Not necessarily. Adweek reported that OpenAI confirmed a $200,000 minimum commitment for select advertisers in an early ChatGPT Ads beta. That report does not establish a universal or current minimum. OpenAI later introduced beta self-serve Ads Manager and CPC bidding, but its public materials reviewed do not state a current minimum by buying route or market.

What did the $200,000 ChatGPT Ads report say?

Adweek’s search listing reported that OpenAI confirmed a $200,000 minimum commitment for select advertisers in the beta. The article itself was unavailable for review, so its publication date, the commitment’s duration, and the precise eligibility terms are not established here. In particular, the available report does not say whether the figure applied per campaign, per year, or on another basis. Read Adweek’s report.

That makes the figure useful as a report about access for some advertisers in an early beta—not as a published rate card or proof that every advertiser must spend that amount.

Is the $200,000 minimum still in effect?

OpenAI’s later public materials describe more buying options, but do not publish a universal current minimum. On May 5, 2026, OpenAI said it was beginning to roll out beta self-serve Ads Manager, expanding access through partners, and adding CPC bidding alongside the initial CPM pilot. Advertisers could set budgets and bids and manage campaigns in Ads Manager. OpenAI’s announcement does not specify whether a minimum commitment applies to each route.

OpenAI’s Help Center says advertiser-account access depends on whether the advertiser’s country is supported; registering an account alone does not confer access. The official materials reviewed do not state current minimums for self-serve accounts, agency-supported buying, or technology-partner routes. Check OpenAI’s advertiser help information for current access details.

How much does it cost to advertise on ChatGPT?

There is no current universal minimum in the official sources reviewed. The early $200,000 figure is attributed to Adweek and limited to select beta advertisers. OpenAI’s May 2026 announcement describes budget-setting and bidding in Ads Manager but does not give a minimum spend or a standard price. Actual campaign economics therefore depend on the advertiser’s eligible buying route, budget, and bids; consult OpenAI or the relevant partner for terms that apply to a specific account.

Do not confuse a payment threshold with a campaign minimum

OpenAI’s billing FAQ distinguishes the card payment threshold from a campaign budget. A payment threshold is when the card is charged; it is not, by itself, a minimum campaign commitment. OpenAI’s billing FAQ explains the billing distinction.

What buying routes and bidding options has OpenAI described?

Agency or technology partner OpenAI named Dentsu, Omnicom, Publicis, and WPP as agency partners, and Adobe, Criteo, Kargo, Pacvue, and StackAdapt as technology partners. CPC bidding OpenAI said CPC bidding was being added as Ads Manager rolled out. Source. A standard CPC price, minimum bid, or guaranteed campaign outcome.

Can small businesses buy ChatGPT ads?

The available information does not establish a blanket yes or no. Self-serve Ads Manager may offer a direct buying path, but it is a beta rollout and eligibility depends on supported markets and account access. OpenAI has not published a current minimum that would show whether a particular small business can participate at its budget. Check whether your country and account are eligible, then confirm the applicable campaign and billing terms before planning spend. OpenAI Help Center.

What else should advertisers know before budgeting?

Access and operational terms vary by route

OpenAI’s May 2026 announcement describes campaign controls in Ads Manager and support from agency and technology partners, but it does not promise identical access or terms across those routes. Confirm which route is available to your business and what budget, bid, creative, and reporting controls it provides.

Scale claims are not campaign performance evidence

In an August 2026 company update, OpenAI said ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in less than 200 days, were available in more than 40 countries through its Ads Solutions team and partners, and had an ecosystem of more than 50 technology and measurement partners. These are OpenAI’s company claims, not an independent audit or evidence of return on ad spend for an individual campaign. OpenAI’s update.

OpenAI says users can turn off ad personalization, dismiss ads, check why an ad was shown, and clear data used for ads. Its Help Center lists Plus and Pro as ad-free subscription options, while noting availability may vary by region and over time. OpenAI’s principles page also says it will always offer a way not to see ads, including an ad-free paid tier. Help Center · OpenAI’s advertising principles.

What to verify before committing a budget

  • Whether your advertiser account and country currently have access.
  • Which buying route is available: beta Ads Manager or a partner.
  • The minimum, if any, that applies to your particular account and route, and the period it covers.
  • Whether bidding is CPM, CPC, or both for your account, and how campaign budgets and bids are controlled.
  • How billing thresholds work, separately from campaign budgets.
  • What reporting is available and what results can be measured; platform scale figures do not establish campaign return on spend.
