Short answer: The DapuStor Xlenstor2 X2900P 800GB is a specialist U.2 enterprise SSD built for extreme write workloads. Its 100 DWPD endurance, SLC NAND and roughly 7 GB/s throughput make it a credible Optane-class option for logging and database infrastructure, but ServeTheHome’s comparison found Intel Optane clearly better for low-queue-depth reads. Treat the X2900P as an endurance and sustained-write product—not a general-purpose capacity drive.
What the X2900P 800GB is
The X2900P is a 15 mm U.2 SSD using PCIe 4.0 x4 and NVMe 1.4a. DapuStor builds it with 3D SLC NAND branded XL-FLASH, storing one bit per cell. DapuStor describes the Xlenstor2 family as an enterprise SCM (storage-class memory) SSD line for data centers, cloud services, caching, acceleration, AI training, big-data analysis and metadata processing.

What 100 DWPD means in practice
DWPD means drive writes per day: the amount of host data the entire rated capacity can absorb every day during the stated endurance period. Using the nominal 800 GB capacity, 100 DWPD works out to approximately 80 TB of host writes per day. Sustained at that rate for five years (1,825 days), the arithmetic total is about 146 PB.
That calculation is a way to understand the rating, not a promise that every workload can write 80 TB daily without qualification. Endurance accounting can depend on write amplification, spare area, firmware conditions and the vendor’s warranty policy. Check DapuStor’s current endurance and warranty terms when qualifying the drive for a production purchase.

Why SLC enables the rating
SLC stores one bit in each NAND cell, so the controller has only two charge states to distinguish. Compared with TLC or QLC, that sacrifices storage density and raises the cost per usable gigabyte, but it reduces charge-management complexity and generally enables higher write endurance, lower latency and more predictable sustained writes. The 800 GB capacity is therefore deliberate: it targets write-heavy roles rather than bulk data storage.
How fast is the X2900P?
DapuStor rates the 800 GB model at 7,300 MB/s sequential read, 7,000 MB/s sequential write, 1.75 million 4K random-read IOPS and 1.08 million 4K random-write IOPS. StorageReview has published peak figures of 7,500 MB/s read and 7,000 MB/s write for the same capacity. The difference in read numbers reflects the distinction between a vendor specification and a review’s measured or reported peak; neither guarantees the same result in every server.

Independent workload behavior
ServeTheHome tested the drive with CrystalDiskMark, ATTO, AS SSD, sequential transfers, 4K random I/O, latency tests and application workloads. In its same-system comparison, the X2900P narrowly won a 4K random-write Q1T1 test, while Intel Optane led on low-queue-depth reads. ServeTheHome reported Optane read latency at roughly 40–60% of the DapuStor result in that test, although both were substantially below TLC and QLC NAND drives.
The review also found unusually consistent back-to-back ATTO results when changing the test set from 1 GB to 8 GB. That consistency is relevant to log and metadata workloads, where a drive may receive a continuous stream of small writes instead of a short burst followed by idle time.

X2900P versus Intel Optane P5800X
The X2900P can replace Optane in some infrastructure roles, but “alternative” does not mean identical behavior. The available comparison supports a strong write and bandwidth case for DapuStor, while Optane retains an advantage in low-queue-depth read latency.
| Comparison point | DapuStor X2900P 800GB | Intel Optane P5800X |
|---|---|---|
| Sequential read | 7,300 MB/s official; StorageReview reported 7,500 MB/s peak | StorageReview reported 7,200 MB/s peak |
| Sequential write | 7,000 MB/s official and in StorageReview’s peak figures | StorageReview reported 6,100 MB/s peak |
| 4K random write | 1,080K IOPS official; small Q1T1 win in ServeTheHome’s comparison | Competitive, but behind DapuStor in that cited Q1T1 result |
| Low-queue-depth read latency | Higher than Optane in ServeTheHome’s test | About 40–60% of DapuStor’s read latency in that test |
| Endurance class | 100 DWPD for five years | 100 DWPD class and five-year warranty, according to StorageReview |
| Capacity and form factor | 800 GB, U.2 15 mm | Exact capacity and form-factor details depend on the P5800X model and platform; they were not established in the cited comparison |

Where DapuStor is the better fit
- Applications dominated by sustained random writes, such as database redo logs, write-ahead logs and metadata journals.
- Servers that can use a U.2 15 mm PCIe 4.0 drive and provide adequate airflow.
- Deployments where 7 GB/s-class sequential bandwidth and 100 DWPD endurance matter more than the very lowest read latency.
Where Optane remains preferable
- Read-heavy, latency-sensitive services operating at low queue depths.
- Systems whose software is tuned specifically for Optane’s latency characteristics.
- Procurement environments where Intel qualification, support or supply is already established.
Is it suitable for database logs or a ZFS SLOG?
Database logs
The X2900P’s SLC media, high write rating and consistent test behavior align well with write-ahead logs, redo logs and transaction journals. The relevant qualification is latency under the database’s actual queue depth and block size: a headline 4K IOPS number does not replace testing synchronous commit latency, queue buildup and recovery behavior on the target controller and operating system.

ZFS SLOG
A SLOG device handles synchronous-write intent records; it is not a general read cache and does not accelerate every ZFS workload. The X2900P is technically attractive for a SLOG because endurance and steady write latency are more important than capacity. Before deployment, verify that the server’s U.2 backplane exposes the drive as a supported NVMe device, that power-loss protection is present and recognized, and that the drive remains within its thermal limits under sustained synchronous writes. The 800 GB capacity is far more than many SLOG designs need, so the purchase only makes sense when its endurance and latency advantages justify the cost.
Platform, cooling and procurement checks
- Confirm the physical bay: the drive is a 15 mm U.2 device, not an M.2 module. Check the carrier, connector and backplane documentation.
- Confirm PCIe connectivity: the host must provide a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe path. A PCIe 3.0 link will limit throughput, while a shared or bifurcated slot can affect consistency.
- Check airflow: enterprise U.2 SSDs can sustain high power draw during long writes. Validate chassis airflow and monitor temperature rather than assuming a desktop adapter is adequate.
- Validate firmware and power-loss behavior: check the current firmware, protection features and operating-system compatibility with DapuStor or the reseller before production use.
- Test the real workload: measure synchronous write latency, mixed I/O, queue-depth behavior and recovery on the exact server, controller and filesystem.
- Confirm supply and support: current stock, regional warranty handling and replacement logistics were not established by the published performance material and require a live enterprise-reseller check.
Advantages and trade-offs
Advantages
- 100 DWPD for five years, an unusually high endurance class for an 800 GB SSD.
- SLC media designed for lower latency and steadier sustained writes than denser NAND.
- Approximately 7.3–7.5 GB/s read and 7.0 GB/s write in official or published peak figures.
- Strong random-write behavior in the cited low-queue-depth comparison.
- Standard U.2 15 mm packaging for compatible enterprise servers.
Trade-offs
- 800 GB is small for primary storage and expensive capacity compared with TLC or QLC.
- Optane was faster for low-queue-depth reads in ServeTheHome’s test.
- U.2 backplane support, airflow and firmware qualification are mandatory; a consumer desktop may not provide them.
- Current pricing, availability and regional support cannot be inferred from the published specifications.
Who should buy the X2900P 800GB?
Choose it when a workload can exploit very high write endurance and stable write performance—especially database logs, transaction journals, metadata services, caching tiers or other write-intensive infrastructure—and your server is qualified for a PCIe 4.0 U.2 SSD. Choose Optane instead when the dominant requirement is minimum low-queue-depth read latency or when Intel’s platform qualification and support are more valuable than DapuStor’s write and bandwidth profile. For ordinary file, backup or media storage, a high-capacity TLC SSD is usually a more rational design than either specialist drive.
