1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf your Dacast stream stays live in its preview but repeatedly drops on YouTube, focus first on the Simulcast destination, YouTube ingest settings, and the connection between Dacast and YouTube. If the Dacast preview drops too, start with the encoder-to-Dacast path. The quickest way to narrow the cause is to watch both checkpoints during the same test.
How Dacast sends your stream to YouTube
In a Dacast Simulcast setup, your encoder sends a live feed to a Dacast encoder channel; Dacast then forwards that existing channel to YouTube. Dacast remains the origin, and the YouTube destination uses YouTube’s ingest URL and stream key. This means a stream can work at one checkpoint and fail at the next.
Dacast documents Simulcast for encoder live channels, not HLS-ingest or VOD Rebroadcast channels, and the account needs Simulcast credits. Its API documentation also notes that a recently added or removed destination may take a short time to appear in the destination list. Dacast Simulcast documentation
Find where the stream is dropping
- Start a test stream and watch the Dacast preview and YouTube Live Control Room at the same time.
- If the Dacast preview drops too, investigate the encoder-to-Dacast connection: current ingest URL, encoder output and local network.
- If Dacast stays live while YouTube goes offline, investigate the Simulcast destination: YouTube ingest URL and key, channel eligibility, and available Simulcast credits.
- Note the time of each interruption and any status or stream-health message. Those details help distinguish a configuration problem from an encoder, network, or platform-policy interruption.

Check Dacast’s ingest URL first if the problem began after a destination change
Dacast warns that creating a multistream destination changes the ingest destination URL. If disconnections began after adding or changing YouTube Simulcast, open the affected channel’s current Encoder Setup and use the URL displayed there. Replace any old value saved in your encoder; do not copy an ingest address from a different channel or assume every region uses the same host. Dacast’s API reference says the returned ingest host varies by region. Dacast Create Stream reference
After updating the encoder, run another test and compare the Dacast preview with YouTube Live Control Room. The relevant value is the current URL for that channel, not a previously saved address.

Verify the YouTube destination and stream key
Confirm that the Simulcast destination points to the intended YouTube live event and uses its current ingest URL and stream key. A credential or URL problem is especially plausible when YouTube reports a startup or authentication error.
If YouTube reports an encoder startup error, its troubleshooting guidance recommends getting a fresh stream key in Live Control Room and updating the saved encoder or destination configuration. Refreshing the key is not a universal fix for a stream that starts successfully and disconnects later; for midstream drops, continue checking capacity, encoder health, and the network. Also confirm that the Dacast channel is eligible for Simulcast and that the account has credits available. Dacast documents a 403 response when credits run out. If a destination was just added or removed and the list appears stale or empty, wait briefly and check again. Dacast Simulcast documentation
Measure upload headroom and compare encoder settings
Streaming capacity depends on outgoing upload bandwidth, not just download speed. YouTube recommends that total outgoing bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth with 20% headroom. Measure upload under conditions similar to the event, including competing traffic on a shared office or home connection. YouTube notes that a connectivity disruption can break a stream and that shared traffic can limit an individual connection. If capacity is marginal, reduce encoder bitrate or resolution, or reduce other network traffic. YouTube streaming tips

Check encoder and source health
- Update the encoder software and review its output status, error messages, and CPU load during the drop.
- Check whether a local recording is clean and continuous. A damaged or interrupted local recording can point toward the source or encoder rather than the Simulcast handoff.
- Compare what the encoder reports with the Dacast preview. YouTube says poor encoder output points toward a source or encoder issue; when encoder output looks healthy, investigate outbound internet instead.
- Try another encoder only as a diagnostic if local evidence points to the current encoder. Changing software without evidence does not establish or fix the cause.
YouTube troubleshooting guidance
Rule out YouTube policy interruptions
A technically healthy stream can still be interrupted if YouTube enforces copyright or Community Guidelines rules. Check YouTube Studio for notices, warnings, or strikes around the time of the interruption. YouTube says a live stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated when third-party content remains after a warning, or when a relevant strike applies. YouTube copyright guidance
Use viewer reports to narrow a network issue
Ask whether reports come from viewers on several independent networks or mainly from people sharing one network. YouTube distinguishes widespread errors across different viewer networks—which may point toward encoder trouble—from errors confined to one shared network, which can implicate that network. Viewer reports are a clue, not a substitute for encoder and stream-health checks. YouTube live streaming troubleshooting
Prevent repeat interruptions before the next event
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event and start it at least 15 minutes before airtime, as YouTube recommends.
- Check the Dacast preview and YouTube destination before the audience arrives.
- Test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, and verify the expected recovery path.
- Confirm local archive files are growing, check access from mobile and channel/watch pages, and monitor audio and video quality during the stream.
- Test with representative motion and audio, and watch stream-health messages rather than relying only on a successful connection at startup.
- After ending the event on YouTube, stop the encoder.
Or let it run in the cloud
