No. Super Chat revenue does not count toward YouTube livestream watch hours or add qualified hours toward YouTube Partner Program (YPP) thresholds. Super Chat is money a viewer pays to highlight a message; watch hours measure eligible viewing time. A public livestream may contribute eligible hours if it is converted to a video on demand (VOD), but the Super Chat amount does not create extra hours.
Super Chat revenue and watch hours measure different things
| Item | What it measures | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Super Chat | A viewer payment to highlight a message in live chat | Fan-funding revenue, subject to feature eligibility and applicable terms |
| Qualified watch hours | Eligible time viewers spend watching public long-form videos | YPP watch-hour eligibility thresholds |
A viewer can send a Super Chat during a livestream, but the payment is not viewing time. Conversely, viewers can contribute eligible watch time without sending a Super Chat.
Can a livestream count toward YPP watch hours?
It may. YouTube’s YPP overview and eligibility guidance describes qualified hours as watch hours gained from long-form videos set to public. It excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. That means the stream’s public status and whether its archive remains available matter; do not assume every live broadcast automatically counts.
- Public stream retained as VOD: its eligible viewing may contribute to qualified hours.
- Unlisted or deleted stream: excluded from the watch-hour threshold.
- Stream not converted to VOD: excluded from the threshold.
The payment amount has no effect on these conditions. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current eligibility progress, and use your account’s analytics and earnings views for channel-specific results.

How watch-hour thresholds relate to monetization
YouTube Help’s current guidance, checked in 2026, lists different YPP tiers. The pages do not display an original publication year, and eligibility guidance can change.
| YPP eligibility route | Subscriber and activity requirements | Long-form watch-hour route | Shorts alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry tier | 500 subscribers and 3 public uploads in the last 90 days | 3,000 qualified hours in the last 365 days | 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days |
| Higher ad eligibility tier | 1,000 subscribers | 4,000 qualified hours in the last 365 days | 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days |
These thresholds are eligibility routes, not a conversion between money and hours. Meeting a watch-hour threshold alone does not guarantee YPP acceptance or access to every monetization feature; YouTube reviews applications against channel policies, and feature eligibility has separate requirements.

Super Chat earnings are separate from ads and watch time
YouTube’s monetization options and earnings overview distinguish fan-funding products from Watch Page advertising. Current YouTube Help guidance checked in 2026 states a 70% share of net revenues for eligible channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module. It states a 55% share of net revenues from Watch Page ads under the Watch Page Monetization Module. These are separate module terms, not guaranteed earnings for a particular stream or payment; YouTube does not guarantee how much a partner will be paid. YouTube Premium revenue is also separate from Super Chat.
Super Chat access depends on separate feature requirements, acceptance of relevant module terms, and country or region availability. YPP threshold eligibility by itself does not switch on Super Chat for every channel. See YouTube’s expanded YPP overview and channel monetization policies for applicable requirements and policy guidance.

Keeping an eligible livestream available as a replay
If your goal is eligible livestream watch time, focus on the viewing and archive conditions, not Super Chat totals:
- Set the livestream’s visibility to public.
- Keep the resulting VOD available rather than deleting it or leaving it unconverted.
- Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio to monitor qualified-hour progress and your channel’s other eligibility requirements.
For a channel that needs uploaded video to keep running as a YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not change YPP rules or make Super Chat revenue count as watch time.

Or let it run in the cloud
