DayZ does not have universal crossplay. Steam PC and PlayStation players cannot join Xbox players, and Steam cannot connect to Xbox servers. The one current PC-to-Xbox exception is the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC edition, which runs the Xbox build through Xbox Play Anywhere and can join Xbox friends on Keyboard & Mouse servers. It does not connect PlayStation players.
If a friend or server is missing, first identify the exact game build, then check input restrictions, update and branch parity, maintenance, account access, and Battleye status. The sequence below separates an impossible platform combination from a problem you can actually fix.

What DayZ crossplay supports
“PC” is not a single DayZ ecosystem. The store and service running the game determine which servers and friends are reachable. Bohemia Interactive’s current FAQ describes this arrangement as follows (information checked October 19, 2026):

Therefore, a failed Steam-to-Xbox invite is expected behavior, not a networking fault. Buying the game on another storefront does not merge the ecosystems. A PC player who wants to join an Xbox friend must be using the Microsoft Store/Game Pass Xbox build rather than the Steam edition.

Identify the build before changing settings
Ask every player which storefront or console launches DayZ. Do not rely on the words “PC,” “Xbox,” or “current version”; two PCs can be on different ecosystems, and two apparently identical consoles can be targeting different server types.
Steam PC
A Steam installation is part of the Steam ecosystem. It can join compatible Steam servers, but it cannot join Xbox servers or a friend playing the Xbox build from the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft Store or Game Pass for PC
This edition uses the Xbox build under Xbox Play Anywhere. It is the limited route for a PC player to play with an Xbox-console friend. The server must permit Keyboard & Mouse play; selecting a controller-only Xbox server will not make the PC and console sessions equivalent.
Xbox console
Confirm that the console player is launching the Xbox edition and that the intended server accepts the input method being used. An Xbox friend’s presence does not make a Steam server visible to that player.
PlayStation
PlayStation players remain in the PlayStation ecosystem. This applies to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions: neither can join Xbox, Microsoft Store/Xbox PC, or Steam PC sessions.

Use the symptom to choose the right branch
The most useful first distinction is whether the problem affects one friend or every server. Compare the two situations before reinstalling anything.

Fix DayZ crossplay problems in order

Confirm a supported ecosystem pairing
Write down each player’s exact build: Steam, PlayStation, Xbox console, or Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC Xbox build. If the pair is Steam-to-Xbox, PlayStation-to-Xbox, Steam-to-PlayStation, or any other unsupported combination, stop here: no router setting, reinstall, or Battleye filter can create crossplay that the game does not provide. For PC-to-Xbox, replace the Steam installation with the Microsoft Store/Game Pass Xbox build and target a Keyboard & Mouse server.

Match the server’s input restriction
The Microsoft Store PC build can access Keyboard & Mouse servers. An Xbox friend may be looking at a controller-only server, while the PC player is searching for a server that accepts keyboard and mouse input. Select a server whose restriction matches both players. If the server browser labels the server as controller-only, it is not the correct target for the PC/Xbox combination described by Bohemia Interactive.

Install the current update, then restart completely
Allow the platform to finish downloading and installing the current DayZ update. Fully quit the game rather than leaving it suspended, restart the platform if necessary, launch DayZ again, and refresh the server browser. Bohemia Interactive specifically recommends restarting and manually checking for updates when servers are not visible. Both players should perform this process; one outdated client can prevent a join even when the other player is current.

Rule out scheduled maintenance
Bohemia Interactive’s multiplayer support identifies scheduled maintenance as normally occurring on Wednesdays at 08:00 GMT+1. During that window, an empty or incomplete list can be normal. Wait until maintenance ends, restart DayZ, check for updates again, and refresh the list. If the problem continues outside the window, continue with the remaining checks instead of assuming that every outage is maintenance.

Put Steam players on the same branch
Steam provides separate Stable and Experimental branches. To inspect the setting, open Steam Library > right-click DayZ > Properties > BETAs. Both players and the target server must use compatible branch/build combinations. Most servers run the latest Stable version, so an Experimental client normally cannot join a Stable server, and a Stable client cannot join an Experimental server unless that server is specifically running the matching branch.
After changing the branch, let Steam complete the download, restart DayZ, and refresh the server list. Do not compare only the displayed game name; compare the selected branch and the installed build.

Check account ownership and service access
Launch DayZ with the account that owns the relevant edition or has the active subscription entitlement. Confirm that Steam or Xbox services are online and that the account has not been switched during troubleshooting. A PC user who owns only the Steam edition cannot use that entitlement as the Microsoft Store/Xbox build.
Voice has an additional Microsoft requirement. On the Microsoft Store version, VOIP is tied to Microsoft’s age-verification process. If the account is not verified for the required age, voice chat is blocked even when gameplay access works. Verify the account and its privacy or communication permissions before treating a silent teammate as a crossplay failure.

Separate Battleye from platform compatibility
Battleye global bans are administered by Battleye, not by Bohemia Interactive. A Battleye ban or anti-cheat refusal can prevent a connection to protected servers, but it does not explain why Steam cannot join Xbox or why PlayStation cannot join Xbox. The server browser may offer a non-Battleye filter for testing; changing that filter does not convert one ecosystem into another and does not overturn a global ban.

Test a different server
Join a second server that matches the same ecosystem, branch, update and input requirements. If other servers work, the original server is probably full, password-protected, whitelist-controlled, offline, restarting, or affected by its provider. Check that provider’s live status and connection instructions. Generic DayZ support pages cannot establish the live status of a particular named community server.
Platform-specific checks
Steam PC checklist
- Confirm the friend is also on Steam, unless the friend is on Xbox and you intentionally switched to the Microsoft Store/Xbox PC build.
- Open Steam Library > DayZ > Properties > BETAs and compare Stable or Experimental with the target server.
- Let Steam finish updates before launching; restart DayZ after a branch or update change.
- Refresh the browser and test an official server before diagnosing a community server.
Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC checklist
- Confirm that the installed edition is the Xbox Play Anywhere build, not Steam DayZ.
- Use a Keyboard & Mouse server when joining an Xbox-console friend.
- Check the Microsoft account that owns the game or subscription and its online-service status.
- Verify age and communication permissions if VOIP is unavailable.
Xbox checklist
- Confirm the console has completed the DayZ update and that the game was fully quit and relaunched.
- When inviting a PC friend, confirm that friend is using the Microsoft Store/Game Pass Xbox build and that the chosen server accepts Keyboard & Mouse.
- If the server list is empty, check the Wednesday 08:00 GMT+1 maintenance window before changing account settings.
PlayStation checklist
- Confirm the PlayStation system and DayZ installation are updated, then restart the game.
- Invite only PlayStation players for a supported cross-platform expectation; Xbox and PC storefront builds are separate ecosystems.
- If one community server is absent while others appear, investigate that server’s password, whitelist, capacity or provider status.
When a friend’s server is invisible
Use this short decision path:
- Ask which storefront or console launches DayZ for each person.
- Eliminate unsupported pairings before checking network settings.
- For Microsoft Store PC and Xbox, confirm the server is Keyboard & Mouse rather than controller-only.
- Compare updates and, for Steam, Stable versus Experimental.
- Fully quit, update, relaunch and refresh both browsers.
- Check whether the entire list is empty, which points toward maintenance or a service problem.
- Search for the server by its exact name and check whether it requires a password or whitelist.
- Join a different compatible server to distinguish a server-specific fault from a platform-wide fault.
An invitation does not bypass these rules. A friend can appear online while the two accounts still have no mutually reachable server because their builds, branches or input permissions differ.

A version warning means the client and server are not currently compatible; it does not by itself identify the cause. The common causes are an unfinished update, a restart that has not occurred, or a Stable/Experimental mismatch on Steam.
- Check for the game update on both players’ platforms.
- Wait for installation to finish; do not launch while a queued download is pending.
- Fully quit and relaunch DayZ on both sides.
- On Steam, compare Properties > BETAs and select the branch used by the server.
- Refresh the server browser after the relaunch.
- If only one server rejects the client, test another server before reinstalling the game.
Most servers use the latest version, but a community server can be temporarily behind during an update. In that case, the server operator must bring the server to a compatible build; changing unrelated client settings will not solve it.
What to collect before contacting support
If the supported pairing, updates, branch, account and server checks do not resolve the issue, record details while the error is visible:
- Platform and exact storefront for every player.
- Whether the PC installation is Steam or the Microsoft Store/Game Pass Xbox build.
- Console model and game version shown by the platform.
- Steam branch selection, if applicable.
- Exact server name, whether it is official or community-run, and whether other servers appear.
- Input restriction shown for the server.
- The full error text, including any Battleye message.
- Date and time, including your time zone, so maintenance or an outage can be compared.
- Whether gameplay works on another compatible server and whether the problem affects voice only or the connection itself.
For a Battleye global-ban question, use Battleye’s support route because Battleye administers those bans. For a server-specific outage, contact the community server provider. For persistent platform, update or account problems after the checks above, use Bohemia Interactive’s support channels with the collected details.

Bottom line
DayZ crossplay is limited by design: Steam and PlayStation are separate from Xbox. Only the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC Xbox build provides a PC-to-Xbox path, and that path requires a compatible Keyboard & Mouse server. Once the pairing is supported, fix visibility problems by checking input restrictions, updates, maintenance, Steam branch parity, account and VOIP entitlement, Battleye status, and finally the individual server.
