What separates direct-drive and belt-driven wheels?
These terms describe how a wheelbase delivers force feedback to the steering wheel. A direct-drive design connects the steering wheel to the motor, while a belt-driven design transmits the motor’s force through a belt. That distinction can help frame a purchase, but it does not establish how two specific products compare in strength, detail, noise, or durability. Those claims require model-specific specifications or independent testing.
For Xbox buyers, the mechanism is only one part of the decision. The exact console-compatible model or bundle, supported game, included pedals and mounting hardware, and published force-feedback figures all matter. Manufacturer specifications describe their products; they are not independent evidence that one drive type is universally superior.

Why Xbox compatibility needs a model-level check
A wheelbase being direct drive does not by itself mean it works with Xbox. MOZA says most of its bases are officially supported only on Windows PCs; its Xbox R3 bundle uses an Xbox-licensed ESX wheel. Its FAQ also says an Xbox-licensed wheel can be paired with a MOZA base for Xbox use, so check the exact configuration rather than assuming a base alone is sufficient. See MOZA’s wheelbase FAQs.
Compatibility also depends on the game. Logitech makes G923 support conditional on the game supporting its force-feedback wheel. Before checkout, verify the manufacturer’s compatibility information for your console generation and the specific game you play. A broad “Xbox compatible” label is not a substitute for checking those details.

How to choose between the available options
Choose a direct-drive model when its configuration and output fit
If you want a direct-drive wheel, compare the torque figure and how the manufacturer describes it. MOZA identifies the R3’s 3.9 N·m as peak torque. Logitech lists 11 N·m for the PRO Racing Wheel. These vendor figures do not, by themselves, establish a controlled, like-for-like performance comparison; do not treat peak and differently specified torque values as interchangeable.
MOZA says its R3’s direct-drive motor provides more precision and road feel than gear- or belt-driven systems. That is MOZA’s product claim, not an independent comparative test. Consider it alongside the exact bundle contents, console support, and your own requirements.

Consider a non-direct-drive wheel without assuming it is belt-driven
The G923 provides a useful Xbox-compatible comparison point: Logitech lists dual-motor force feedback, TRUEFORCE, and 900 degrees of rotation. However, the cited official page does not call it belt-driven. It should not be treated as verified evidence about belt-drive performance or as a confirmed belt-driven competitor.
Check the whole setup, not just the motor
- Console and game: Confirm support for your Xbox generation and the particular game.
- Exact wheel configuration: Check that the listed model or bundle includes whatever Xbox-licensed component is required; do not infer compatibility from the base alone.
- Feedback specifications: Compare values only when their definitions and measurement basis are clear.
- Bundle contents: Confirm whether the wheel, pedals, clamp, mounting hardware, and any shifter you need are included or sold separately.
- Mounting: Check whether the included hardware works with your desk or whether your setup requires a separate stand or cockpit.
- Price and availability: Check current listings for your region and the exact variant; the cited product information does not establish current prices or stock.
Is direct drive worth choosing for Xbox?
It can be, if you want a direct-drive setup and can verify Xbox and game support for the exact bundle. The MOZA R3 Xbox bundle is a documented entry point with a stated 3.9 N·m peak rating and listed pedals and table clamp; the Logitech PRO Racing Wheel’s Xbox/PC variant is a higher-output direct-drive option with 11 N·m listed by Logitech. These are different product tiers, not proof that direct drive is the best purchase for every player.

If you are specifically deciding between direct drive and belt drive, first identify a belt-driven Xbox model whose manufacturer confirms both the drive mechanism and Xbox support. Without that verified comparison, choosing by drive label alone risks comparing unlike products—or buying hardware that does not work with your console or game.
