What does the Galaxy S26 Ultra cost more?

A Tom’s Guide report dated October 1, 2026, later put U.S. starting prices at $999, $1,199, and $1,399, respectively. That report is not a live price feed, so check a retailer’s current offer before deciding. Samsung’s launch announcement; Tom’s Guide, October 1, 2026.

These are Samsung-published specifications, not independent comparative test results. Battery capacity and rated charging wattage do not establish real-world battery life or charging time, and camera specifications alone do not prove better photos in every situation. Samsung says wider apertures help low-light photography; that is a manufacturer claim, not independent comparative evidence. See Samsung’s U.S. model comparison and its S26 launch announcement.

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
Privacy Display: a situational advantage
When activated, Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display limits side-angle visibility; when off, Samsung says full viewing quality is preserved from all directions. It is most valuable on commutes, in shared spaces, or whenever you regularly handle sensitive material in public. It is not an across-the-board upgrade if you rarely need that kind of privacy.
S Pen: pay for a tool you will actually use
The Ultra is the lineup’s S Pen option. Handwriting notes, annotating documents, and precision input can make that support worthwhile; if you do not use a stylus, it adds little practical value to your purchase.

Camera hardware: more reach, not a guaranteed result
The S26 and S26+ share the listed 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP 3x telephoto setup. The Ultra adds a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP 5x telephoto alongside its 10MP 3x telephoto. That gives the Ultra more zoom options on paper, particularly for distant subjects, but the cited specifications do not establish how much better its photos are in everyday use.
Is the S26+ the better middle ground?
The S26+ offers a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz display and a 4,900mAh battery with up to 45W wired charging, while retaining the S26’s listed core rear-camera setup. It does not have the Ultra’s S Pen support or Privacy Display. For someone who wants a larger, sharper screen but does not need those Ultra-specific features or its additional camera hardware, the Plus is a sensible midpoint.

What do all three models share?
Samsung presents the S26 series as a Galaxy AI lineup, describing features including Now Nudge, Now Brief, Circle to Search, upgraded Bixby, and integration with a choice of agents including Gemini and Perplexity. It also describes Photo Assist, Creative Studio, Document Scan, security and privacy changes, and seven years of security updates. These shared capabilities are part of the series pitch; they are not, on the cited information, a reason to pay the Ultra premium specifically.
Samsung says the Ultra’s customized chipset improves CPU performance by up to 19%, NPU performance by 39%, and GPU performance by 24% versus the prior-generation Ultra baseline used in its announcement. Those percentages are Samsung’s claims, not independent test results, and do not by themselves show how much faster the phone will feel in a buyer’s everyday use. Samsung Newsroom, February 25, 2026.

How to decide whether the premium is worth it
- Check today’s prices. Compare the exact storage configuration and buying terms for each model, including carrier status, trade-in conditions, and temporary discounts.
- Choose your screen size. The S26 is 6.3 inches and FHD+; the Plus is 6.7 inches and QHD+; the Ultra is 6.9 inches and QHD+.
- Identify a feature you will use regularly. Consider whether you need Privacy Display, an S Pen, the Ultra’s 5x telephoto and other camera hardware, or its larger screen and higher rated charging peak.
- Buy to your actual use, not a spec sheet alone. If none of the Ultra’s distinct features solves a real need, the S26 or S26+ avoids paying for capabilities you may leave unused.
