Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Many developers who tried GitHub Copilot reported feeling more productive, especially because it helped them stay in flow and reduced effort on repetitive coding. A controlled experiment also found faster completion of one programming task. But those findings do not prove that Copilot makes every developer, team, or codebase more productive: a later workplace study found no statistically significant change in commit activity after adoption.
What does “more productive” mean here?
Feeling more productive is not the same as producing more code, finishing every task faster, improving code quality, or delivering better business results. A survey can capture how developers experience their work; a timed experiment can compare performance on a specific assignment; and commit counts can track one form of activity. Each measure answers a different question.
That distinction matters when weighing GitHub Copilot evidence. The positive survey findings concern respondents’ reported experience. The speed result comes from one controlled JavaScript task. Neither establishes a universal productivity gain.
What Copilot users reported about their experience
In a GitHub survey of more than 2,000 developers enrolled in the Copilot Technical Preview, 73% said Copilot helped them stay in flow, and 87% said it helped preserve mental effort during repetitive tasks. Across selected statements about fulfillment, frustration, and focusing on more satisfying work, GitHub reported agreement ranging from 60% to 75%. These are responses from survey participants, not estimates of how all Copilot users feel.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The makeup of that group also limits how broadly the results should be applied: respondents were approximately 60% professional developers, 30% students, and 7% hobbyists. The survey results are useful evidence about how these early users experienced Copilot, but they are not a representative verdict for every developer or workplace. GitHub’s productivity-and-happiness report was updated in 2024.
Did Copilot help developers finish coding faster?
GitHub randomized 95 professional developers to implement a JavaScript HTTP server with or without Copilot. In GitHub’s report, 78% of the Copilot group completed the task, compared with 70% of the group without Copilot. Average completion time was 1 hour 11 minutes with Copilot and 2 hours 41 minutes without it. GitHub described the result as a 55% speed improvement, with p=.0017 and a 95% confidence interval of 21% to 89%.

A 2023 Microsoft Research publication listing and arXiv abstract describe the same general experiment as 55.8% faster. That is a source-specific reported figure for the same experiment, not a separate replication. The result supports a narrower conclusion: in this controlled test, professional developers with Copilot completed this JavaScript assignment faster on average. It does not establish that Copilot produces the same gain on other tasks, languages, codebases, or day-to-day work. The paper’s abstract and publication record provide the 55.8% figure.
What usage data can—and cannot—show
GitHub’s 2022 survey and telemetry report covered more than 2,000 U.S.-based developers and compared subjective reports with anonymized Copilot usage data. Among the usage measures described, suggestion acceptance rate had the strongest association with reported usefulness or productivity. An association does not show that accepting more suggestions causes higher productivity: developers’ tasks, habits, and perceptions may differ in ways the measure does not capture. GitHub’s survey and telemetry report describes the analysis.

For organizations, GitHub documents the Copilot Metrics API and recommends tailoring measurement to the organization. Usage and acceptance metrics can help describe how a tool is being used; on their own, they do not establish business output, code quality, or return on investment. GitHub’s enterprise measurement guidance explains its approach.
Why workplace results may differ from the survey and experiment
A 2025 preprint reports a two-year mixed-methods case study at NAV IT, a single organization. The analysis included 26,317 non-merge commits across 703 repositories and compared groups of 25 Copilot users and 14 non-users. Copilot users already had higher activity before adopting the tool. The authors found no statistically significant post-adoption change in commit-based activity, although they observed minor increases. The preprint abstract reports these results.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
This finding does not cancel out respondents’ reported feelings or the controlled task result. Commit activity is not a complete measure of productivity, and a study of one organization cannot determine what happens everywhere. It does show why a positive user experience, a faster result on one assignment, and an organization-wide output measure should not be treated as interchangeable evidence.

For an individual developer or team, the useful question is not whether one headline percentage applies universally. It is whether Copilot improves outcomes for the tasks and workflow that matter locally. Define the outcome before measuring, and use more than an adoption or acceptance number.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Choose the work: Identify representative tasks, such as repetitive coding, new feature work, or navigating an unfamiliar codebase. Results from a JavaScript server assignment may not transfer to other work.
- Track experience separately: Ask developers about flow, effort, frustration, and satisfaction. Keep these subjective outcomes distinct from elapsed time or delivered work.
- Measure task outcomes: Where practical, compare completion time and completion rates on similar tasks, and assess whether the resulting code meets the team’s quality requirements.
- Interpret telemetry cautiously: Suggestion acceptance and usage describe interaction with Copilot; they are not direct measures of value delivered.
- Use workplace activity in context: Commit counts can be one signal, but they do not capture every kind of engineering work or establish causation by themselves.
The evidence is strongest when a team combines measures suited to its goals and interprets them in light of task type, codebase familiarity, participant population, and study setting.
