Before the second Infinity Castle film, remember this: the Hashira Training Arc ends with Muzan attacking the Demon Slayer Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki sacrificing himself, and Tanjiro and the surviving fighters being pulled into Muzan’s shifting fortress. Nezuko is still a demon, but her resistance to sunlight has made her the key to Muzan’s plan. The Corps’ remaining Hashira and swordsmen are now separated throughout the Infinity Castle, where the final battle has begun.
Where the story stands before the next movie
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is entering the second chapter of a three-film adaptation of the Infinity Castle finale. Infinity Castle I is the direct continuation of the fourth television season, the Hashira Training Arc. The official franchise description presents it as the first installment of a trilogy in which Tanjiro and the Hashira enter Muzan Kibutsuji’s stronghold and begin the final battle.
The second film does not have an announced release date as of October 20, 2026. Crunchyroll president and CEO Rahul Purini has said that the trilogy is actively in production, that the studio wants to release the remaining films as quickly as possible, and that two films remain after the first installment’s place in the story is counted. Any date circulating elsewhere should therefore be treated as speculation unless it comes from an official announcement.
The immediate cliffhanger
Muzan’s confrontation with Kagaya Ubuyashiki triggers the decisive transition from preparation to war. Kagaya sacrifices himself, and the Corps continues without its leader. Muzan then draws Tanjiro and the Demon Slayers into the Infinity Castle, a seemingly endless dimensional fortress whose rooms and corridors shift constantly.

Inside, the fighters are split into pairs and individual battles while Muzan retreats toward the center to recover. Outside the labyrinth, Kiriya, Kuina and Kanata Ubuyashiki use Kasugai crows and changing maps to coordinate the operation. The second movie will continue this divided campaign rather than reset the story with a new mission.
The core premise in one minute
Tanjiro Kamado returns home to find his family slaughtered. His sister Nezuko survives, but she has been transformed into a demon. Instead of accepting the usual demon instinct to consume humans, Nezuko resists it and protects people. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps to find a cure for her while fighting the demon responsible and the network of demons created by him.
That relationship remains the emotional and strategic center of the finale. Nezuko’s ability to retain compassion proves that demonhood does not automatically erase every trace of humanity. Later, her unusual relationship with sunlight becomes a threat to Muzan’s entire species: he wants to absorb or exploit a sunlight-resistant demon so that he can overcome the weakness that has kept him hidden for centuries.

How the Corps, demons and ranks work
The Demon Slayer Corps and the Hashira
The Demon Slayer Corps is the organized force that hunts demons. Its elite swordsmen are the Hashira, each associated with a combat style and a specific title such as Water, Flame or Sound Hashira. Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, is the first senior slayer to recognize Tanjiro’s determination and helps direct him toward Corps training.
Tanjiro’s principal companions are Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Their contrasting personalities and techniques matter because the final battles are designed around cooperation: Upper Rank demons are too powerful for ordinary slayers to defeat in isolation.
Demon abilities and weaknesses
- Demons possess strength, speed and regenerative healing far beyond human limits.
- Most survive by feeding on humans, although Nezuko is an exceptional case.
- Sunlight is normally fatal, and wisteria is a major deterrent and weapon against them.
- Demon Slayers generally kill demons by cutting off the head with a Nichirin sword.
Muzan Kibutsuji is the first demon and the source of the blood that creates others. His strongest servants are the Twelve Kizuki, divided into Upper and Lower ranks. The Upper Ranks have survived for generations and represent the level of enemy the Corps must now overcome inside the castle.

Upper Rank enemies already defeated
By the end of the pre-Infinity Castle story, the heroes have defeated Rui, Enmu, Gyutaro, Daki, Gyokko and Hantengu. Rui and Enmu are important earlier opponents; Gyutaro and Daki are the paired Upper Rank Six demons from the Entertainment District; Gyokko and Hantengu are the Upper Rank opponents from Swordsmith Village. Their defeats reduce Muzan’s established elite, but they also show how costly every victory has been.

1. Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc
After discovering Nezuko’s transformation, Tanjiro trains to become a Demon Slayer and begins traveling with her in a protective box. His immediate goals are to locate a cure, understand the demon hierarchy and find a path toward Muzan. He learns the Corps’ rules, develops his swordsmanship and meets allies who will remain important through the final conflict.
The arc establishes the series’ central question: can a demon choose not to become a predator? Nezuko’s conduct gives Tanjiro a reason to challenge the Corps’ assumptions, while Giyu’s intervention gives the siblings a chance to prove that their case is different.
2. Mugen Train Arc
Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke join Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train. They confront Enmu, a demon whose attack turns the train and its passengers into a battlefield. The arc demonstrates that even a Hashira-level victory can demand an extreme price: Rengoku dies after the battle, leaving Tanjiro and the others with a sharper understanding of what the Upper Ranks represent.
The story’s theatrical adaptation became a major commercial milestone. The official Demon Slayer franchise site reported 41.35 million worldwide attendees and 51.7 billion yen for the Mugen Train film.
3. Entertainment District Arc
Tanjiro’s group works with Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui in the Entertainment District. Their opponents are Gyutaro and Daki, siblings who share the Upper Rank Six position. The fight requires simultaneous action against both demons and pushes Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke beyond their normal limits.

This arc establishes a rule that remains vital in Infinity Castle: an Upper Rank battle is a coordinated operation, not a series of simple one-on-one duels. Tengen’s injuries and retirement from active Hashira duty also reduce the Corps’ available elite strength before the final campaign.
4. Swordsmith Village Arc
In Swordsmith Village, Tanjiro and his allies face Upper Rank Five Gyokko and Upper Rank Four Hantengu. The battles force the Corps to defend the village that supplies its Nichirin weapons while the demons use elaborate abilities and multiple forms to divide the defenders’ attention.
Nezuko’s importance to Muzan’s objective becomes much clearer here. Her unusual relationship with sunlight suggests a way for Muzan to remove the defining weakness of demons. From this point forward, protecting Nezuko is not only a family matter; it is a matter of preventing Muzan from completing his transformation.
5. Hashira Training Arc
With the Corps expecting a final confrontation, the Demon Slayers undergo intensive training under the Hashira. The sessions improve stamina, sword technique and the ability of ordinary members to survive beside the elite fighters. Tanjiro’s progress is measured against the Hashira’s standards, while the Corps prepares for a battle in which Muzan will choose the ground and timing.
The arc ends without a conventional mission victory. Muzan makes his move, Kagaya sacrifices himself, and the Corps is thrown into the Infinity Castle. That is the exact point from which the movie trilogy’s final campaign proceeds.
What Nezuko’s status means now
Nezuko has not simply become human again at the point where Infinity Castle begins. She remains a demon whose behavior differs from the norm: she does not feed on humans and repeatedly protects them. Her resistance to sunlight is the decisive change that makes her valuable to Muzan.

Muzan’s objective is to obtain a demon who can survive the sun, thereby eliminating the weakness that prevents him from ruling openly during daylight. Nezuko’s condition therefore creates two simultaneous stakes: Tanjiro must protect his sister, and the Corps must stop Muzan from using her biology to perfect himself.

Who is still fighting, and who is gone?
The surviving fighters enter Infinity Castle after the loss of major allies across earlier arcs. Kyojuro Rengoku is dead, and Tengen Uzui no longer serves as an active front-line Hashira after the Entertainment District battle. The remaining Hashira and Corps members are divided by Muzan’s fortress rather than gathered in one formation.
The known defeated members of the Twelve Kizuki are Rui, Enmu, Gyutaro, Daki, Gyokko and Hantengu. The remaining Upper Rank demons are the unresolved elite threats at the heart of the final war. Because the Infinity Castle battles are split among different rooms, the next release may follow several simultaneous matchups rather than one linear team fight.
Infinity Castle: the details to keep in mind
The fortress changes the rules
The Infinity Castle is not a normal building. Its shifting architecture can separate allies, create sudden changes in distance and force fighters into isolated confrontations. The Corps cannot rely on a stable map or a single route to Muzan.
Muzan is recovering at the center
Netflix’s synopsis describes Muzan retreating toward the castle’s center to heal while the Demon Slayers are scattered into pairings and solo fights. Reaching him is therefore a navigation problem as well as a combat problem: every group must survive its own encounter before the Corps can concentrate on the leader.

Kiriya, Kuina and Kanata Ubuyashiki assume the command role after Kagaya’s sacrifice. Their use of Kasugai crows and constantly updated maps provides the fighters with the only organized way to track a fortress that keeps changing.

Reading the source manga
The original manga ran from February 2016 to May 2020 and consists of 23 volumes. Shueisha’s official franchise information says it has published more than 150 million units. A complete collected edition is the most reliable way to compare the film adaptation with the original sequence, but choose an edition by three practical criteria:
- Volume completeness: confirm that all 23 volumes are included if you want the entire story rather than only the pre-final arcs.
- Translation and format: check the language, print size, digital availability and whether the edition preserves the original reading direction.
- Regional availability: publication dates, box sets and digital licenses differ by country.
If your goal is only to remember the setup for the next film, the anime through Hashira Training is sufficient. If you want to know every outcome before the trilogy reaches it, the manga is the complete source and will necessarily spoil the remaining films.

How large is the Infinity Castle release?
The first Infinity Castle film opened at an estimated $70 million in North America, according to Comscore figures reported by the Associated Press in 2025. The same report gave it a $132.1 million worldwide anime-opening weekend and a $177.8 million global total. Those figures describe the first film’s theatrical performance, not a forecast for the second movie.
The scale reflects the franchise’s established audience: the manga has exceeded 150 million published units, and the Mugen Train film drew the official attendance and revenue totals noted above. None of those figures establishes a release date for Infinity Castle II.
