The timing may offer useful context. If the message appeared after a programming update, or after a receiver was installed or activated, those events match the situations DIRECTV associates with 772. If neither happened, the code-specific page still recommends the same first step: reset the receiver. Could the number actually be 771, 775, or 920?
Check the exact number shown on screen before following troubleshooting instructions. DIRECTV assigns different causes and support steps to these codes, so instructions for another number are not a substitute for the 772 reset.
