The headline “Sweden’s EQT to Purchase Controlling Stake in EdgeConneX” refers to an August 2020 announcement, not a new 2026 deal. EQT Infrastructure IV agreed to acquire EdgeConneX from an investor group led by Providence Equity Partners, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2020. EQT did not disclose a percentage in its announcement; contemporaneous coverage by Data Center Knowledge reported that Infrastructure IV was expected to control 85% after completion.

What EQT announced in August 2020

On August 19, 2020, EQT Infrastructure said its Infrastructure IV fund had agreed to acquire EdgeConneX from an investor group led by Providence Equity Partners. EQT expected the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of 2020, but its announcement did not specify the stake’s percentage. EQT’s announcement describes the agreement and the parties.

The frequently cited 85% figure comes from Data Center Knowledge’s contemporaneous report, which said Infrastructure IV was expected to control an 85% stake after completion. It is not a percentage published in EQT’s own release, so it should be attributed to that news report rather than treated as EQT’s official deal figure.

What EdgeConneX does

EQT described EdgeConneX as a data-center developer and operator serving cloud, content, network, and other service providers. Its facilities included both larger, purpose-built data centers and edge facilities located nearer to consumer and enterprise users, supporting workloads for which latency can matter.

EQT’s July 17, 2026 half-year report says its AI Infrastructure strategy was seeded by EdgeConneX through acquisition of a minority stake from Infrastructure IV and V. It also lists minority-stake sales in EdgeConneX among fund exit activity. The report does not establish the current percentage held by EQT’s funds, Sixth Street, or any other investor. Accordingly, the 85% report from 2020 should not be presented as a current ownership figure.
