No—not by itself. Tapping Build number to reveal Android’s Developer Options menu is a normal settings action. It does not automatically enable USB debugging, unlock the bootloader, root the phone, or install modified software. Warranty terms depend on the device maker, model, and country where you bought the phone, so the answer may differ if you changed more than the menu.
What enabling Developer Options actually does
Developer Options is a built-in Android settings screen for configuring system behaviors used to profile and debug apps. It includes separate controls for features such as USB debugging, bug reports, and graphics settings. Android’s documentation says the screen is hidden until enabled on Android 4.2 and later; the documented method is to tap Build number seven times. The menu path and labels can vary by manufacturer and model. Android Developers explains Developer Options and how to enable it.
Android’s Compatibility Definition Document requires device implementations to hide Developer Options by default and provide a clear way to enable it. It also recommends an ongoing visual notification on devices where enabling the menu could affect safety. Those are platform requirements and recommendations, not warranty terms. The Android 15 Compatibility Definition Document.
Which actions are separate from enabling the menu?
Opening Developer Options does not carry out every action available inside it. The distinction matters because debugging access and changes to the phone’s boot process or software have different security implications.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| What you did | What it means | Warranty takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled Developer Options | Revealed a settings menu, typically by tapping Build number seven times. | The reviewed Android documentation does not say that revealing the menu voids a warranty. |
| Enabled USB debugging | Allowed Android Studio and other SDK tools to communicate with the device over USB. | This is a separate setting; whether it affects a particular warranty claim depends on the maker’s terms and the circumstances. |
| Enabled OEM unlocking | Changed a separate setting associated with the possibility of unlocking the bootloader. | Do not treat enabling the menu—or this setting alone—as the same event as actually unlocking the bootloader. |
| Unlocked the bootloader | Changed the device’s boot configuration and security state. | Android’s security guidance includes a bootloader-unlock warning example that says the action may void the warranty. |
| Rooted the phone or installed modified software | Changed the device’s software or system access beyond simply revealing Developer Options. | Check the specific manufacturer’s warranty and support terms; the general Android sources do not establish one outcome for every device. |
Android’s documentation treats USB debugging as a distinct setting, and its security guidance shows the warning “Yes: Unlock bootloader (may void warranty)” in a bootloader-unlock example. That warning refers to unlocking the bootloader—not to tapping Build number. Android Developers on debugging settings; Android Open Source Project security guidance on the boot flow.
Why the warranty answer can vary
A phone warranty is set by its manufacturer and can vary by device and purchase location. For example, Google publishes separate warranty terms for the United States and Canada and for India. Its US/Canada limited warranty describes coverage for defects in materials and workmanship under normal use in accordance with Google’s published user documentation, subject to the conditions on that page. These examples illustrate why an Android-wide answer cannot promise identical warranty treatment for every brand or country.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
The cited Android and Google sources do not establish the warranty outcome for every manufacturer, model, carrier variant, or jurisdiction. Local consumer-protection rules may also affect an individual dispute; these sources do not determine those rights.

What to do if you are concerned about coverage
- Identify the device and purchase location. Note the exact model and the country where you bought it.
- Write down what you changed. Distinguish revealing Developer Options from enabling USB debugging or OEM unlocking, unlocking the bootloader, rooting, or installing modified software.
- Check the applicable warranty. Use the manufacturer’s terms for your model and purchase country, along with its support documentation.
- If a repair is denied, ask for the reason in writing. Ask the manufacturer to identify the warranty clause it relies on and explain how the specific setting or action caused the claimed damage.
