- Move the length slider to the size you need. The page starts at 32 characters and shows shorter examples such as 12, 16 and 20 characters.
- Select Generate new to create a new random password.
- Use the copy control to place the result on your clipboard, then save it in your password manager and use it for only one account.
Turning off character groups reduces the set of possible combinations. Unless a particular website rejects a character type, leaving all four groups enabled and using a long result gives you the strongest general-purpose choice.

Does F-Secure store the passwords?
F-Secure states that it does not store or send passwords created with the tool: “All passwords are generated in your browser only.” On that description, generation takes place on the device running the browser rather than on F-Secure’s servers.
That privacy statement applies to passwords generated by this page. It does not automatically describe how a separate password-manager account handles data, so review the terms for any storage service you choose.
How long should a generated password be?
F-Secure recommends passwords of roughly 16–32 characters. Its generator’s 32-character default fits the upper end of that guidance. Use the longest length accepted by the service, especially for an account that protects financial, work or personal data.

A long password is not automatically strong if it is predictable. Fennel Aurora, F-Secure’s Product Management Community Lead, emphasizes that the important word is “random.” A password based on a familiar phrase, personal detail or repeated pattern gives an attacker useful guesses.
F-Secure has illustrated the difference with an estimate of “more than a million years to crack” for five random words selected from a 100,000-word dictionary. That is F-Secure’s example under its stated assumptions, not a universal cracking-time guarantee. Hardware, attack methods, account protections and the way a password is converted into a stored hash all affect real-world risk.

Use a password manager with the generator
Random 16–32-character passwords are difficult to memorize. F-Secure therefore recommends using a password manager to store them, autofill them and keep a unique value for every account. A manager also reduces the temptation to copy the same password across multiple services.
F-Secure’s integrated option
F-Secure’s Password Manager/ID Protection products are the company’s follow-on option for storing generated passwords, autofilling login forms and receiving breach notifications. F-Secure also promotes these features within its Total subscription. Any trial length, price or plan availability can change, so check the current product page before subscribing.
If you already use another manager
You do not need F-Secure’s manager to use the free generator. Copy each result directly into the manager you already trust, confirm that the entry is saved, and avoid leaving the password in notes, email or a browser tab longer than necessary.

Practical checks before saving a password
- Confirm the generated value meets the website’s length and character requirements.
- Give the password its own entry in your manager; do not append it to an existing login.
- Replace any older password reused on another service.
- Enable multi-factor authentication when the account offers it.
- After copying, clear exposed clipboard contents if your operating system or clipboard manager keeps history.
