That is not a guarantee that every format or channel will be approved: copyright and Community Guidelines still apply, and repetitive or mass-produced programming can jeopardize monetization. There is also an important replay caveat: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
What YouTube’s guidance does—and does not—establish
YouTube supports live streaming through mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. Its encoder guidance references AJA PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live. This establishes that prerecorded material can be used as a live-stream input; it does not amount to a universal approval of every 24/7 program.
Keep four questions separate: whether a channel can technically transmit the feed, whether it has the rights to the material, whether the content qualifies for monetization, and whether YouTube preserves a replay. Success on one does not settle the others. YouTube’s public guidance cited here does not state a specific maximum session duration or expressly guarantee all-day prerecorded streams.
Rights and Community Guidelines still apply
Under YouTube’s livestream terms, live content must comply with the Community Guidelines, and the provider must have the necessary rights to use the content on Google services, including music licensing rights. A recording does not become exempt from those requirements because it is broadcast as a live feed.

- Confirm that you have permission for the video, music, images, and other material in the stream, including any required commercial or livestream rights.
- Check that the content and its presentation comply with the Community Guidelines.
- Do not assume that crediting a creator or owning a copy of a recording is sufficient permission to rebroadcast it.
Monetization is a separate risk
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other formats. They expect original, authentic content. In its July 15, 2025 update, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material remains ineligible under that standard. YouTube says content should be original and not mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative; reviewers may assess a channel as a whole as well as individual videos.
A minimally changed loop, generic automated programming, or a repeated template with little distinct value may therefore put monetization at risk. Being able to start a stream—or having a stream remain online—does not establish eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program or any individual monetization feature.

Eligible creators may be able to use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships, subject to the eligibility rules for each feature. Ad slots do not guarantee that an ad will serve to every viewer or at every slot. YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That platform-reported comparison is not a forecast for an individual channel and is not specific to 24/7 prerecorded streams.
Plan for the 12-hour replay limitation
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is an archive warning, not a stated maximum live duration. If you need a complete replay, keep a local recording as a backup rather than relying on the public archive.

Stopping and restarting shorter sessions is an operational choice, not a guaranteed archive fix: YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise that any particular restart pattern will produce a complete replay.
Check channel eligibility and streaming limits
Before setting up an encoder, confirm that the channel can go live. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and the user must be at least 16 years old.

YouTube’s setup guidance lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are simultaneous-stream limits, not a published session-duration cap. Check the current YouTube Help pages and the channel’s own restrictions before launch, as eligibility and platform guidance can change.
Choosing a way to send prerecorded video
- Encoder software: Sends a video source to YouTube Live. It can be a practical route when you want control over the broadcast setup; the computer and connection involved in that setup must remain available for the stream to continue.
- Encoder hardware: YouTube describes encoder streaming and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Its encoder guide references AJA PlayToStream as a scheduling option for prerecorded media. Hardware is optional and does not grant content rights or policy approval.
- Cloud service: A service can handle uploaded-video playback and transmission without requiring your own computer to stay on. This changes the operating setup, not YouTube’s rules on rights, originality, or archives.
