Spoilers for Control and Control: Resonant follow. Resonant makes Dylan Faden the playable lead, years after the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) contained him and after Jesse Faden cleansed him of the Hiss. A new resonance is now warping Manhattan, while the Hiss and Mold remain active threats. Dylan fights with supernatural abilities and the shapeshifting Aberrant weapon as he searches for redemption and his missing sister Jesse.
The reported finale has Dylan destroy the Hedron linked to his mind, then wake from his long confinement when Jesse takes his place. Jesse is alive but comatose in the Oldest House, leaving the siblings’ story unresolved rather than neatly closed. The ending also leaves the Board, Dr. Darling, other Hedrons and the wider multiverse in play.

What is Control: Resonant about?
Control: Resonant is a third-person, open-ended action RPG set after the events of the first Control. Dylan Faden is the central character: the brother Jesse spent the original game trying to find inside the FBC’s impossible headquarters, the Oldest House. Remedy describes the sequel as “the other half” of that sibling story.

That crisis is centered on Manhattan. A new form of resonance is reshaping the city’s architecture, gravity and physical rules. The FBC must contain this force while still dealing with the Hiss and the Mold. Dylan is deployed as a field operative, guided by FBC handler Zoe De Vera, and must determine how his own unstable connection to the phenomenon can be used without destroying him.
How the FBC and the Faden siblings fit together
The FBC
The Federal Bureau of Control is a secret government agency that investigates and contains altered objects, supernatural events and extradimensional entities. Its facilities are not ordinary offices: the Oldest House changes internally, and the Bureau’s work routinely crosses into other realities.
In the first game, Jesse entered the Oldest House searching for Dylan and became the FBC’s director during the Hiss outbreak. In Resonant, the Bureau is no longer simply the setting for Jesse’s investigation. It is an organization trying to turn Dylan into an emergency response asset while Manhattan is being rewritten around it.
Dylan Faden
Dylan is both protagonist and containment subject. The FBC’s years of experimentation and isolation shaped his anger, guilt and desire for control. His motivation is not limited to saving the city: Remedy characterizes his journey as a search for redemption and for Jesse, alongside an attempt to understand why chaos responds to him.
His history also explains why the sequel’s powers are personal rather than merely equipment upgrades. Dylan’s abilities are tied to resonance, altered states and the mental space called the Gap. Progression therefore changes how he fights and how he relates to the forces inside him.
Jesse Faden
Jesse remains essential even though Dylan is playable. She is the first game’s protagonist and FBC director, the person who found Dylan and cleansed him during the Oldest House disaster. Her disappearance gives Dylan a concrete objective in Manhattan, while her earlier actions make his survival possible.
What happened before Resonant?
- The Ordinary incident: A supernatural event in the town of Ordinary brought Dylan and Jesse into contact with forces the FBC later investigated.
- Dylan’s containment: The Bureau took Dylan as a child and confined him after the tragedy, treating him as a dangerous paranormal case rather than allowing him a normal life.
- The Hiss invasion: During the first game, the Hiss possessed people throughout the Oldest House, including Dylan.
- Jesse becomes director: Jesse entered the Oldest House looking for her brother, fought through the outbreak and assumed leadership of the FBC.
- Dylan is cleansed: Jesse removed the Hiss influence from Dylan, but he fell into a coma and remained under FBC care for years.
- The Manhattan emergency: A new resonance began warping reality. The FBC awakened or deployed Dylan because his unusual connection to these forces made him one of its few viable defenders.
This sequence is why the sequel can treat Dylan as both a newcomer to the player and a central figure in the series’ mythology. His past is established by the first game, but his point of view is new.

What is happening in Manhattan?
Manhattan in Resonant is not a normal open-world city. Buildings, streets and gravity are being reshaped by a mysterious cosmic force. The FBC must contain a new resonance while the Hiss and Mold continue to exist in the same broader crisis.
The three forces should not be treated as interchangeable:
- The Hiss is the hostile resonance that invaded the Oldest House and possessed people, including Dylan.
- The Mold is another dangerous paranormal presence already known to the FBC and still active in Manhattan.
- The new resonance is the sequel’s central destabilizing force. Its relationship to the Hiss, Mold and Dylan is a major story question rather than a fully explained fact.
The result is a setting where containment is also navigation. Areas can change in ways that affect traversal, combat and the interpretation of what Dylan sees. The city’s instability mirrors his uncertain identity and makes his personal history part of the environmental mystery.

Dylan’s powers, the Aberrant and progression
Supernatural abilities
Dylan’s abilities evolve as he advances. Combat is built around combining powers with close-range attacks, rather than relying only on the telekinesis-and-firearm foundation associated with Jesse’s campaign. The exact ability mix can be shaped around a player’s preferred style.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Aberrant weapon
The Aberrant is a shapeshifting weapon with distinct forms. A heavy two-handed hammer emphasizes force and impact, while swift dual blades favor speed and repeated melee strikes. Switching forms is part of the combat decision-making rather than a cosmetic change.
Because the weapon is supernatural, its forms fit the game’s broader question of whether Dylan is controlling the anomaly or allowing it to control him. Weapon choice matters most when combined with abilities and talents, not when treated as a single best form for every encounter.
Momentum, executions and melee
The systems deep dive describes a momentum-based loop:
- Melee hits restore combat ability.
- Abilities can stun enemies and set them up for executions.
- Executions temporarily increase melee damage.
This creates a cycle in which powers open an opportunity, an execution restores momentum and the resulting damage boost encourages continued aggression. Players who retreat constantly may lose the advantages the system gives to controlled pressure.
The Gap
The Gap is a dreamlike space connected to Dylan’s psyche. It is where players shape builds around three pillars:
- Supernatural combat abilities that determine how Dylan controls space and disables enemies.
- Aberrant weapon forms that define melee range, speed and impact.
- Talents that specialize the resulting combination for different playstyles.
Resonant bosses are integrated into story progression and grant unique abilities. Some choices branch toward different playstyles, so progression is not simply a linear list of stronger statistics.
How missions and exploration work
Dylan’s handler, Zoe De Vera, helps structure the campaign. The game separates its activity into two principal quest types:
Dylan’s Journey
These are the main story missions. They follow Dylan’s search for Jesse, his investigation of the Manhattan anomaly and his attempt to understand the connection between his mind and the forces around him.
World Quests
World Quests expand the setting beyond the critical path. They provide additional encounters and context for the FBC’s containment work.

Optional encounters and altered items
Optional encounters test builds outside the main missions. Altered-item discoveries connect exploration to the series’ tradition of objects whose impossible properties have to be investigated, contained or exploited.
The open-ended structure means players can develop a build and pursue side content without treating every activity as a required step in the central plot.
Control and Resonant: what has changed?
| Category | Control | Control: Resonant |
|---|---|---|
| Playable lead | Jesse Faden | Dylan Faden |
| Primary setting | The shifting Oldest House | A reality-warped Manhattan |
| Combat emphasis | Telekinetic abilities combined with the Service Weapon | Melee-forward combat built around Dylan’s powers and Aberrant forms |
| Progression | Jesse acquires and upgrades abilities and Service Weapon forms | Resonant bosses grant abilities, while the Gap combines powers, weapon forms and talents into builds |
| Narrative focus | Jesse searches for Dylan and becomes FBC director | Dylan searches for Jesse, redemption and the source of his connection to the crisis |
The sequel is therefore not just a new location or a character swap. Its melee emphasis, build specialization and Dylan-centered psychology change how the familiar supernatural-action formula is experienced.

Warning: this section contains the reported ending and post-game state. The finale details below come from an independent spoiler guide updated October 18, 2026. Remedy’s official material establishes the premise and characters but had not published a comparable ending synopsis in the available sources, so the sequence should be read as a spoiler-guide account rather than an official summary.
Dylan destroys the Hedron
Near the conclusion, Dylan destroys the Hedron’s physical form. The act is not a conventional victory: the Hedron is anchored to Dylan, so breaking its external body does not end the connection.
The confrontation moves into Dylan’s mind
Dylan then kills the Hedron inside his own mind. This internal confrontation makes the climax both a supernatural battle and a decision about whether Dylan can define himself independently of the forces that have used him.
Jesse and Dylan exchange places
Because the Hedron is tied to Dylan, Jesse trades places with him. Dylan wakes free of his long coma and is able to move through the world again. Jesse, however, remains alive but falls into a coma in the Oldest House.

The epilogue
The epilogue mission, The Beginning, sends Dylan to visit Jesse in P6 Holding. Her presence confirms that the exchange is not presented as her death. Emily Pope cares for Jesse while Dylan faces the consequences of being free and the continuing supernatural danger.
Is Jesse dead?
No. The reported ending places Jesse in a coma, not in a grave. Dylan awakens after the exchange, while Jesse remains in P6 Holding under Emily Pope’s care. The emotional cost is still severe: the siblings are alive, but the one who spent the first game searching for her brother is now the person who cannot respond.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who or what is the Hedron?
The Hedron is a powerful resonance entity connected directly to Dylan’s mind. Its physical form can be destroyed, but the ending shows that its influence is not limited to a body in the outside world. Dylan must confront it internally, and the exchange with Jesse follows from that mental and metaphysical anchor.

The finale does not provide a complete scientific definition of the Hedron, its origin or its ultimate relationship to every other force in the setting. Treating it as simply another enemy misses why the ending requires a psychological confrontation and a transfer between the siblings.

The Hiss inside Dylan
The spoiler guide reports that the Hiss remains inside Dylan but is under control “for now.” That wording leaves open whether control is permanent, whether the Hiss can return and what Dylan’s freedom actually costs.
The Hiss and Mold in Manhattan
Destroying the Hedron does not erase the Hiss or Mold from the city. Both remain part of Manhattan’s supernatural emergency, so the ending is not a total cleansing of the setting.
The Board
The Board returns, but its motives and relationship to Dylan, Jesse and the new resonance are not fully settled. Its reappearance keeps the FBC’s extradimensional power structure active.
Dr. Darling
Dr. Casper Darling’s disappearance remains unexplained. His knowledge of resonance and the FBC makes his absence especially significant, but the reported ending does not resolve where he is or what role he may play next.

Other Hedrons and Slidescape-36
Other Hedrons are associated with Slidescape-36, suggesting that the entity linked to Dylan may be part of a larger class or network rather than a unique occurrence. The story leaves their number, nature and intentions open.
The wider Remedy multiverse
The ending preserves links to the broader multiverse surrounding Remedy’s games without closing them into a single explanation. Those connections are clues and possibilities, not proof that every mystery has one revealed answer.
