Often—but there is no single compatibility answer for the dbForge product family. Check the specific Studio, database release, computer operating system, and, for SQL Server add-ins, the version of SSMS or Visual Studio. Devart publishes separate compatibility and requirements pages for each product.
Check these four compatibility layers
- Choose the product: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle Studio. Their compatibility lists are separate; the dbForge Edge compatibility matrix provides a consolidated view.
- Match the database engine and release: Use the exact engine and version, and check whether the entry is marked as limited support or names a hosted service.
- Check the computer running dbForge: The Studio’s operating-system requirements are distinct from the database server’s platform. Windows, Linux, and macOS routes may have different prerequisites.
- Check the integration host if applicable: SQL Server add-ins have separate SSMS and Visual Studio version requirements; database compatibility alone does not confirm IDE integration.
Devart’s published compatibility pages consulted here list the following database ranges. These are vendor-listed compatibility entries, not performance measurements.
Database versions listed by dbForge Studio
| Studio | Database versions listed | Additional compatibility notes |
|---|---|---|
| SQL Server | SQL Server 2025, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016 SP1/2016, 2014, 2012, 2008/2008 R2, 2005, 2000 (limited support), and LocalDB. | Devart also lists SQL Server on Linux, Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance, Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric. See the SQL Tools compatibility matrix. |
| MySQL | MySQL 5.5–9.5; MariaDB 5.5–12.2; Percona 5.5–8.4. | Hosted options include Amazon RDS/Aurora and Azure Database for MySQL. See MySQL Studio requirements. |
| PostgreSQL | PostgreSQL 8.4–18. | Hosted options listed include Amazon RDS/Aurora, Azure PostgreSQL, Supabase, and Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL. See PostgreSQL Studio requirements. |
| Oracle | Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c, 18c, 19c, 21c, 23c, and 26ai. | Devart also mentions Oracle Cloud, RAC, and Oracle on Amazon RDS; Oracle Client bitness may matter. See Oracle Studio requirements. |
For an exact setup, open the requirements page for your Studio and verify the database entry there. Compatibility lists can change as Devart updates its products.
Operating systems and prerequisites
The requirements pages for SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle Studio list these host operating systems:

- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
- Windows: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11; Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025. The pages specify .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher.
- Linux: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- macOS: High Sierra 10.13, Mojave 10.14, Catalina 10.15, Big Sur 11, and Monterey 12 on the requirements pages.
For Linux and macOS, Devart’s product requirements state: “CodeWeavers CrossOver must be pre-installed in order to work with Linux and macOS.” Check CrossOver’s own system requirements as well as the requirements for the dbForge Studio you intend to install. See the SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle requirements pages.
Newer macOS versions need extra confirmation
There is a mismatch between Devart’s MySQL Studio pages: the MySQL product page advertises macOS Ventura 13, Sonoma 14, Sequoia 15, and Tahoe 26, while its requirements page lists macOS through Monterey 12. If you use a newer macOS release, confirm the current installation guidance for the exact product and version rather than treating either page alone as a definitive compatibility promise.

SQL Server add-ins: check SSMS or Visual Studio separately
If you use a dbForge SQL Server add-in, the host application has its own compatibility list. Devart’s SQL Tools matrix lists SSMS versions 17 through 22 and Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2026. It also says dbForge SQL Server add-ins from version 7.0 no longer integrate with SSMS 2012 or 2014, and dbForge Visual Studio add-ins from version 7.0 no longer integrate with Visual Studio 2012 or 2013. Verify the add-in and host versions together before installing.
The database server does not have to share your computer’s OS
The operating-system requirements above apply to the desktop Studio software, not necessarily to the database server. Devart separately lists support for SQL Server on Linux and for hosted database platforms, so a server running on another operating system or in a cloud service is not automatically ruled out. Confirm that the specific database or service appears in the compatibility list for your Studio.
