Detective of the Dead is an upcoming single-player adventure from Actrio Studio, set in the Mexican afterworld Mictlan. Steam currently lists its release as planned for 2027—not an Early Access launch this year—and says the game is not yet available. There is no exact release date.
When does Detective of the Dead come out?
Actrio Studio’s Steam listing gives Detective of the Dead a planned 2027 release. It does not provide a day or month, and the game is currently marked as not yet available. The listing offers options to wishlist the game and request access to a playtest. Those options do not mean the full game is currently playable. Check the current Steam listing for changes to its schedule or availability.
The Steam Community hub has an “Early Access Game” banner and developer posts about showcases and playtests. That banner is not evidence that the game is currently available in Early Access: the current store listing says otherwise. For availability, the store page is the more direct indicator.
What do you do in Detective of the Dead?
You play Alejandro, a detective who has recently been killed and must find out who murdered him while trying to protect his loved ones and Día de los Muertos. The story unfolds in Mictlan, the Mexican afterworld. Actrio Studio describes the game as an adventure combining cozy cooking and investigation.
Investigate clues and question people
Progress involves conversations, clues, puzzles, and mini-games. Alejandro’s grandmother runs a taqueria, and cooking tacos undercover is one way to draw information from people. The premise pairs a familiar food-service routine with detective work rather than presenting the game as a conventional action-focused investigation.

Xolo, Alejandro’s magical dog companion, can track suspects, find items, and help reach places that are otherwise remote. The companion is part of both the investigation and exploration.
Make choices that affect the ending
The Steam listing says decisions lead to multiple endings. It also lists an in-game hint system, intended to help players who get stuck on the investigation or its puzzles.

How long is it, and what is its format?
Actrio Studio estimates about 7–10 hours for the main quest and side quests; this is a developer estimate, not independently measured playtime. The developer also lists 15 hand-drawn key NPCs, alongside additional characters for side quests.

Which platforms are planned?
The Steam page lists PC/Steam and Steam Deck. It describes Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox versions as planned, not confirmed releases. Platform plans can change, so check the developer’s listing for the latest status before making plans around a particular console.

What languages and audio are listed?
Steam’s language table lists English, German, Spanish (Spain), French, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese for the interface and subtitles. The table does not list full audio in any language. The page’s prose separately mentions English voice-over and voice-over in other languages as planned; that should not be read as confirmation that those audio tracks are already included.

Actrio Studio posts about public showcases and playtest participation on the Steam Community hub. These posts indicate community activity, but do not establish that Early Access is currently open or that a commercial partner program exists.
