Debian 9.5 “Stretch” is available as an archived release from Debian’s official distribution archive: https://archive.debian.org/debian/. It is no longer supported by the Debian Project, so use a current supported release for a new general-purpose installation unless you specifically need Stretch for legacy compatibility.
Where to download Debian 9.5 Stretch
Debian directs users seeking older distributions to its Distribution Archives page. Debian releases are organized by codename under the archive’s dists/ directory; Stretch is Debian 9. The archive itself is at https://archive.debian.org/debian/.
Debian’s 9.5 announcement said installation images would be available from the regular download locations at the time of release. That historical note is not a guarantee that a current standard mirror still carries Stretch, nor does it identify one image type or architecture as right for every machine. Use the archive guidance to locate the files appropriate to your hardware and installation needs.
What Debian 9.5 means
Debian 9, codenamed Stretch, first released on June 17, 2017. Version 9.5 was its fifth point update, released on July 14, 2018. It incorporated security corrections and fixes for serious problems, including updates to some packages already included in Debian 9.

The Debian Project announcement clarified that a point release “does not constitute a new version of Debian 9 but only updates some of the packages included.” In other words, 9.5 is an updated Debian 9 release, not a separate major version. Debian 9.13, released on July 18, 2020, was the final point update.
Is Debian Stretch still supported?
No. Debian’s Stretch information page says security updates were discontinued on July 6, 2020. Debian lists the regular end of life as July 18, 2020, and the LTS period ended July 1, 2022. Debian’s current release index classifies Stretch as archived.

Debian describes a typical release lifecycle as three years of full support followed by two years of LTS. Stretch’s LTS coverage applied to i386, amd64, armel, armhf, and arm64 architectures. The release index also lists third-party paid extended LTS through June 30, 2027; that is not Debian Project support, and the listing does not mean every package or architecture is covered.
For a new installation that will connect to the internet or handle everyday work, choose a Debian release that is currently supported. A legacy system may still require Stretch for compatibility, but its archived status means you should treat it as an unsupported operating system.

Check the archive’s integrity
Do not rely on an unattributed third-party download mirror. Debian explains that archive Release files are digitally signed and include checksums for Packages files; the signature is stored in Release.gpg. Follow Debian’s release and archive guidance to verify signatures and checksums for the files you obtain. A successful download alone does not establish that the files are authentic or intact.
Installing or upgrading an old system
The 9.5 announcement said existing Debian 9 installations could be upgraded by pointing the package manager at a Debian mirror. That release-era note does not guarantee that a normal current mirror still serves Stretch, and upgrading to 9.5 would not make the system supported today. If you must preserve a Stretch installation, use Debian’s archive instructions and verify the archived package data before making changes; for a supported system, plan a move to a currently maintained Debian release.
