As of October 3, 2026, Dontayvion Wicks is expected to be Philadelphia’s top wide receiver against the Rams because DeVonta Smith has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. That is a temporary, game-specific role—not evidence that Wicks has become the Eagles’ permanent WR1.
Why Wicks is expected to lead the Eagles’ receivers
NFL.com reported on October 2 that Smith was ruled out for Philadelphia’s Week 4 game and that Wicks would become the team’s No. 1 receiver in Smith’s absence. The Eagles’ initial 2026 roster lists Wicks as a receiver, but does not rank him in the depth chart; the expected lead role comes from Smith’s unavailability. NFL.com’s report on Smith’s status and Wicks’ role explains the distinction.
Wicks is an Eagle, not a Packer: Green Bay announced his trade to Philadelphia on April 13, 2026. The Eagles’ initial 53-man roster lists him among the team’s wide receivers. Green Bay’s announcement records his Packers production through the 2025 season as 108 receptions, 1,328 yards, 12.3 yards per catch and 11 touchdowns; those are career figures from his time in Green Bay, not his Eagles totals. Green Bay’s trade announcement provides that background.
Wicks’ production through three games
Through Philadelphia’s first three games of the 2026 season, Wicks had nine receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown, averaging 19.9 yards per catch, according to NFL.com’s 2026 statistics splits. That is a small sample, so the yards-per-catch figure describes his early production but cannot, by itself, predict what he will produce in this game. The available statistics excerpt does not establish his target total or catch rate.

Other Eagles pass-catchers unavailable
The receiving situation was especially thin in the pregame reports. NFL.com said Hollywood Brown remained sidelined, while tight end Dallas Goedert, who was dealing with a knee issue, remained out for a second consecutive game. Smith was separately ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Rams’ Week 4 injury report also listed Smith and Goedert among Philadelphia’s players ruled out; NFL.com is the source for Brown’s status.
What the role means—and does not mean
Smith’s absence and the other reported absences make Wicks’ opportunity meaningful: he is expected to be Philadelphia’s top wideout for this matchup. But the cited reports do not provide a target projection, expected snap share or route-by-route plan, and an elevated role does not guarantee a particular number of catches, yards or fantasy points.

For fantasy decisions, treat the news as evidence of opportunity rather than a points forecast. The available reporting does not compare Wicks with other starting options or quantify the Rams matchup, so it cannot settle whether he is the best start in a particular league or scoring format.
