This was a historical ceremony, not a current company announcement.
What Equinix celebrated on August 11, 2010
Equinix’s announcement that day said it was celebrating 10 years since its IPO and NASDAQ listing. Contemporary coverage by Data Center Knowledge also described the opening-bell event at NASDAQ MarketSite in New York.
The anniversary ceremony date and the IPO milestones are distinct. Equinix’s 2004 annual report says its IPO registration statement became effective on August 10, 2000, and that common stock began trading in August 2000 under the symbol EQIX; it does not specify the first trading day. The report is available in the company’s 2004 Form 10-K.
What happened at the ceremony
Steve Smith, Equinix’s president and CEO at the time, rang the NASDAQ opening bell. In the company’s August 11, 2010 release, Smith reflected on the company’s first decade: “The last 10 years have been characterized by our ability to capitalize on emerging trends and enable our customers to seize new opportunities.”

He added: “Equinix has evolved considerably since our IPO, but the same characteristics that drove us in the beginning – creativity, innovation, commitment to our customers – continue to push us to new heights today.”

The 2010 release characterized Equinix as a provider of global data-center services. It described a platform of energy-efficient International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, together with network, interconnection, and exchange services. Those are descriptions of the company at the time, not current specifications.

Equinix said it had achieved 30 consecutive quarters of growth and expected more than $1 billion in annual revenue for 2010. The revenue figure was a forecast in the release, not a reported actual result. The company linked demand for its services to developing technology and business needs, including cloud and IT services, electronic trading, online video, and mobile data.
