Use your browser’s Print command and choose its PDF destination—Save as PDF in Chrome. Then open the saved file and inspect the Devanagari text. A successful save does not guarantee that every Hindi character will display correctly.
Save the Hindi article as a PDF
- Open the news article and wait until its visible text has finished loading.
- Open the browser’s Print dialog.
- Select the browser’s PDF destination. In Chrome, choose Save as PDF.
- Save the file, open it in a PDF viewer, and inspect headings and body text for boxes, missing letters, or changed-looking characters.
Google documents Chrome’s PDF workflow and identifies Save as PDF as a print destination. Neither source promises identical results for every website, browser version, operating system, or font: Chrome PDF help and Chrome print settings.
If Hindi characters are broken in the PDF
First compare the article as it appears in the browser with the saved PDF. If the page itself already shows broken characters, the problem is not limited to the PDF output. If the browser page looks right but the PDF does not, compare conversion routes:
- If you printed through a system PDF driver, try the browser’s own PDF destination, such as Chrome’s Save as PDF.
- Try saving from a second browser and inspect that PDF too.
- For more conversion controls, try Acrobat’s webpage-to-PDF settings described below.
These are diagnostic comparisons, not guaranteed fixes. The available evidence does not establish one universal cause or a browser that always renders Hindi correctly. A historical Mozilla Support report describes a Firefox Save as PDF problem affecting certain Unicode characters, but one report does not establish a current, general Firefox defect: Mozilla Support discussion.

Use Acrobat when you need encoding and font controls
Adobe Acrobat documents advanced webpage conversion options, including Default Encoding and Language Specific Font Settings. To reach them, Adobe’s instructions say: “To change web page conversion settings from Acrobat, go to All tools > Create a PDF > Web page, then select Advanced settings to customize conversion and layout options.” See Adobe Acrobat’s webpage conversion help.
These settings give you additional controls to try; Adobe does not promise they will correct every site’s Devanagari output. Save a new copy and verify the result in a PDF viewer.

What to include when asking for help
If the characters remain broken, gather the details that distinguish a page-rendering issue from a PDF-conversion issue:
- The article URL.
- Your browser and version, plus your operating system.
- Whether Hindi characters are broken on the webpage, only in the PDF, or in both.
- Which PDF route you used: the browser’s built-in destination, a system print driver, or Acrobat.
- A description of what is wrong, such as boxes, missing text, or visibly altered glyphs.
