Yes—SteamDeckHQ found Gears of War: E-Day playable on Steam Machine, but you must choose between image quality and frame rate. For 2K (2560×1440) at 60 FPS, its recommended setup uses FSR 4 Performance and Low settings; for a sharper 2K image, use FSR 4 Quality, High settings, and a 30-FPS cap. The results below are recommendations from SteamDeckHQ’s test, not a guarantee for every Steam Machine configuration.

Recommended Steam Machine settings by resolution and goal

FSR 4 renders the game at a lower internal resolution and upscales it to the chosen output resolution. Moving from Quality to Balanced or Performance favors speed over image detail. The SteamDeckHQ recommendations pair each mode with a quality preset and frame-rate target:

Output resolution Goal Upscaling and preset Expected target and trade-off
2560×1440 (2K) Image quality FSR 4 Quality; High 30 FPS; sharper image, lower frame rate
2560×1440 (2K) Performance FSR 4 Performance; Low 60 FPS; reduced visual quality
1080p Image quality FSR 4 Quality; Ultra 30 FPS; the highest visual-quality recommendation in the test
1080p Performance FSR 4 Balanced; Medium 60 FPS; lower detail for smoother motion
4K Playable target FSR 4 Balanced; Low About 30 FPS; relies on upscaling, not native 4K rendering

These settings and targets are reported or recommended by SteamDeckHQ’s Steam Machine test. Its 2K/60 recommendation is a performance mode, not native 1440p rendering at High quality. For 4K, SteamDeckHQ also says Medium settings require FSR 4 Ultra Performance; native 4K is not a practical target in its recommendations.

Which mode should you choose?

Choose 2K/60 for smoother motion

Set output to 2560×1440, use FSR 4 Performance and the Low preset, and target 60 FPS. This is the option for players who value responsiveness over fine detail. The lower preset and more aggressive upscaling are the cost of the higher frame-rate target.

Choose 2K/30 for a better-looking image

Use FSR 4 Quality with the High preset and cap the game at 30 FPS. This is SteamDeckHQ’s recommended 2K quality setup. It sacrifices motion smoothness to preserve more visual detail.

Use 1080p if you want another balance

For a quality-focused 1080p setup, SteamDeckHQ recommends FSR 4 Quality, Ultra settings, and 30 FPS. For 60 FPS, it recommends FSR 4 Balanced and Medium settings. Choose between those configurations according to whether detail or smoother motion matters more to you.

GMKtec K12 Gaming Mini PC Oculink AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 (Upgraded 8745HS) 32GB DDR5 RAM 512GB SSD, Desktop Computer Radeon 780M Graphics, 3X M.2 2280 Storage Expansion, Dual NIC 2.5G, HDMI 2.1, USB4
  • RYZEN 7 H 255 CPU - The Ryzen 7 H 255 is a chip from the Hawk Point family and is an upgraded version of the older Ryzen 7 8745H and has 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) that run at up to 4.9 GHz, together with the powerful Radeon 780M iGPU. Unlike Zen 3, Zen 4 offers AVX512 support along with other improvements such as larger caches/registers/buffers across the board.
  • GAMING PC - The Radeon 780M (12 CUs / 768 shaders, up to 2,600 MHz) can drive multiple displays simultaneously with a resolution of up to 8K. Hardware encoding and hardware decoding of the most common video codecs (AV1, AVC, HEVC) is also no problem; playing the latest games on FSR settings without issues.
  • WHY CHOOSE DDR5 5600MHz DUAL CHANNEL (2×16GB): With a 5600MHz clock—a 17% frequency uplift over 4800MHz—this kit delivers massive bandwidth gains that elevate real-world performance. Gamers enjoy higher minimum FPS and less stutter in open-world and sim titles for a smoother competitive experience. Video editors and 3D creators benefit from faster 4K/8K timeline scrubbing, quicker renders in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, and swifter asset loading. For AI/LLM workloads, the superior throughput reduces I/O bottlenecks, cuts token generation latency, and accelerates model fine-tuning by keeping processing cores fed with data—so you wait less and create more.
  • 32GB DDR5 RAM + 512GB SSD - The K12 mini computer is equipped with Dual 16GB (Total 32GB) SO-DIMM DDR5 5600MHz memory sticks. 512GB PCIE 4.0 SSD Drive with 3x M.2 2280 Expansion slots. Each slot capable of reading up to 8TB. (24TB MAX)
  • QUAD SCREEN 4K DISPLAY SUPPORT - K12 Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and USB Type-C Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.

Treat 4K as an upscaled 30-FPS option

SteamDeckHQ recommends FSR 4 Balanced with Low settings for roughly 30 FPS at 4K output. That is an upscaled image, not native 4K rendering. Its test does not support treating 4K/60 as a practical Steam Machine target.

Why PC requirements do not translate directly to Steam Machine

The published PC targets show how demanding the game is, but they are not a direct Steam Machine benchmark. PC Gamer reports targets of 1080p/60 FPS at Medium, 1440p/60+ at High, and 4K/60+ at Ultra, with DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, or XeSS 3.0 upscaling at every tier. Its specifications list 115 GB of storage and require a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU (PC Gamer’s system-requirements report). These broader PC targets should not be read as the settings the Steam Machine test achieved.

TechSpot likewise reports that the listed PC configurations rely on upscaling, that the Ultra tier calls for an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 7900 XT, and that the stated storage requirement was reduced from 130 GB to 115 GB (TechSpot’s requirements coverage). Those details reinforce why native 4K or high-quality 60-FPS expectations should be kept separate from the Steam Machine recommendations.

CPU performance can affect results

Steam Machine results should not be generalized to every PC based on GPU class alone. In Tom’s Hardware testing, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D delivered 42% higher performance than a Ryzen 5 7600X at 1080p High, and the publication found unusually strong scaling across CPUs. Tom’s says its built-in benchmark is close to real gameplay, though its sweeping camera makes it slightly slower than representative scenes (Tom’s Hardware’s CPU benchmarks). This is PC CPU-comparison evidence, not a quantified Steam Machine CPU result.
