An exposed server tied by threat-intelligence firm ThreatMon to an intrusion involving a Viva Aerobus-linked environment contained credential-access tools, SQL Server connection data and material prepared for possible follow-on access. The evidence described by ThreatMon supports credential harvesting and lateral-movement preparation; it does not confirm that attackers reached additional systems or stole passenger, payment or other sensitive business data.

What the exposed server revealed

ThreatMon says its threat-intelligence team found an attacker-controlled staging and loot server at 151.243.232.123. The server reportedly lacked authentication or effective access controls and held both tools and collected material. ThreatMon dates the related activity to September 25–29, 2026, and published its incident analysis on October 1, 2026.

The incident is described as Viva Aerobus-linked, not as a scope confirmed by the airline. ThreatMon and secondary coverage by GBHackers are the sources for the linkage; the reporting available here does not establish a first-party Viva Aerobus statement or regulator confirmation of the incident’s scope.

How the reported SQL Server intrusion worked

The reported execution path centered on Microsoft SQL Server’s xp_cmdshell, an extended stored procedure that can run operating-system commands when enabled. ThreatMon says the victim-side SQL Server retrieved a payload from the staging server at 16:20 on September 25. Recovered tools were designed to issue Windows commands and Base64-encoded PowerShell through an MSSQL session.

  • Simplified Management and Deployment: Features a user-friendly management console that provides comprehensive network automation and visibility, coupled with Zero Touch Integration with Fortinet’s Security Fabric for easy deployment.

That describes a route from SQL Server into operating-system command execution; it does not, on its own, show that every command ran successfully or that the attackers gained control of other machines.

What the toolkit was designed to do

ThreatMon reported 17 named post-exploitation tools and artifacts, and mapped eight MITRE ATT&CK techniques for this incident. The reported toolkit included:

  • chrome_dump.ps1, cred_dump.ps1 and cred_enum.ps1 for credential discovery or extraction.
  • sqlspray.ps1 and mssqltest.ps1 for testing SQL credentials.
  • exfil.py and upload.py for file transfer.

The analysis also describes Mimikatz artifacts, targeting of Windows Credential Manager and Vault, browser credential access, and attempts to recover material protected by Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI). These findings indicate credential access and testing activity. A tool’s presence or intended function is not proof that the associated action succeeded, and file-transfer tools do not prove that sensitive data was exfiltrated.

Why SSMS connection history matters

ThreatMon says recovered SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) user-settings data contained previously used server references, database usernames and DPAPI-protected saved-password material. Even without a usable password, connection history and usernames can help an intruder identify systems and accounts to investigate next.

The report also describes collection of source-code and configuration material referencing SQL, OAuth, email, SFTP, payment and reporting integrations. ThreatMon says sensitive values were withheld. The presence of references to these services is not evidence that their accounts were accessed or that payment or passenger records were taken.

The attacker’s server was exposed to others

ThreatMon’s timeline says an unrelated external host began enumerating the exposed server and loot directories at 16:21–16:23 on September 25, shortly after the victim-side payload retrieval. Other hosts accessed tools or loot at 18:04–18:05. This creates a second exposure: material placed on the attacker’s unauthenticated server may have been visible to people other than the original operator.

The timeline establishes reported access by unrelated internet hosts; it does not identify those parties or show what they did with any material they could view.

What is confirmed—and what is not

Evidence described by ThreatMon What it supports What it does not establish
MSSQL execution path using xp_cmdshell and a payload retrieval SQL Server was reportedly used as a route to run operating-system commands. Successful access to other systems or a complete account of command execution.
Credential-access tools and artifacts, plus SSMS metadata Credential discovery, collection and testing were part of the reported activity. That every credential was recovered, was valid, or was used successfully.
Tools for file transfer and collected source/configuration material The operator had tools and material relevant to possible further access and transfer. Confirmed theft of passenger, payment or equivalent business data.
Unrelated hosts accessed the exposed staging server Attacker-side material may have been exposed beyond the original operator. The identities of those hosts or whether they copied or reused material.

ThreatMon’s own wording draws the key boundary: “The available evidence supports these stages through credential harvesting and lateral-movement preparation. It does not confirm successful access to additional systems.” The reported evidence therefore does not justify calling this a confirmed passenger-data breach or a confirmed wider compromise.

For an organization investigating similar activity, the most useful response steps are to:

  1. Search historical network telemetry for 151.243.232.123, and endpoint telemetry for the listed hashes and C:WindowsTempartex.
  2. Review SQL Server and endpoint logs for unexpected xp_cmdshell use, especially activity followed by cmd.exe, PowerShell, encoded commands or unusual file operations under the SQL Server service account.
  3. Disable xp_cmdshell where it is not required, review the SQL Server service account’s privileges, and assess unexpected outbound connections.
  4. Handle SSMS saved connections, connection history, usernames and protected saved-password material as sensitive credential-adjacent information. Determine which accounts and systems the metadata identifies.
  5. Rotate credentials or secrets known to have reached exposed attacker infrastructure, and check whether they were reused elsewhere.
