Yes: Claude Code runs on your computer, but when it uses Amazon Bedrock for inference, it sends the model request—including the prompt and any code or surrounding context included in that request—to Bedrock. That is not the same as saying the request always stays in a particular AWS region. Its route depends on whether the configured Bedrock endpoint is global or regional, and separate settings such as invocation logging and a corporate proxy affect other parts of the data path.

Does Claude Code keep my code local when I use Bedrock?

No. Claude Code is a local command-line tool, but using Bedrock means model inference happens through Bedrock’s APIs. The model needs the relevant prompt and context to answer, so anything Claude Code includes in a request is transmitted from your computer to the service. Anthropic describes this Bedrock integration in its Claude on Amazon Bedrock documentation, and its Claude Code setup documentation covers configuring the local tool for a provider.

This does not mean every file in your project is automatically uploaded. It means you should treat the content actually included in model requests as sent to Bedrock, rather than assuming that inference is local. Which files or snippets are included depends on the request and the tool’s operation.

Can Bedrock route Claude requests outside my region?

It can route requests beyond a specific region if you use a global inference endpoint. Anthropic describes global endpoints as using dynamic routing for availability; its regional endpoints provide routing through designated geographic regions. Anthropic characterizes regional endpoints as providing “Guaranteed data routing through specific geographic regions.” See the endpoint details in its Bedrock documentation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

So “using Bedrock” alone does not establish that processing stays in your chosen region. Check the actual inference profile or endpoint, the model’s availability, and the region configured for your account. Regional routing addresses geographic routing as described by Anthropic; it does not, by itself, settle every legal, contractual, or organizational residency requirement.

Does Claude Code send telemetry when I use AWS Bedrock?

Anthropic documents a different default for nonessential client traffic when Claude Code is used with Bedrock: operational telemetry, error reporting, and bug reporting are disabled by default. Anthropic also says its Statsig telemetry concerns operational measures such as latency, reliability, and usage patterns, and does not include code or file paths. These are documented defaults, not a guarantee for every software release or customized environment. Check Anthropic’s Claude Code data-usage documentation and the settings for the version you run.

Keep this separate from inference: the Bedrock request containing model input is part of using Claude Code with Bedrock, while the telemetry and reporting described above are separate client data flows.

Can my Bedrock logs contain prompts and completions?

Yes, if Bedrock invocation logging is enabled and configured to capture them. Anthropic says invocation logging can record prompts and completions, and that enabling the service does not give AWS or Anthropic access to the content. Logging is a separate customer-side configuration; do not assume it is on or off without checking your account. Review the configured destination, who can access stored logs, and the applicable retention settings.

How to check the data path in your setup

  1. Confirm the active provider. Verify that Claude Code is configured to use Bedrock, rather than assuming the provider from the command or project name.
  2. Identify the endpoint and region. Record the model or inference-profile identifier and determine whether it uses a global or regional endpoint. Confirm the region against your account configuration and requirements.
  3. Inspect invocation logging. Check whether it is enabled, what it captures, where records are sent, who can read them, and how long they are retained.
  4. Check network intermediaries. If your organization uses an HTTP/HTTPS proxy, gateway, or other network control, review its routing and inspection policy. Anthropic documents proxy support in its corporate proxy configuration guide; that does not mean every listed destination is contacted in a Bedrock setup.
  5. Recheck after changes. Endpoint support and documented defaults can change, so verify the current documentation and account configuration before making deployment or compliance decisions.

What “outside your AWS environment” means here

If by “outside” you mean outside your computer, yes: inference requests are sent to Bedrock. If you mean outside a particular AWS region, the answer depends on whether the configured endpoint is global or regional. If you mean outside your AWS account or contractual boundary, the phrase is too broad to answer from the provider name alone; confirm the service arrangement, routing, logging, and organization controls that apply to your deployment.
