Dell documents three 13.3-inch display choices for the XPS 13 9380: FHD non-touch, FHD touch and UHD touch. The documented FHD touchscreen has a typical luminance of 400 nits, according to Dell’s XPS 13 9380 setup guide. UHD offers greater resolution, but its sharper image comes with a likely battery-life trade-off compared with FHD. Battery figures from one configuration should not be treated as applying to every panel.

Ports and adapters
The 9380 is USB-C centered. Dell’s documentation lists two Thunderbolt 3-capable USB-C ports and a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, as well as a microSD card reader and headset jack. Dell says the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port supports two-way power supply between devices. A USB-C-to-USB-A 3.0 adapter ships with the computer, according to Dell’s ports and connectors documentation. For buyers who still use several USB-A accessories, that adapter helps, but frequent desk use may call for a USB-C or Thunderbolt dock.
Keyboard, webcam and portability
The 9380’s compact chassis is a strength for carrying between home, work and travel. Dell moved the webcam above the screen on this generation, addressing the awkward low-angle placement found on some earlier XPS 13 models. The trade-off is that a small laptop has less room for ports and internal expansion than a larger machine; check the exact configuration and serviceability before buying used.

Which XPS 13 2019 has the best battery life?
There is no single endurance figure for every XPS 13 9380: Dell explicitly cautions that operating time varies with conditions and can fall significantly under power-intensive use. WIRED reported about 12 hours for an XPS 13 9380 with a Core i7-8565U and 16 GB of memory during a looping HD-video test in 2019. That is a result for that configuration and test, not a promise for other 9380 units, UHD models or used batteries.
For a used purchase, panel resolution and battery condition matter. An FHD model is the more sensible starting point if endurance is a priority; a UHD screen is preferable when resolution matters more and the buyer accepts the likely runtime compromise. Dell’s setup guide also gives approximately four hours to charge with the computer off. The guide’s approximately 300 discharge/charge cycles refers to the coin-cell specification section, not an estimate of whole-laptop runtime or a guarantee about the main battery.

What should you check before buying a used or refurbished XPS 13?
Do not rely on a listing title alone. Component suppliers can vary, and the exact display, drive and memory may differ between units. Notebookcheck notes that manufacturers may use different suppliers for displays, drives or memory; verify the actual specifications for the particular laptop being sold.
- Model and CPU: Confirm whether it is a 9380 or 7390, then check the processor name and core count. A six-core configuration points to the later 7390 refresh, not the 9380.
- Screen: Confirm FHD versus UHD and whether the panel is touch-enabled. These differences affect sharpness, power use and price.
- Memory and SSD: Check installed capacity and the exact drive in the listing or system information. Do not assume components from another 9380 are identical.
- Battery: Ask about battery health or inspect its reported condition in person. A historical video-loop test cannot establish the health of an individual used battery.
- Ports and condition: Test USB-C and Thunderbolt functionality, charging, the microSD reader, headset jack, keyboard, webcam and screen. Confirm that any included adapter is actually present.
- Seller terms: Compare the price with the unit’s actual configuration, cosmetic condition, return window and warranty. Current used and refurbished prices vary by seller and condition.
Is the Dell XPS 13 2019 still worth buying?
It can be a good value if you want a small Windows laptop for ordinary productivity and can verify the hardware and battery condition before purchase. For the 9380, prioritize an FHD configuration if portability and battery life outweigh maximum resolution. Choose the 7390 only when its specific processor configuration meets your needs; the model name alone does not establish that it has six cores. If modern gaming, easy upgrades or a broad selection of built-in ports is central to your use, this thin ultraportable is a poor fit.
