Coral Island Update 1.4, titled “Kids Grow Up,” has been announced but does not yet have a precise public release date. Stairway Games says it will launch in winter 2026 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Until a day-and-time announcement appears, you cannot reliably access the new systems by changing a setting or starting a particular quest.
When the update is released, install the platform patch first. Cooking filters and fishing bobbers have published access steps; the announcement does not yet document a quest, season, relationship level, or save-file requirement for the family features. It also does not confirm whether a new save is required, so do not delete or abandon an existing farm on the assumption that you must begin again.
When does Coral Island 1.4 come out?
As of October 19, 2026, Stairway Games has announced Update 1.4 but has not published an exact release day. The October 16 announcement describes the window as winter 2026 and says the update arrives alongside Coral Island on Nintendo Switch 2. “Winter” is a release window, not a confirmed date or time, and the announcement does not establish whether all platforms will receive their patches simultaneously.

What to do before the launch notice
- Keep the game installed on the platform where you play.
- Watch for the final release announcement and the platform’s update notice rather than trying to unlock 1.4 content early.
- Do not create a new save solely because the update is numbered 1.4; the published announcement does not say that existing saves are incompatible.
- Expect the complete feature list and any platform-specific rollout details to be clarified with the launch-day patch information.
What “Kids Grow Up” adds
Update 1.4 expands family life, town stories, cooking, fishing, and presentation. The following features are the ones Stairway Games has publicly described; additional improvements are expected, but a complete launch-day list has not yet been published.
Four stages of childhood
Children now progress through four stated life stages: baby, toddler, school-age child, and teenager. The announcement does not specify the amount of in-game time each stage lasts, the conditions that advance a child, or whether a particular season or relationship milestone is involved. Those details should not be assumed from the stage names alone.
Interests and personalities
Children can develop interests such as music, sports, baking, or gaming. These interests shape their personalities and their experiences as teenagers. The announcement does not publish a selection menu, a schedule for discovering interests, or a way to reroll them, so there is no documented setup step beyond having the update installed and reaching the relevant family content.

Spouses receive parent-related dialogue, interactions, and family cutscenes. No individual quest chain, relationship threshold, required house upgrade, or other trigger has been announced. If a spouse’s new dialogue does not appear immediately after updating, that absence alone does not prove the installation failed; the trigger conditions have not been documented.

Children in Starlet Town grow up too
The progression is not limited to the player’s household. Children in Starlet Town, including Archie, also grow into teenagers and receive new stories and interactions. The announcement does not say whether these town events follow the player’s family timeline, a fixed calendar, or separate conditions.
A Tedak Siten-inspired ceremony
Update 1.4 includes a cutscene inspired by Tedak Siten, a Javanese tradition celebrating a child’s first steps onto the ground. Stairway Games has described the inspiration and the purpose of the scene, but not its exact trigger, date, or whether it can be replayed.
Cooking and presentation improvements
The update adds an updated Cooking interface with filters for recipe buffs and NPC gift preferences. Lighting enhancements and other quality-of-life improvements are also announced. A fuller list of those improvements is promised for launch day, so the current announcement should not be treated as complete patch notes.
Which platforms receive 1.4?
Nintendo Switch 2 is explicitly announced as arriving with Update 1.4. The announcement also names controller-vibration or haptic support for six platform configurations. Naming a controller feature is not the same as publishing a final rollout schedule, and the announcement does not state that Switch 2 is exclusive or that owners of another edition must purchase the game again.

If you already own Coral Island on one of these platforms, the announcement does not say that you must buy a separate 1.4 edition. It likewise does not promise that every platform receives every feature at exactly the same moment. Confirm the store listing and patch notes for your own platform when the final notice is published.
How to access the updated Cooking systems
Cooking is the clearest system with a documented in-game access method. After the 1.4 patch is installed, use the updated Cooking interface and apply its filters.
- Open the Cooking interface in your game.
- Choose the filter based on the result you need: recipe buffs or an NPC’s gift preferences.
- Review the filtered recipes and select the dish you want to prepare.
The filters are for sorting the recipe list. The announcement does not state that they unlock recipes, change ingredient costs, or guarantee that an NPC will accept a gift. If a recipe is absent, check whether the patch has installed and whether that recipe is already available in your save; 1.4’s announcement does not publish a new-recipe unlock table.
Using the buff filter
Choose the buff-oriented filter when you are selecting food for its gameplay effect rather than for a particular character. The announcement confirms the filter’s purpose but does not list every buff category or explain how long an effect lasts. Those values should come from the in-game descriptions or final patch notes, not from assumptions about the update title.

Using the NPC gift-preference filter
Choose the NPC-preference filter when you are preparing a gift for a specific character. It is intended to narrow the recipe list according to gift preferences. The announcement does not say whether the filter shows liked items only, distinguishes stronger preferences, or accounts for ingredients you currently possess.
How fishing bobbers work in 1.4
Fishing bobbers are accessed in a two-part sequence: first unlock them through Fishing Mastery, then purchase designs at the Beach Shack. Stairway Games states this sequence directly: “Unlock them through Fishing Mastery, then buy a variety of fun designs at the Beach Shack!”
- Progress Fishing Mastery until the bobber option becomes unlocked.
- Visit the Beach Shack after the unlock is available.
- Buy from the variety of bobber designs offered there.
The announcement does not give a mastery-point total, a specific skill level, a price, or an equipment-screen path. It also does not say whether every design is available immediately after the first unlock. Do not treat a bobber purchase as an automatic fishing-power upgrade; the published description identifies designs and the unlock route, not a change to catch rates or fishing statistics.
How to access family content
The family systems become relevant when your save contains the relationships and children that the feature describes, but no formal prerequisite list has been released. The announcement does not identify a quest name, minimum relationship level, season, number of in-game days, house requirement, or child-specific task.

If you already have a family
Install the update and continue with the save that contains your household. Look for the newly described child stages, spouse parent dialogue, interactions, and family cutscenes as your existing game progresses. Because no trigger is documented, an immediate scene is not guaranteed, and there is no published step that forces one to start.
If you do not yet have children
There is no announced shortcut or one-time activation switch for the “Kids Grow Up” systems. The feature description explains what happens after children are part of the game, but it does not publish the relationship or event route that creates that situation. Follow the normal family progression available in your save and use the final patch notes for any newly documented requirements.
For Starlet Town children
Archie and other town children are included in the growth-and-story expansion. Their teenage stories may not be tied to the player’s household, but the announcement does not specify the calendar or trigger. If a town character has not changed immediately after updating, continue playing only after checking the final notes for timing information; do not infer a missing installation from one character’s age.
For the Tedak Siten-inspired cutscene
The ceremony is described as celebrating a child’s first steps onto the ground. No activation menu, quest marker, date, or replay option has been published. The safest expectation is that the scene is tied to family progression, while recognizing that its exact trigger remains unconfirmed.
Do you need a new save for Update 1.4?
No published statement requires a new save, but no statement guarantees that every feature appears immediately in every existing save either. The evidence supports a cautious answer: do not assume a new save is mandatory, and do not assume every family event is retroactive without checking the final patch notes.
When the update arrives, preserve your existing save and test it first. If cooking filters or fishing content are present but family content is not, that difference may reflect an undisclosed progression trigger rather than a broken patch. Start a separate test save only if you want to investigate without changing your main farm; there is no announced requirement to discard the original.
