Dyson says an issue in one production batch of CameraJet jet tubes created a risk of water seepage and affected a small number of early products. On 30 September 2026, the company said it had isolated impacted products and was back in full production and shipping. Customer reports described failures—including some said to happen almost immediately—but neither those accounts nor Dyson’s statement establish that CameraJet typically breaks in 30 seconds or reveal an overall failure rate.
What happened to the Dyson CameraJet?
Dyson launched its $499 US CameraJet electric toothbrush on 1 September 2026. In the weeks that followed, customers reported malfunctions, and retailers in some markets appeared to stop selling it. T3 reported sales changes in France on 11 September and in the US, UK and Singapore on 15 September, citing earlier reporting; those were market observations, not an official notice of a worldwide withdrawal. T3’s 28 September report also described complaints including misfiring jets, breakages and failures when wet.

Dyson’s 30 September update attributed the early problem to a process issue in one production batch of jet tubes. The company said the issue created the potential for water seepage, affecting the performance of a small number of products. It said it isolated impacted products, described the resulting out-of-stock position as temporary, and reported that production and shipping were under way.
What “breaks in 30 seconds” does—and does not—mean
The 30-second wording reflects anecdotal customer-failure reports, not a measured typical lifespan or a verified failure rate. Available reporting does not establish what share of units failed, how many products were isolated, or whether every reported malfunction had the same cause as the jet-tube issue Dyson identified.

Was the CameraJet permanently pulled from sale?
The evidence supports a temporary stock disruption associated with Dyson’s decision to isolate affected products; it does not establish a permanent global withdrawal or recall. Dyson said it was shipping again on 30 September. Availability can differ by country, retailer and date, so check the local Dyson store or retailer for current stock rather than assuming the product is either universally available or permanently discontinued.
What is the CameraJet?
CameraJet is an electric toothbrush that pairs a brush head with a camera-assisted mouthrinse jet. Dyson says its 100,000-pixel macro camera and machine-learning system, called Gap Optical Targeting, analyze 28 live images per second to identify and track interdental gaps, then trigger a targeted jet within 100 milliseconds. These are Dyson’s product specifications and performance claims; the sources available here do not establish independent clinical efficacy.

- Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum
Dyson says the system has a 12.5 ml mouthrinse tank, a dock that refills the brush at the press of a button, a travel case, RFID-tagged brush heads and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity. The MyDyson app offers features including guided cleaning and coverage feedback. Dyson also says the camera operates only during live view or auto-jetting and that images are not recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.
Launch materials described a package with a charging dock, travel case, toothpaste and mouthrinse. Dyson says its toothpaste is non-foaming and its rinse is low-foaming for use with the camera and jet system; it also describes a sensitive brush-head option. Package contents can vary by market or retailer, so confirm what is included before buying.

What did the hands-on review find?
In a TechRadar review published on 1 September 2026, the reviewer said they used CameraJet for a week before launch. They found it bulky compared with an ordinary electric toothbrush and reported splashing during auto-jetting when they did not keep their mouth closed. The reviewer was positive about the app’s live view, while noting that the app was early in its availability. A week-long review is not a durability study and cannot establish how often units fail.

Dyson announced a US launch price of $499. TechRadar listed the set at $499.99 in the US, £419.99 in the UK and AU$799 in Australia. These are launch-era figures, not a guarantee of current pricing or availability. The product’s specialized heads and mouthrinse also make replacement and consumable costs worth checking before purchase.

For alternatives, TechRadar names Oclean, Philips, Oral-B and Feno as brands with smart toothbrushes offering features such as sensors, apps or voice guidance. That does not make their products like-for-like CameraJet substitutes: compare the specific model’s price, replacement-head costs, coaching features, cleaning method, size and whether it has a camera or integrated jet. A conventional brush paired with a separate flossing method may also suit someone who does not want a bulky, camera-equipped device.
Dyson’s launch materials cite its 2017 Oral Care Usage & Attitudes Study for claims that nine in ten people do not floss as regularly as they should and that average brushing time was 45 seconds. Those are figures attributed to Dyson’s study, not current independent population estimates, and they do not demonstrate that CameraJet improves oral health outcomes.
Quick Recap
What remains unconfirmed?
- An audited failure rate, exact number of affected products, complete list of affected serial numbers or regions, and confirmation that all customer-reported malfunctions shared one cause.
- A permanent worldwide withdrawal or recall. The reported regional sales changes and Dyson’s temporary-stock explanation do not establish one.
- Current stock in every market. Dyson’s statement that shipping had resumed describes the position on 30 September 2026, not live availability everywhere.
- Independent clinical validation of Dyson’s targeting and oral-health benefit claims.
