Remedy calls it both a sequel and a new entry point, so the story continues in the same world without requiring the games to have identical approaches.
Is CONTROL Resonant a sequel to Control?
Yes. Remedy describes CONTROL Resonant as a sequel set in the same world as Control, with the Faden siblings central to both games. Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen calls them “siblings, each standing on their own feet, with their own attitude and approach to the world.” Remedy also says Resonant is designed as a new entry point, so newcomers can start here while returning players will recognize the ongoing family connection.
The central shift is perspective: the original follows Jesse Faden, while Resonant makes her brother Dylan the playable lead. Jesse is missing during the crisis that drives the new story.
What’s different between Control and CONTROL Resonant?
| Area | Control | CONTROL Resonant |
|---|---|---|
| Playable lead | Jesse Faden | Dylan Faden; Jesse is his missing sister during the new crisis. |
| Main setting | The Oldest House | Paranaturally altered Manhattan, divided into large, distinct zones. |
| Exploration | A direct level-design comparison is not established in the cited official material. | Expansive zones contain optional activities, hidden encounters, and discoveries; Remedy says it is not open-world. |
| Combat emphasis | Xbox Wire characterizes the original as centered on paranatural gunplay. | Xbox Wire describes a melee-action emphasis; Dylan fights with the shapeshifting Aberrant and supernatural abilities. |
| Story relationship | Begins the Faden story with Jesse. | Continues in the shared world, shifting the perspective to Dylan and the siblings. |
Do you play as Jesse or Dylan?
You play as Dylan Faden. Remedy identifies him as the playable protagonist, while Jesse is his sister and is missing during the events described in the launch announcement. That makes Resonant a continuation of the Faden story, but not a direct return to Jesse as the lead.

Is CONTROL Resonant open world?
No. Remedy Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov says the game is not open-world. Instead, its story guides players through large, distinct zones, with room to pursue optional activities, hidden encounters, and discoveries. This means Manhattan is designed for substantial exploration, but the available description does not support treating the game as one seamless open-world map.
Is the combat still like Control?
It has supernatural action in common with Control, but the emphasis changes. Xbox Wire characterizes the original as focused on paranatural gunplay and Resonant as a melee-action game. Dylan wields the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon, alongside supernatural abilities. The distinction is a change in combat direction, not a claim that every mechanic differs or that the sequel has no ranged or other abilities.

When did CONTROL Resonant release, and where can you play it?
Remedy announced a worldwide release date of September 24, 2026. As of October 4, 2026, Remedy lists the game as out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW. Remedy says Mac via Steam and the App Store will follow later in 2026; that is a future availability statement, not a claim that the Mac version is already out.
For players considering the story commitment, Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha estimates 25 to 35 hours for the PS5 main story, with more time for completionists. This is Remedy’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time.

- The action RPG sequel to Control, developed and published by Remedy Entertainment.
What do the two games have in common?
Both belong to Remedy’s shared world and put the Faden siblings at the center of the story. The sequel retains the series’ supernatural premise while changing who the player controls and how the action is framed. Remedy says the entries can stand on their own, but the connection between Jesse and Dylan gives returning players a clear point of continuity.
