For smoother Don Bradman Cricket 17 play, first make sure cricket17.exe is running on your discrete GPU, then test a lower quality option or reduced resolution before raising one setting at a time. Keep VSync or a frame-rate limit consistent with your display, and judge success by frame-time consistency during a full match rather than by a menu FPS counter.
The title “Cricket Jr” does not match the authoritative PC listing; the game covered here is Don Bradman Cricket 17 by Big Ant Studios, released for PC on January 16, 2017.
What the PC version requires
Steam’s official listing gives two hardware tiers. They are useful for deciding whether a settings problem is likely to be solvable, but they are not a performance guarantee on modern Windows builds, drivers, laptops or high-refresh displays.

The store note says an internet connection is required to boot the game; you may disconnect after reaching the main menu. A controller is listed as required, so keep a working USB or compatible wireless gamepad connected while diagnosing graphics performance.

How to interpret the tiers
- Below minimum: smooth performance is not assured. Lowering resolution may make the game playable, but there is no reliable setting combination to compensate for missing CPU, GPU memory or system memory.
- Between minimum and recommended: start with conservative image quality and resolution, then add quality gradually. Expect less headroom for crowded scenes and background applications.
- At or above recommended: the game should have more hardware margin, yet frame pacing can still vary with drivers, laptop power modes, display synchronization and which GPU actually runs the executable.
The requirements are from the 2017 PC release. They do not establish a guaranteed frame rate for a current Windows installation, a modern ultrawide monitor or a 120/144 Hz panel.
Check which GPU is actually running the game
Hybrid laptops and some desktops expose both integrated graphics and a discrete NVIDIA or AMD card. If Windows launches cricket17.exe on the integrated adapter, changing image-quality settings may have little effect because the wrong processor is doing the rendering.
Set the NVIDIA processor for the executable
- Close the game completely.
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Choose Manage 3D settings, then open Program Settings.
- Add or select
cricket17.exe. If it is not listed, use the browse button and select the executable in the game’s installation folder. - Set the preferred graphics processor to the system’s discrete NVIDIA GPU, apply the change, and relaunch the game.
- Verify the result with a GPU-activity indicator or Task Manager’s GPU engine column while a match is running.
A Steam Community report from March 9, 2017 described a GTX 1070 system reaching 60 FPS with VSync enabled and more than 100 FPS with VSync disabled after selecting the discrete card. That is one user’s result, not a guaranteed outcome for every GTX 1070, driver or display.

If the computer uses AMD graphics
Use the equivalent per-program profile in the installed AMD graphics software and assign the discrete adapter to cricket17.exe. The exact labels vary by driver version, so confirm the executable and the active adapter rather than relying on a global “high performance” setting.
Confirm power and thermal conditions
- On a laptop, connect AC power and select a performance-oriented Windows power mode while testing.
- Make sure the display cable is connected to the discrete card on a desktop with both motherboard and graphics-card outputs.
- Watch clocks and temperatures during a match. A GPU that starts fast and then drops clocks can produce worsening stutter even when its model exceeds the recommended listing.
- Close recording, browser, overlay and monitoring tools one at a time if they coincide with hitching; change only one variable per test so the cause remains identifiable.
A reversible settings sequence
The official listing does not enumerate every graphics control or confirm universal “low,” “medium” or “ultra” presets. Use the controls exposed by your installed build and follow this order so every change can be undone.
1. Establish a repeatable baseline
- Record your CPU, GPU, installed RAM, display resolution and whether the system has integrated plus discrete graphics.
- Start a representative match rather than judging only the menus. Include batting, fielding, camera movement and a few overs so the same workload can be repeated.
- Note average smoothness, visible hitching, input delay and whether performance worsens after several minutes. If you have an overlay, record the frame rate and frame-time graph, but treat the graph as a diagnostic rather than a promise of a target number.
2. Reduce the largest rendering workload first
- Select the game’s lower available quality option, if the build provides one.
- If stutter remains, reduce the output resolution one step below the display’s native resolution. This reduces pixel work at the cost of image clarity.
- Play the same representative match again and compare frame pacing, not just the highest FPS shown.

3. Raise one option at a time
After the game is stable, restore native resolution or increase one available quality control, then replay the same scenario. Leave a change in place only if motion remains even. If a single option causes hitching, revert it rather than changing several other controls at once. Because the PC listing does not publish a complete control-by-control table, do not assume that a setting has the same cost or label in every installed version.

Choose a sensible VSync and frame-rate behavior
VSync synchronizes completed frames with the display refresh. It can remove visible tearing, but if rendering misses a refresh interval it may make motion feel less responsive or introduce cadence changes. Disabling it can reduce latency and expose a higher FPS counter, but tearing may become visible and extra frames increase GPU load.
Use the display as the reference
- On a 60 Hz display, test VSync enabled first if tearing bothers you. A stable 60 FPS is preferable to a fluctuating counter that repeatedly crosses the refresh boundary.
- If VSync causes obvious hitching, test it disabled and compare frame-time consistency. A Steam Community commenter also suggested trying an FPS limiter; treat that as a troubleshooting experiment, not an official Don Bradman Cricket 17 recommendation.
- On a high-refresh display, do not assume the game can sustain the panel’s maximum rate. Use a consistent cap, if your driver or the game exposes one, and judge camera pans and player movement for cadence.
The reported GTX 1070 result—60 FPS with VSync on and over 100 FPS with it off—shows why these modes can produce different counters. It does not prove that either mode is best on your system.
Diagnose stutter that remains after lowering settings
Low FPS despite a powerful graphics card
Check the active GPU before changing more image options. A discrete card that is idle while the integrated adapter is busy points to a per-program assignment or power issue. After correcting the assignment, retest at the same resolution and match scenario.

Short freezes or uneven frame pacing
Watch for background CPU or disk activity, thermal clock reduction and overlays. A game can show an acceptable average FPS while delivering irregular frame times. Close one background process, replay the same segment and keep the change only if the hitch disappears.
Performance degrades during a longer session
Several players have reported worsening performance over time, including a Steam Community report describing 10–15 FPS on a GTX 980 Ti system. These reports are anecdotal and dated January 16, 2017, so they identify a symptom rather than a universal defect. If your frame rate declines progressively, record temperatures and clock speeds, exit and relaunch the game, and compare a fresh session with the extended one. A rising temperature or falling clock points toward thermal or power limits; unchanged clocks with growing hitching suggests a software or background-process investigation.

Lower settings do not change the result
If reducing quality and resolution produces almost no improvement, the bottleneck may be CPU-side, memory-related, an incorrect GPU assignment or a frame-pacing/synchronization issue rather than raw pixel load. Confirm RAM capacity, check CPU utilization during play, verify the active GPU, and test VSync or a frame limiter separately. Do not keep lowering image quality indefinitely when the measured bottleneck is elsewhere.

Fullscreen suddenly becomes slow
One Steam Community commenter reported recovering performance with Alt+Enter after the game switched to a borderless maximized mode. This is an anecdotal workaround: press Alt+Enter once to change display mode, test the same match, and press it again if you need to return. It is not an official fix and may behave differently across Windows versions and displays.

- Below the minimum tier: reduce resolution and quality, close background programs and accept that smooth performance may not be achievable.
- Meets minimum but stutters: assign the discrete GPU, test a lower quality option, then reduce resolution and compare a repeatable match.
- Meets recommended but stutters: investigate GPU selection, power/thermal behavior, synchronization and background activity before sacrificing image quality.
- High FPS but uneven motion: compare VSync enabled and disabled, then test a consistent frame limiter if available.
- Gets worse over time: compare a fresh launch with an extended session while monitoring temperatures and clocks.
What “smooth” should mean for this game
There is no authoritative universal FPS target or complete official list of graphics controls for the PC build. Define success as repeatable, even motion during batting, bowling, fielding and camera movement at the resolution you can accept. A lower but steady frame rate is generally more useful for timing shots than a high counter accompanied by irregular frame delivery. Keep a written baseline of the active GPU, resolution, synchronization mode and match scenario; that makes each later change measurable instead of turning troubleshooting into guesswork.
