To use Magic Chests with crafting stations in Enshrouded, put recipe materials in a Magic Chest in your base, then open a recipe at the station and craft as usual. Recipe-driven stations can draw from Magic Chest inventory associated with that base, so you do not have to carry every ingredient between storage and each bench. Ordinary chests do not supply recipe ingredients.
What do Magic Chests do for crafting?
A Magic Chest acts as shared ingredient storage for crafting recipes in its player base. When you select a recipe at a workbench, survivor station, production station, or another recipe-driven interface, the recipe can use materials stored in the base’s Magic Chests. Instead of treating each bench as an isolated inventory, you can keep recipe supplies in shared storage and use them through the station’s normal crafting interface.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The important distinction is the chest type, not which room contains the station or whether the station belongs to a survivor. An ordinary storage chest remains useful for manual storage, but its contents are not visible to crafting recipes. If a recipe appears to have none of an ingredient, check whether that ingredient is in an ordinary chest rather than a Magic Chest.
This distinction also helps explain why having a large amount of a resource somewhere in your base may not solve a missing-material warning. The recipe does not treat every container as one combined inventory. It checks Magic Chest storage associated with the base. Moving items into the right kind of chest is the essential step; rearranging a bench or carrying the item around the room is not a substitute for that.

Magic Chests therefore address a specific storage problem: they connect stored materials to crafting recipes. They do not make ordinary chests recipe-visible, and they do not remove the need to gather or store the ingredients. They let you keep materials in storage while interacting with a recipe-driven station elsewhere in the same base.
How do I set up a Magic Chest?
Unlock the chest, place it in your base, and stock it with the materials you want available to recipes. Keen Games’ Enshrouded 1.0 release notes say ordinary storage chests can be converted to Magic Chests and upgraded in place without first emptying them or picking them up as a crafting resource. That gives you two practical routes: make a Magic Chest for a new storage area, or convert an existing chest when you reorganize.

Its recipe is tied to retrieving the Blacksmith in the Find The Sleeping Survivor quest. The 1.0 release notes also say regular 24-slot storage chests and Magic Chests can be crafted earlier in progression, so progression timing may differ from older guides. If the recipe is not where you expect it, check your progression and crafting menu rather than assuming the current unlock matches an older guide.
- Craft a chest or convert an existing one. Place the Magic Chest in the player base where you keep crafting supplies. If you are reorganizing storage, use the in-place conversion or upgrade option where available to keep the stored contents in the chest. This is especially useful when you already have a stocked ordinary chest: the 1.0 notes describe a conversion path that avoids emptying it and using it as a crafting resource first.
- Move recipe materials into Magic Chest storage. Stock it with the resources you expect to use at stations. Materials left in ordinary chests will not count toward recipes. You can use one chest for many kinds of materials or divide supplies among several Magic Chests; the shared recipe access comes from the Magic Chest storage, not from a particular category layout.
- Open the crafting station and choose a recipe. Use the station’s normal recipe interface. The recipe checks the associated Magic Chest inventory, so there is no separate ingredient-carrying step. Selecting the recipe is still the normal way to begin crafting; a Magic Chest is storage access, not a replacement for the station interface.
- Check the recipe again after restocking. If the recipe showed no ingredients before you moved the materials, return to its list or reopen the station interface after the transfer. This gives you a straightforward way to confirm that the materials are now in Magic Chest storage and available to the recipe.
If you are starting fresh, it can be sensible to make a small shared storage area near the rest of your crafting supplies. If you already have a storage room, conversion and in-place upgrades may let you change its role without emptying every chest first. In either case, make sure the chest you are stocking is a Magic Chest rather than assuming that any nearby storage container can feed recipes.
How do Magic Chests work across different stations?
For recipe-driven crafting, the same storage rule applies across station types: materials in Magic Chests in the base are available to recipes, while ordinary chest contents are not. You can organize shared storage in one area and then use recipes at different stations around that base. The key is to choose the recipe at the appropriate station and ensure its materials are stored in Magic Chests.
This is the answer to the common question of whether Magic Chests work across the whole base: the cited guidance establishes base-wide recipe access, rather than requiring a separate chest beside each station. It does not, however, establish a universal distance measurement for every station. Keep the distinction in mind: shared access across the base is supported, but a single meter limit for all circumstances is not.
Workbenches and survivor stations
Open the station or survivor’s recipe list, select the item you want to make, and let the recipe check the base’s Magic Chest materials. There is no need to move ingredients to the station by hand if they are already in an eligible Magic Chest. A separate pile of materials in an ordinary chest will not count, even if that chest is close to the workbench.

For a practical check, choose a recipe you want to make and look at its ingredient requirements. If an ingredient appears unavailable, first verify where it is stored. If you discover that it is in an ordinary chest, move it to a Magic Chest, then check the recipe again. This keeps troubleshooting focused on the actual distinction that controls recipe access.
Production stations
Production stations may let you queue jobs. Make sure the required inputs are in Magic Chests before you start a job; the cited guidance establishes that recipe materials can be drawn from Magic Chest storage, but does not specify every station’s queue behavior or timing. Do not assume that every queued job pulls ingredients continuously or handles inputs in exactly the same way.
If a production recipe is unavailable, use the same first check as you would at a workbench: confirm that each required material is in Magic Chest storage rather than an ordinary chest. Then review the station’s recipe list and its own job controls. Keeping supplies in Magic Chests makes them available to recipes, but the exact queue interface and timing are station-specific details that should not be generalized without confirmation.
Building and construction materials
The Forging The Path update added direct retrieval of construction materials from Magic Chests and a material catalog. This lets you select construction materials without first carrying an example item in your backpack. That is a related but distinct convenience: recipe crafting uses the station’s recipe interface, while construction-material selection uses the material catalog.
If a building material is not available through the catalog, check whether it is stored in a Magic Chest. Carrying an example block is no longer required for selecting construction materials through this feature, but the update does not mean that ordinary chest contents become visible or that all building materials are supplied from every kind of storage.
How should I organize Magic Chest storage?
Separate chests by broad material category so it is easier to restock and identify where supplies belong. The 1.0 release notes say chests can be named, which makes a category-based layout easier to recognize. Naming is an organizational aid rather than a recipe requirement: recipes use eligible Magic Chest inventory regardless of the label you give a chest.

This is an organizational approach, not a game requirement. The key is to place materials meant for recipe access in Magic Chests; naming and grouping help you manage restocking but do not change which items recipes can see. If you prefer fewer containers, a broader grouping can work too. If you prefer to find a particular kind of ingredient quickly, narrower categories can make manual restocking easier.
When comparing storage setups, consider what problem each feature solves. Ordinary chests are manual storage and do not supply recipes. Magic Chests provide recipe visibility. The Small Magic Chest is tied to a progression milestone, while the 1.0 notes describe earlier crafting options for regular 24-slot storage chests and Magic Chests. The notes also support converting and upgrading chests in place. Naming and category separation help with organization, Quick Stack can deposit matching backpack items, and the material catalog supports direct retrieval for construction. These are different advantages, so a tidy layout should combine the features you actually use rather than relying on one feature to do all the work.

How do I use Quick Stack with Magic Chests?
The Quick Stack Station is a deposit tool: it moves eligible items from your backpack into nearby Magic Chests. It is useful after gathering or returning from an expedition, but it is separate from the recipe system that lets crafting stations use stored materials. You use Quick Stack to put matching items away; you use the station’s recipe interface to craft from the shared storage.
The Forging The Path update added a per-chest setting to allow or deny automatic deposits from the Quick Stack Station. Check that setting if an expected chest is not receiving items. Keen Games’ update notes state that Magic Chests can be toggled to accept or deny automatic depositing from Quick Stack. The toggle means that you can prevent a particular chest from accepting deposits, which may help keep its contents organized.
Quick Stack deposits matching stackable items into nearby Magic Chests. It is not described as emptying every backpack slot or choosing a chest category according to your own naming scheme. If an item stays in your backpack, check whether a nearby Magic Chest contains a matching stack and whether automatic depositing is allowed for that chest. Also keep in mind that proximity here refers to the nearby-chest deposit function; it does not define the distance at which crafting recipes can see Magic Chests across the base.
A simple return-from-expedition routine is to use Quick Stack to deposit matching stackable supplies, check any items that remain, and manually place those where you want them. Then visit the station and select the recipe as usual. This separates two easily confused jobs: Quick Stack helps move items into storage, while Magic Chest recipe access makes eligible stored materials available to crafting.

Why can’t a crafting station see my materials?
Start by checking storage type. A recipe that shows zero ingredients may be reading Magic Chest inventory correctly while the materials remain in an ordinary chest. In that case, having the resource in the base is not enough: move it into Magic Chest storage before expecting the recipe to use it.
- The recipe shows none of a material: move the material from an ordinary chest into a Magic Chest, then reopen the station interface and check the recipe again. If it is already in a Magic Chest, verify that you are checking the intended recipe and base.
- Quick Stack leaves items behind: check whether the destination Magic Chest already contains a matching stack and whether that chest allows automatic deposits. Quick Stack is a nearby-chest deposit tool for matching stackable items, not a general-purpose transfer of every item.
- You have not unlocked a Magic Chest: progress through Find The Sleeping Survivor and retrieve the Blacksmith, then check the crafting menu for the Small Magic Chest. The 1.0 release notes describe earlier chest crafting options, so older progression advice may not reflect current timing.
- You are rebuilding a storage area: use the in-place conversion or upgrade option where possible; Keen Games’ 1.0 notes say contents need not be emptied first. This avoids treating a stocked ordinary chest as if it must be dismantled before conversion.
- You are asking about distance: base-wide recipe access is established, but there is no universal meter value stated for every crafting station. Avoid treating the nearby radius used by Quick Stack as the recipe-access limit.
Work through these checks in order rather than moving a station or rebuilding storage immediately. First verify the chest type, then verify the materials are actually in Magic Chest storage, and then reopen the recipe interface. If the problem concerns Quick Stack rather than crafting, check the matching-stack condition and the chest’s allow-or-deny setting instead.
How far can a station be from a Magic Chest?
The guidance establishes recipe access from Magic Chests associated with the same player base, but it does not provide a universal distance measurement that applies to every station. Do not rely on a specific meter limit; if materials are not available, first verify that they are in a Magic Chest and that the station is operating in the intended base.
Also separate this question from Quick Stack’s behavior. Quick Stack deposits items into nearby Magic Chests, while crafting recipes draw from Magic Chest inventory associated with the base. The word “nearby” in the deposit description is not evidence of a universal crafting radius. If you need to troubleshoot access, confirm storage type and base association instead of applying a distance figure that has not been established for your station.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Magic Chests work across the whole base?
Recipe-driven stations can draw materials from Magic Chests associated with the same player base, so the guidance does not require a separate chest beside every station. It does not establish a universal meter limit for every station, so avoid treating one distance figure as a rule for all crafting.
Why can’t my crafting station see materials in a chest?
Check whether the items are in an ordinary chest. Ordinary chest contents are not visible to crafting recipes; move the materials into a Magic Chest and check the recipe again.

Do production stations automatically keep a job supplied from Magic Chests?
The Forging The Path update information confirms that recipe materials can come from Magic Chest inventory, but does not detail whether every queued production job draws inputs continuously. To avoid a stalled or unavailable job, make sure its required inputs are in Magic Chests before starting it.
