For the DMV, rain is expected to taper off Saturday morning, giving way to a mostly cloudy, mild day with a refreshing fall feel. That break does not mean a fully dry weekend: scattered showers could return late Saturday night through early Sunday afternoon, with cooler weather following.
This short-range outlook is for the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area (the DMV), and reflects the forecast published by Jeff Vorick on October 3, 2026. Conditions and timing can change as the weekend progresses.
Saturday: rain eases, but clouds linger
Overnight showers brought light to occasionally moderate rain to the Metro. The rain is expected to gradually wind down through Saturday morning. The rest of the day should remain mainly cloudy and mild; some clearing is possible closer to the Pennsylvania state line. North winds are expected to make it feel more like fall.
Late Saturday into Sunday: another chance of showers
Scattered rain may redevelop late Saturday night and continue into early Sunday afternoon. The forecast does not call for a washout, but the Saturday-morning improvement should not be taken as a promise of dry weather through Sunday. Sunday is expected to be cooler, with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Monday and beyond: a cooler stretch, then a gradual warm-up
A reinforcing cold front is forecast to reach the DMV by Monday morning. Monday should be mild and breezy at times, with highs in the 70s. Afterward, the forecast calls for cooler conditions: morning lows in the 40s across the Metro and suburbs, with daytime highs in the 60s.
If skies are clear and winds are light, the first widespread frost of the season is possible in areas along and west of I-81. Frost is a conditional possibility, not a certainty. Temperatures are forecast to gradually recover toward the end of the week, with highs returning to the 70s.
