Short answer: Embedly’s API starts at $119 per month and includes 10,000 Embed URLs plus 10,000 Extract URLs. Its published overage for either service is $9.50 per 10,000 URLs, or $0.00095 per additional URL. Iframely, LinkPreview and Microlink can be cheaper at the subscription level or fit different workloads, but none can be ranked as universally cheaper per URL from their published units alone. Iframely bills hourly URL activity, LinkPreview does not publish a monthly request allowance for its commercial plan, and Microlink’s current paid price is not established here.
What “lower per-URL pricing” actually means
A fair comparison requires more than placing monthly prices in a column. First identify the operation you need: a rich embed, metadata, article extraction, image processing or simply a preview card. Then normalize four billing details:
- the included monthly allowance;
- the billable unit (request, URL, image or hour of activity);
- overage pricing and rate limits; and
- commercial-use, domain and caching rules.
Embedly states in its pricing FAQ, “Each URL sent to the Embed API through an HTTP request counts as one unit of monthly usage.” Its Extract API uses the same one-request/one-unit principle. That makes Embedly relatively straightforward to model, but only if your alternatives meter usage the same way.
Embedly’s current baseline
Embedly’s currently listed API price, checked September 30, 2026, is $119 per month. The plan includes 10,000 Embed URLs, 10,000 Extract URLs and 25,000 Display images. Additional Embed or Extract usage is $9.50 per 10,000 URLs ($0.00095 each). Display overage is $4 per 10,000 images ($0.0004 each).
#1 Best Overall
| Embedly operation | Included at the listed $119/month API price | Published overage |
|---|---|---|
| Embed | 10,000 URLs | $9.50 per 10,000 URLs ($0.00095 each) |
| Extract | 10,000 URLs | $9.50 per 10,000 URLs ($0.00095 each) |
| Display | 25,000 images | $4 per 10,000 images ($0.0004 each) |
Embed creates responsive embeds, Extract returns article text, images and structured metadata, and Display resizes, crops and optimizes images. Cards is a more limited browser-based publishing option. A service that appears cheaper for previews may not replace those three capabilities.
Best alternatives by use case
LinkPreview: lowest published commercial entry price
LinkPreview lists a $25-per-month Pro plan marked for commercial use and a limit of 1,000 requests per hour. That is a lower entry subscription than Embedly’s $119 API plan. However, its pricing page does not state a monthly included-request total or a per-request overage rate, so $25 cannot be converted into a defensible per-URL price.
LinkPreview also warns that per-domain limits may apply, including a maximum of one request per second per unique domain. Ask for the monthly quota, overage schedule, supported domains and commercial terms before moving a high-volume workload.
Iframely: useful when URL activity persists over time
Iframely lists these plans, checked September 30, 2026:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Plan | Monthly price | Listed allowance | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $0 | 2,000 hits/month | Commercial use is limited to one domain according to the pricing page |
| Business | $49 | 25,000 hits/month | Overage varies by tier and volume |
| Editorial | $149 | 100,000 hits/month | Overage varies by tier and volume |
| Enterprise | $399 | 500,000 hits/month | Overage varies by tier and volume |
An Iframely hit is one hour of activity for a specific URL. An actively displayed URL can therefore count once per active hour, potentially up to 24 hits in a day. A page that remains visible all day is not equivalent to one Embedly request. Estimate hits from display duration and refresh behavior, not only from the number of links submitted.
Iframely returns rich embed HTML, URL metadata and available media variants, and can prepare a summary card when rich media is unavailable. Its documentation reports a QA database covering more than 1,900 domains; that is a vendor-reported figure and can change.
Microlink: relevant for programmable metadata workflows
Microlink’s official documentation identifies metadata(url) as its link-preview and metadata operation. Its skill documentation describes a free endpoint with a soft limit of 25 requests and says a keyed Pro quota starts at 14,000 requests. The reviewed official pages do not establish the current paid plan price, so Microlink cannot be placed in a reliable paid per-URL ranking.
Microlink’s high-volume material describes configurable caching and says repeated cached requests do not count toward quota. Confirm the exact cache behavior and whether it applies to your plan before using that assumption in a cost model.
Comparison table: what is—and is not—proven cheaper
| Service | Published entry price | Published usage unit | Can a lower per-URL cost be proved? | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Embedly | $119/month | One HTTP URL request = one unit; Extract follows the same rule | Yes: $0.00095 per additional Embed or Extract URL after included quota | Combined embeds, extraction and image processing |
| LinkPreview | $25/month Pro (commercial) | Requests per hour are listed; monthly allowance is not | No; allowance and overage are not published | Modest commercial preview traffic |
| Iframely | $0 Starter; $49 Business | One hit equals one hour of activity for a URL | No direct one-to-one comparison with Embedly requests | Rich embeds with known display activity |
| Microlink | Paid price not established | Requests; cached behavior may exclude repeats | No paid price ranking is supportable | Configurable metadata processing |
How to calculate your real monthly cost
Step 1: separate operations
Count Embed, Extract and Display usage independently. One page that creates an embed, extracts article text and requests a thumbnail can consume three different allowances. Do not compare an Embedly Extract workload with a preview-only plan unless the output is equivalent.
Step 2: model Embedly’s included quota and overage
For either Embed or Extract, subtract 10,000 included URLs from monthly requests. Multiply the remainder by $0.00095. For example, 30,000 Embed requests produce 20,000 overage requests, costing $19 beyond the $119 subscription, for a listed total of $138 before taxes or other charges. Display usage uses its separate 25,000-image allowance and $0.0004 overage rate.
Rank #3
Step 3: model activity-based services by behavior
For Iframely, estimate how many distinct URLs are displayed, how long each remains active and how often pages refresh. A thousand URLs displayed for six hours could approach 6,000 hits, even though only 1,000 URLs were submitted. For LinkPreview, obtain the missing monthly allowance and overage terms. For Microlink, verify the paid price, key quota and cache eligibility.
Step 4: include operational limits
- Apply LinkPreview’s stated per-domain request limit to burst traffic.
- Check Iframely’s domain licensing before serving multiple commercial sites.
- Confirm whether Microlink cache hits remain excluded under your specific plan.
- Price failed requests, retries and refreshes according to each vendor’s billing definition.
Which alternative should you investigate first?
Choose LinkPreview for a small commercial preview service
Its $25 Pro subscription is the lowest clearly stated commercial entry price among these candidates. Treat it as a lead, not proof of lower unit economics, until the vendor supplies monthly quota, overage and coverage details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose Iframely for rich media shown to users
Its free and $49 tiers may fit a site whose URL activity is modest and predictable. Build the estimate around active hours, and verify the one-domain commercial restriction on Starter.
Choose Microlink for configurable metadata processing
Its documented metadata operation and cache-oriented workflow are relevant when you control processing logic. Obtain current paid pricing before approving a budget.
Stay with Embedly when bundled capabilities matter
If you need responsive embeds, article extraction and image transformation together, compare an equivalent bundle. A lower preview subscription can become more expensive after adding separate extraction, image or transformation services.

Or use ScreenshotNeo when the output you need is a screenshot
ScreenshotNeo is not a link-preview metadata replacement; it is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is the alternative to try first when your actual requirement is a clean visual capture rather than embed HTML or article fields. Before capture, it accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and each response reports the result in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

“The cheaper plan became more expensive.”
Check whether you compared a subscription price with an allowance measured in a different unit. Convert Iframely hours, LinkPreview’s hourly limit and Embedly requests into the same expected workload before deciding.
“Our request count is unexpectedly high.”
Look for browser refreshes, client retries, polling and image requests. Embedly counts each URL sent through an HTTP request; activity-based services can count repeated hours while a page remains visible.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →“Commercial deployment is blocked.”
Review domain terms. Iframely’s Starter description limits commercial use to one domain, while LinkPreview labels Pro commercial. Obtain written clarification for multi-domain or customer-facing deployments.
Best Value
“Caching did not reduce the bill.”
Verify cache keys, TTL and plan eligibility. Microlink describes quota-exempt repeated cached requests, but exact behavior must be confirmed for the key and plan you use.
“The output is missing information.”
Confirm that the product supplies the required artifact: rich embed HTML, metadata, article text, image transformation or a screenshot. Do not substitute a preview response for extraction without testing representative URLs.
Decision checklist
- Write down monthly distinct URLs, refreshes and display hours.
- Mark each required output: embed, metadata, article extraction, image or screenshot.
- Record included quota, metering unit, overage, rate limits and cache treatment.
- Verify commercial domains and customer-facing rights.
- Request missing LinkPreview and Microlink pricing details before forecasting savings.
- Recalculate after measuring retries, refreshes and failed pages in production.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a lower monthly subscription always mean a lower per-URL price?
No. A monthly price is meaningful only alongside the included allowance and the vendor’s definition of a billable unit.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can Iframely’s hits be converted directly into Embedly URLs?
No. Iframely’s hit represents an hour of activity for a URL, while Embedly counts an HTTP URL request.
Is ScreenshotNeo an Embedly-compatible metadata API?
No. ScreenshotNeo is for visual website captures and PDFs; use a metadata or embed service when you need structured preview data.
The Bottom Line
Embedly has the clearest published per-URL economics: $0.00095 for each additional Embed or Extract URL after its included quota. LinkPreview has the lowest stated commercial entry price, Iframely may fit hourly rich-embed activity, and Microlink remains worth investigating for configurable metadata workflows—but published evidence does not prove either is cheaper per URL in every workload.
