Bright Data, Oxylabs and IPRoyal are the most credible Decodo alternatives to evaluate first. Each serves a different requirement: Bright Data emphasizes broad network coverage with verification requirements, Oxylabs combines proxy products with a Web Scraper API, and IPRoyal offers both traffic-based and per-proxy models. SOAX is often listed as an alternative, but its current official product and pricing terms were not verified here. Decodo (formerly Smartproxy) remains a useful baseline rather than a universal winner.

The right replacement depends on proxy type, IP source, geographic precision, session behavior, traffic volume, billing unit, onboarding and whether you need raw proxy access or a managed data-collection API.

What counts as a Decodo alternative?

Decodo provides residential, datacenter, ISP and mobile proxies. An alternative should be compared against the specific Decodo product you use, not against the brand name alone. Residential IPs, datacenter addresses, ISP or static addresses and mobile-network IPs have different availability, stability, targeting and pricing characteristics.

Also separate two jobs that are frequently mixed together:

  • Proxy infrastructure: you receive endpoints or credentials and operate the crawler, browser or HTTP client.
  • Managed data gathering: a scraper API or unblocker handles more of the fetching, rendering and anti-bot work and returns structured or captured content.

Oxylabs explicitly lists both proxy services and a Web Scraper API. IPRoyal lists a Web Unblocker alongside proxy products. Those managed options may be more appropriate than changing proxy pools when your real requirement is extracted data.

Shortlist: the main Decodo competitors

Provider Products established in current material Where it may fit Important qualification
Decodo Residential, datacenter, ISP and mobile proxies Baseline for comparing proxy type, targeting, sessions and trial terms Vendor-published prices and offers are volatile; examples were checked 2026-09-29.
Bright Data Datacenter, static residential, residential and mobile networks Projects needing several network categories and detailed onboarding/compliance processes KYC is required before residential or mobile use; the process can include a call and verification.
Oxylabs Residential, ISP, mobile and datacenter proxies; Web Scraper API Teams deciding between direct proxy control and a managed scraping service The legal terms establish that these services are offered, not that Oxylabs outperforms other vendors.

Decodo as the price and feature baseline

Decodo’s buying page gives these starting examples, checked 2026-09-29: residential at $2 per GB, datacenter at $0.02 per IP and ISP at $0.27 per GB. The page presents separate ISP and mobile subscription examples elsewhere, so do not treat those three figures as a complete price list or as interchangeable units.

Decodo also states a three-day/100 MB trial for each type and a 14-day money-back option subject to its terms. Verify eligibility, current rates and the exact product before relying on those offers. A per-GB residential quote cannot be compared directly with a per-IP datacenter quote without modeling your workload.

Bright Data: broad coverage with more onboarding

Bright Data lists datacenter, static residential, residential and mobile network types. That breadth can help when one project needs several IP sources—for example, datacenter addresses for low-cost public pages and residential or mobile addresses for targets that treat hosting-provider traffic differently.

When Bright Data is a good candidate

  • You need to switch among multiple network categories under one vendor.
  • Your organization can complete identity and business checks before production.
  • Procurement needs a documented compliance process.

The onboarding trade-off

Bright Data states that KYC is required before residential or mobile network use. Its process can include a call and verification. Treat that as a schedule and privacy consideration, not merely a formality: obtain approval before committing a launch date, and confirm which team members or legal entities must be verified.

Oxylabs: compare raw proxies with a managed scraper

Oxylabs lists residential, ISP, mobile and datacenter services and also offers a Web Scraper API. Its legal conditions describe the services contractually; that wording confirms the product scope but does not provide an independent success-rate or speed ranking.

Choose direct proxies when

  • You already operate the browser, HTTP client, retries and parsing pipeline.
  • You need custom headers, cookies, session persistence or application-specific routing.
  • Your team wants to measure and tune each request itself.

Consider the Web Scraper API when

  • The output is gathered page data rather than proxy access as an end in itself.
  • Rendering, blocking and extraction maintenance would cost more than a managed endpoint.
  • You want to compare total cost per successful page, not only proxy traffic.

Ask for the API’s request, rendering, concurrency and output limits in writing. A managed API priced per request cannot be compared with a proxy pool priced per gigabyte unless you calculate the same successful workload.

IPRoyal: traffic billing, proxy billing and fair-use rules

IPRoyal says residential and rotating mobile products are billed per GB, while datacenter and ISP products are subject to fair-use conditions. Its FAQ dated 2026-04-10 states a 30 GB daily limit for dedicated mobile. A separate help article says each datacenter or ISP order has a shared allowance of 100 GB per proxy per 30-day cycle: IPRoyal’s fair-use policy.

These limits are product-specific and can change. Confirm whether an allowance is shared across an order, how overages are handled, and whether unused traffic rolls over before you estimate monthly capacity.

When IPRoyal may fit

  • You want to compare a GB-priced residential or rotating-mobile pool with a per-proxy datacenter or ISP order.
  • Your workload can stay within documented fair-use limits.
  • You need a Web Unblocker as well as conventional proxy endpoints.

How to compare costs without misleading yourself

Use one representative workload and record the same measurements for every vendor. Include:

  1. Proxy category and IP source: residential, datacenter, ISP/static or mobile.
  2. Required countries, cities or ASN-level targeting.
  3. Rotating, sticky-session or static-session duration.
  4. Requests, transferred bytes, concurrency and expected retries.
  5. The billing unit: GB, IP, request, subscription or another minimum.
  6. Fair-use, speed, concurrency and daily or monthly limits.
  7. KYC, account approval, support and any SLA requirement.
  8. Whether a scraper API or unblocker could replace your in-house browser and parser.

Then calculate cost per successful target result, including retries and failed pages. Do not rank vendors by network-size claims: providers and comparison pages use different definitions, and no independently harmonized performance ranking is established here.

Decision guide by use case

Lowest apparent price

Start with the billing unit, not the headline number. Decodo’s $0.02-per-IP datacenter example and $2-per-GB residential example solve different problems. Compare an equivalent monthly request and byte volume, then add minimums and fair-use limits.

Many proxy categories

Bright Data is a logical candidate because it lists datacenter, static residential, residential and mobile networks. Confirm KYC timing before selecting it for a launch-critical project.

Less scraping infrastructure to maintain

Compare Oxylabs’ Web Scraper API or IPRoyal’s Web Unblocker with the engineering cost of managing browsers, retries, parsers and anti-bot responses yourself.

Static or long-lived identities

Prioritize ISP/static or dedicated products and verify session duration, replacement rules and fair-use allowances. A rotating residential plan is not a substitute for a stable identity.

Mobile-network targeting

Compare mobile pool behavior, geography, rotation and any daily cap. IPRoyal’s dedicated-mobile FAQ limit is 30 GB per day as of 2026-04-10; confirm the current terms.

A practical migration plan from Decodo

  1. Inventory the current workload. Record proxy type, locations, sticky-session requirements, average bytes, concurrency, retry rate and blocked-result rate.
  2. Choose two comparable pilots. Keep the target URLs, headers, session length and parser constant so provider differences are not confused with code changes.
  3. Confirm account requirements. Ask about KYC, acceptable use, authentication, support response and production approval before moving traffic.
  4. Model the invoice. Apply the vendor’s billing unit, minimum purchase, fair-use allowance and overage rule to your measured traffic.
  5. Run a controlled cutover. Send a small percentage of jobs through the candidate, monitor successful pages and status codes, then increase gradually.
  6. Keep a rollback path. Preserve Decodo credentials and routing configuration until the replacement has passed a full billing cycle and peak workload.

Troubleshooting common selection failures

The replacement is cheaper per unit but costs more overall

Check whether you compared GB with IPs, ignored minimums or counted retries as free. Recalculate using cost per successful result and the same request volume.

Residential traffic is unavailable after signup

For Bright Data, verify that KYC has completed; residential and mobile use requires that process. For every provider, confirm that the purchased product includes the requested country and city granularity.

Sessions break during a workflow

Check whether the plan provides rotating, sticky or static sessions and how long a session can persist. A pool that rotates on every request cannot preserve a login flow without an appropriate session option.

Traffic stops before month-end

Inspect fair-use and daily limits. IPRoyal documents a 100 GB-per-proxy shared allowance for datacenter/ISP orders per 30-day cycle and a 30 GB daily dedicated-mobile limit in the cited materials; verify current terms and your order scope.

A scraper API produces different results from your browser

Compare rendering mode, JavaScript execution, cookies, geography, headers and extraction rules. A managed API is a different product from a raw proxy and should be tested against the exact output you need.

Legal and operational checks

Proxy availability does not establish that a particular collection activity is lawful. Review the target site’s terms, applicable privacy and computer-access laws, contractual restrictions and your organization’s policies. Obtain provider approval for sensitive use cases, protect credentials, rate-limit requests and retain only the data you are authorized to collect.

ScreenshotNeo is a different kind of alternative

ScreenshotNeo is not a Decodo replacement or a proxy network. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Try it first when your actual requirement is a clean visual capture rather than raw proxy infrastructure: one GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, and it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture.

For a direct capture, use the documented endpoint:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for options such as full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, device presets, custom headers and cookies, JavaScript, waits, blocking, PDFs, caching, bulk jobs and signed webhooks. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Decodo still called Smartproxy?

Decodo is the current name; Smartproxy is the historic name readers may still encounter in older comparisons.

Can I compare a residential proxy price directly with a datacenter price?

No. Residential examples are commonly traffic-priced while datacenter offers may be priced per IP. Convert both to the same measured workload, including retries and limits.

Does SOAX belong on a final shortlist?

It can remain a candidate, but verify its current official products, prices and conditions before committing because those terms were not established here.

Do proxy providers guarantee that a use case is legal?

No. You remain responsible for target-site terms, applicable law, privacy obligations and your organization’s policies.

The Bottom Line

Choose by workload, not brand popularity: Bright Data for broad network categories and formal onboarding, Oxylabs when a managed scraper may replace in-house collection, IPRoyal when its billing and fair-use model fit, and Decodo when its type-specific trial and pricing baseline match your needs. Verify every current term before switching.
