That is the practical recommendation in Epic Games Store’s guide. The 17-name inventory below is assembled from that guide—not an official, confirmed in-game total—and includes five traversal abilities, ten named Resonant combat choices, plus Ignite and Inferno, which it mentions as additional build options.
Spoiler warning: The unlock section names Faults, bosses, and a later encounter.
All 17 named abilities in Control Resonant
The list is grouped by how the abilities are described in Epic Games Store’s September 23, 2026 guide. The source does not certify that 17 is the complete official count; it is the total reconstructed from its five traversal abilities, ten named Resonant combat choices, and two additional fire-build options.
Traversal abilities
| Ability | What it does | Unlock association in Epic’s guide |
|---|---|---|
| Double-Jump | Provides a second jump for traversal. | Downtown Fault |
| Elevate | Lets Dylan float and glide in mid-air. | Downtown Fault |
| Rush | Speeds up movement and cleanses negative status effects. | Downtown Fault |
| Shift | Changes Dylan’s plane and orientation to navigate gravity-warped spaces. | West Incursion Zone Fault |
| Reach | Works like a grapple on spherical points to cross gaps. | Evacuation Zone Fault |
Resonant combat choices
| Ability | What it does | Useful role |
|---|---|---|
| Barrage | Hurls multiple projectiles. | Ranged projectile pressure |
| Volatile Anomaly | Summons an entity that can also be thrown. | Summoned threat with a throwable option |
| Shield | Absorbs damage and enables Shield Bash on dodge. | Defense and falter; Epic’s guide reports high falter from Shield Bash |
| Push | Sends enemies flying, potentially into ledges or hazards. | Displacement and environmental opportunities |
| Ground Slam | Deals area damage; its damage scales substantially with height, according to Epic’s guide. | Height-enabled area damage |
| Spore Burst | Rapidly fires Mold projectiles from Dylan’s fist. | Fast Mold projectile attacks |
| Growth | Summons up to two worm-like allies that fire Mold globules. | Autonomous pressure |
| Spike | Creates an Astral Spike that attacks nearby enemies and can knock them down. | Nearby pressure and knockdowns |
| Astral Rebuke | Erupts beneath enemies and launches them. | Launches that may set up an aerial follow-up |
| Command | Makes an enemy fight alongside Dylan. | Enemy control; recasting requires purple Command Charges, according to Epic’s guide |
Additional fire-build options
Ignite and Inferno are also named in the guide’s discussion of a Resonant Token and unlocking another combat ability in the Gap. That passage does not explain their effects or unlock routes, so their mechanics and acquisition details are not established here.

Which Control Resonant abilities are best?
There is no single best choice for every situation. The Epic guide’s picks are strongest when matched to their stated roles; other abilities may suit a different range, target, or playstyle. Its recommendations are guide advice, not comparative test results.
- Choose Shield if you want an ability that absorbs damage and adds a dodge-linked Shield Bash. Epic recommends it for survivability and highlights the Bash’s falter.
- Choose Ground Slam if you want area damage that can benefit substantially from height.
- Choose Growth if you want allies to attack while you do something else; the guide recommends it for that summon pressure.
- Consider Spike with Growth if you want another nearby attacker that can knock enemies down. Epic specifically recommends pairing the two.
- Look at Push or Astral Rebuke if creating openings through displacement or launches better suits your approach; those effects are described in the guide, but it does not rank them above the other choices.
Use role, range, and openings to decide
Compare the job you need—defense, direct projectiles, area damage, displacement, a summon, or enemy control—with how each ability targets. A projectile such as Barrage or Spore Burst acts differently from an autonomous summon such as Growth, while Push and Astral Rebuke create movement rather than simply adding another attacker. Shield offers damage absorption, and the guide describes falter, knockdowns, and occupied enemies as ways abilities can help create openings.

Account for status and build synergy
Epic’s guide says Mold abilities inflict Infected and that applying Burn to an Infected target triggers an explosion. It also says Astralized enhances Burn and Infected buildup. These are reasons to consider how abilities interact in a build, rather than judging each pick in isolation; the guide does not provide damage values or a measured ranking.
How to unlock the abilities
These route details come from Epic’s secondary guide and contain spoilers. The guide associates traversal abilities with Faults and combat choices with named Resonant encounters. Remedy’s official overview supplies the broader progression context: abilities come from defeating Resonants, some encounters branch into distinct playstyles, and a single playthrough does not unlock everything. The guide’s boss choices and its separate sixth-slot/Token discussion describe different parts of progression.

Traversal routes
- Downtown Fault: The guide says the first Downtown Fault occurs during Orientation and provides Double-Jump, Elevate, and Rush.
- West Incursion Zone Fault: The guide associates Shift with this Fault.
- Evacuation Zone Fault: The guide associates Reach with this Fault.
Resonant encounter choices
| Encounter | Choices named by Epic’s guide |
|---|---|
| The Artist | Barrage, Volatile Anomaly, or Shield |
| The Dancer | Push or Ground Slam |
| The Collective | Spore Burst or Growth |
| The Physicist | Spike or Astral Rebuke |
| Unknown Resonant | Command is awarded after this encounter, according to the guide |
The same guide describes a sixth ability slot and says a Resonant Token can unlock an additional combat ability in the Gap. That slot-and-Token detail should not be confused with the choices offered at Resonant encounters. Its passage does not give a complete route for the extra fire abilities Ignite and Inferno.
Why ability choice connects to melee combat
Remedy’s official combat explanation describes a loop in which melee hits restore Combat Ability resource, abilities stun enemies to open executions, and executions temporarily boost melee damage. Remedy’s Miika Huttunen summarized the design as: “In Control Resonant, aggression fuels power.” In practice, an ability’s value depends not only on its effect but also on how it helps you make room to return to melee and keep that cycle moving.

If managing abilities or surviving encounters is the friction point, Remedy says Assist Mode can be changed at any point during gameplay. Relevant controls include Power Recovery Speed, Incoming Damage, Outgoing Damage, Outgoing Falter, Perfect Dodge Window, and Enemy Aggression. The official article says trophies and achievements are not gated behind Assist Mode.
