How does LillyDirect work in Australia?
- A healthcare professional issues an electronic prescription. Lilly says prescribing decisions and clinical responsibility stay with that professional.
- The patient creates an account and submits the e-script token. The account and sign-in flow leads to a third-party-operated site with its own terms and privacy policy, according to Lilly’s service page.
- The patient confirms the medicine and delivery details, then proceeds to payment. Lilly says the price is displayed after the e-script code is entered; the page does not publish a price list.
- A licensed pharmacy dispenses and fulfils the order. The medicine is then delivered to the patient’s home in discreet, quality-protected packaging.
Lilly describes the service as offering home delivery, prescription and repeat management, and delivery tracking. It says pricing is “competitive,” but does not provide a comparison with community pharmacies or evidence of a specific saving.
Who prescribes and dispenses?
The prescriber and pharmacy have separate roles. The healthcare professional decides whether to issue a prescription and retains clinical responsibility. A licensed pharmacy handles dispensing, fulfilment, and delivery. LillyDirect says it does not prescribe or dispense medicines; it provides the online route for managing fulfilment.
What medicines and conditions does the service cover?
Lilly describes the service as covering select Lilly medicines for people living with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea. The service page reviewed does not give a complete named-medicine list, so availability should be checked through current authoritative product information and the service itself. The information does not establish that every medicine for those conditions is available through LillyDirect.

How much does LillyDirect cost?
Lilly says the price depends on the prescription and appears after the e-script code is entered. It does not publish a fixed price or a like-for-like comparison with other pharmacy fulfilment options on the service page. To compare routes, consider the total patient price, including delivery, as well as the dispensing pharmacy, prescription-transfer method, repeat-order arrangements, access to pharmacist advice, and applicable service and privacy terms.
Why does the pharmacy distinction matter?
In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) says the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 prohibits advertising prescription medicines to the public except in very limited circumstances. Its guidance also says it is unlawful for a business such as a pharmacy to promote named prescription medicines or a specific class as available for dispensing; adding a disclaimer that consumers should consult a health practitioner does not exempt material from the restrictions. The TGA’s public overview includes prescription-only medicines and substances, including weight-loss injections, among goods that cannot be advertised to the general public.
