Choose the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 if you want a dedicated camera; choose the Insta360 Flow if you want smoother video from a compatible phone. They are not two cameras with interchangeable specs: Pocket 3 captures video with its own sensor and lens, while Flow stabilizes a phone and adds subject tracking, a selfie stick, and a tripod.
What is the difference between Pocket 3 and Flow?
The Pocket 3 is a standalone three-axis gimbal camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor and a rotatable 2-inch screen, according to DJI’s specifications. The Insta360 Flow is a three-axis smartphone gimbal: your phone supplies the camera, sensor, lens, video modes, and recording app. Flow’s official product page describes its stabilization and phone-support features at Insta360.
That distinction is the central buying decision. Pocket 3 gives you a self-contained camera to carry and operate. Flow keeps you filming with the phone you already own, but what it can record depends on that phone and how you use it.

Which gives you better video quality and recording options?
Choose Pocket 3 for a dedicated camera and known video modes
DJI lists a 1-inch sensor and normal video recording up to 4K/60fps for Pocket 3. It also lists 4K/120fps, but that rate is for slow-motion mode—not ordinary real-time video. The camera’s own sensor and lens mean its image capture does not depend on which phone you own.

Choose Flow to stabilize your phone’s camera
Flow does not replace or upgrade the phone camera. Its role is to stabilize the handset and support tracking and framing. The resulting image quality, resolution, frame rate, and access to phone-camera features therefore depend on the specific phone and app. Insta360 says some functions are unavailable when tracking with the iPhone native camera and iOS apps; check the current Flow compatibility list for the handset and features you plan to use.
Which is better for tracking and filming yourself?
Both use three-axis stabilization and offer subject tracking, but the surrounding workflow differs. DJI lists ActiveTrack 6.0 and gives Pocket 3 its own rotatable screen for framing. Insta360 lists AI-powered Deep Track 3.0 for Flow; its key advantage is combining phone stabilization with built-in support hardware.

For solo filming, Flow’s integrated 215 mm selfie stick and tripod can help you place the phone farther away or set it down for a shot. Pocket 3’s screen and tracking support framing with the dedicated camera. Neither tracking label alone establishes which will work better in every situation: with Flow, verify the exact phone model and intended camera app, because feature support varies by handset.
Will your phone fit the Insta360 Flow?
Insta360 specifies a phone width of 64–84 mm, thickness of 6.9–10 mm, and weight of 130–300 g. Those dimensions are the manufacturer’s stated fit range; check that your phone also fits with its case attached if you plan to leave the case on. Confirm your model and the functions you need on the compatibility list before buying. Insta360 warns that supported functions vary by phone and can change as phone makers update devices.

Flow connects to the Insta360 app over Bluetooth. The product page distinguishes a magnetic phone mount sold separately from the magnetic clamp listed in its hardware specifications, and the included items can vary by kit. Check the contents of the particular bundle rather than assuming every magnetic accessory is included.
How do setup, storage, and accessories compare?
Pocket 3 setup and storage
DJI says Pocket 3 requires activation through DJI Mimo on first use. Check DJI’s Mimo download page for current app requirements and compatible devices. Pocket 3 has no built-in storage; DJI says it supports microSD cards up to 1 TB and lists compatible card models on its support specifications. Plan for a compatible card before recording. DJI also identifies DJI Mic 2 compatibility; verify the transmitter and bundle details if you need an external microphone.

Flow setup and kit contents
Flow needs a compatible phone, its clamp, and Bluetooth/app setup. Its integrated selfie stick and tripod may reduce the need to pack separate support gear, but the phone remains essential to recording. Since compatibility and kit contents can vary, check both the phone list and selected package before purchase.

- You want a separate camera rather than a phone accessory.
- You value its 1-inch sensor, integrated rotatable screen, and DJI-listed video modes.
- You are willing to activate it with DJI Mimo and carry a compatible microSD card.
Buy the Insta360 Flow if…
- You want to keep using your phone as the camera.
- You value phone-based tracking plus a built-in selfie stick and tripod.
- Your exact phone model, case dimensions, and intended camera-app features are supported.
Before choosing, check the current phone compatibility and feature list for Flow, the exact accessories included in its kit, or the microSD requirement and first-use activation for Pocket 3. These practical differences matter more than comparing the products as though both were standalone cameras.
