A Pokémon leaker claimed that the original Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire will arrive on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. That date and release have not been confirmed in the report. The concern behind the headline is conditional: if Generation 3 comes next and Generation 2 is left out, fans could wait longer—or possibly never get—an official Switch-family release of Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
What the Ruby and Sapphire rumor actually says
In an October 2, 2026 feature, ComicBook.com writer Justin Joy attributed the claim to the Pokémon leaker account @Light_88_: the original Game Boy Advance versions of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire would come to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. The feature calls this a leak, not an announcement. It does not provide a link to the account’s original post, establish independent corroboration, or verify the platform or date. Read the ComicBook.com feature.
Joy also refers to earlier rumors and an official Japanese Pokémon social-media account as suggesting or teasing Generation 3 as the next generation to be revived. The feature does not identify or quote that post, so it does not establish what the post said or whether it confirms a release order. The available report supports only this careful answer to “Will Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire come to Nintendo Switch?”: a leaker reportedly said they would, but the claim is unconfirmed.
Why a Generation 2 omission would disappoint fans
The “huge mistake” is Joy’s opinion about a possible release sequence, not evidence of a decision by The Pokémon Company. His concern is that a revival moving from Generation 1 directly to Generation 3 could leave the Game Boy Color games—Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal—without a modern release on the Switch family. The feature also allows that Johto could still arrive later; it does not establish that the games have been skipped.

What made Gold, Silver, and Crystal distinct
Joy points to Johto’s 100 new Pokémon and several additions that shaped the games: a real-time clock, breeding, held items, berries, and the Dark and Steel types. After the Johto League, players could return to Kanto, and Crystal offered a playable female protagonist. These details explain why Joy argues that Generation 2 deserves a place in a modern library, while his preference for the games remains personal rather than a measured fan consensus.
Why the rumored sequence invites comparison with Generation 3
Ruby and Sapphire are Game Boy Advance titles, while Gold, Silver, and Crystal belong to the earlier Game Boy Color generation. Joy also brings up Pokémon Emerald and its Battle Frontier, but doubts that feature would be included in a possible Ruby and Sapphire rerelease. Neither the release order nor any rerelease’s contents are confirmed by the rumor.

Why official access matters to the argument
Joy’s practical case for modern releases is that older handhelds and physical games have become costly, making an official modern option more convenient for some players. The feature gives no price figures or named price source, so the cost point is qualitative, not a quantified comparison. Original Game Boy Advance cartridges are a separate way to play the original games; they are not the rumored Switch edition.
