On September 15, 2026, Cypress announced a Cypress Cloud MCP update that adds compact responses by default, tools for retrieving specs and tests from a run, status filters, more granular timing and run metadata, and deeper links into accessibility and UI Coverage reports. Cypress says existing connected users do not need to change their setup.
What changed in the September update
Cypress Cloud MCP connects an AI coding assistant to Cypress Cloud run data. The update gives the assistant more ways to inspect test results while making the initial tool responses more compact.
- Compact responses by default: MCP tools initially return a compact response. An agent can request additional fields when a prompt needs them. Cypress says this is intended to provide detail where it matters rather than returning every field on every call. The announcement publishes no token-savings or performance benchmark.
cypress_get_specs: Retrieves per-spec details for a run.cypress_get_tests: Retrieves individual test results within a run.- Status filters: Narrow results by run, spec, or test status.
- More timing and run context: Durations are available at run, spec, test, and individual-attempt levels. Run data now also includes
commit_authorandci_build_id. - Deeper report links: Accessibility and UI Coverage tools now surface links to report views and rule failures.
Cypress’s release index also lists cypress_get_specs and cypress_get_tests as September 15 additions.
What the new detail is useful for
Follow a run down to the tests
The new spec and test retrieval tools let an assistant move from a run-level question to the specs that ran and the outcomes of individual tests. For example, Cypress suggests asking: “For the latest passing run on main, give me a release report: who authored the commit, which specs ran, and which tests were skipped.” The new tools and fields make that sort of report possible when the assistant is authorized to access the relevant project.
Filter and investigate results
Status filters can reduce a result set to the runs, specs, or tests relevant to a question. Durations at four levels help distinguish a slow overall run from a slow spec, test, or individual attempt. The commit author and CI build ID add source-control and build context, while the deeper accessibility and UI Coverage links lead into supporting report views and rule failures. These are capabilities described by Cypress; the announcement does not publish independent outcome measurements.
Availability and whether you need to set it up again
Cypress announced the changes on September 15, 2026, and says they are live for users already connected: “Nothing to update on your end. This is live for everyone already connected.” Cloud MCP reached general availability on May 20, 2026. Cypress documentation says it is included with every Cypress Cloud plan at no additional cost.
For organizations setting up the integration, Cypress’s GA release describes enabling it from the organization’s Integrations page and connecting an AI client to https://mcp.cypress.io/mcp. Cypress recommends OAuth; personal access tokens remain an option for clients that require them. Access still depends on connecting and authorizing the client for the relevant Cypress Cloud project.
Where ScreenshotNeo fits alongside Cypress Cloud MCP
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a Cypress Cloud run-data integration, so it does not replace the Cypress update described above. It is an alternative to try first when the separate problem is capturing a website for visual evidence: its clean-shot workflow accepts consent banners and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. It also does not bill bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, or cache hits. Its MCP server offers AI agents the tools take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
