This is a historical DataScienceCentral webinar listing, dated June 21, 2022 and credited to Sean Welch. Its stated problem is how enterprises can unlock value from data spread across legacy relational databases, data warehouses and data lakes. Hitachi’s 2022 product announcements provide context for the MongoDB Atlas reference, but the exact contents of the DSC session are not verified.
What the DataScienceCentral listing says
The listing titled “Optimize Your Data Fabric with Hitachi Vantara and MongoDB Atlas” describes enterprise data that is difficult to use because it is held in separate legacy databases, warehouses and lakes. It presents data integration as a way to make that information more useful across an organization. DataScienceCentral’s category listing dates the item June 21, 2022 and credits Sean Welch: DataScienceCentral.
The listing’s link now redirects to TechTarget’s general homepage, and the exact video or transcript was not available in the retrieved sources. That means the specific presentation, any demonstration, speakers, outcomes and conclusions cannot be confirmed from the accessible listing.
How Hitachi’s 2022 product context relates
In a March 16, 2022 announcement, Hitachi described Lumada DataOps and Pentaho 9.3 data-integration capabilities. The announcement listed connectors for cloud data stores including MongoDB Atlas, Snowflake, Teradata, Elasticsearch 7.x and IBM MQ 9.2. This establishes that Hitachi announced Pentaho connectivity to MongoDB Atlas in that 2022 product context; it does not establish what was demonstrated in the June webinar or provide current compatibility guidance. Hitachi’s March 16, 2022 announcement also described Data Catalog v7.0, based on IO-Tahoe technology, with data-quality capabilities and Collibra connectivity.

Hitachi’s announcement characterized its portfolio as working across ecosystems. Radhika Krishnan, then Hitachi Vantara’s Chief Product Officer, said: “Unlike traditional data management solutions that lock customers into proprietary technologies, the Lumada DataOps and Lumada Industrial DataOps portfolio products augment any ecosystem to manage and govern data from anywhere.” This is the company’s positioning, not an independent comparative finding.
What “data fabric” means in Hitachi’s framing
Hitachi describes data fabric as an evolving concept for simplifying enterprise-wide data management and delivery across on-premises systems and multiple cloud environments. In its explanation, that work can involve connecting sources, ingesting and orchestrating data, transforming it, applying security, and processing it. This is Hitachi’s vendor framing rather than a standards-body definition. Hitachi Vantara’s explanation of data fabric

In practical terms, a data-fabric approach is about coordinating how data is accessed and managed across different systems, rather than assuming that all information must first be moved into one database. The 2022 Pentaho connector announcement supplies one example of the integration layer Hitachi described; it does not by itself establish that any particular organization’s fabric is complete, secure or suitable for its workload.
Do not confuse it with Hitachi’s March webinar
Hitachi Vantara separately documented an on-demand webinar titled “Optimize Your Data Fabric for Digital Innovation,” dated March 24, 2022. Its listed participants were Radhika Krishnan, Chief Product Officer at Hitachi Vantara, and Paige Bartley, Senior Research Analyst at 451 Research. The event description says it covered the state of DataOps in 2022, unifying and governing data, customer experience, data fabrics and AI-driven data management. Hitachi Vantara’s March webinar page

- Established: DataScienceCentral listed the webinar under its title, credited Sean Welch and dated it June 21, 2022.
- Established: The listing frames the business challenge as data distributed among legacy relational databases, warehouses and lakes.
- Established: Hitachi’s March 2022 announcement named MongoDB Atlas among the cloud data stores supported by Pentaho 9.3 connectors.
- Not established: The DSC webinar’s exact speakers, demo, technical steps, customer results or conclusions.
- Not established: A product comparison or benchmark showing that Hitachi, MongoDB Atlas or another option performs better for a particular use case.
For an implementation decision, the listing alone is not a technical specification. Teams would need to verify current connector support and versions, deployment fit across on-premises and cloud environments, governance and data-quality needs, and operational and security requirements against current vendor documentation.
