Computex 2024’s keynotes connected two parts of the AI computing stack: large-scale infrastructure for building and running AI, and PCs designed to handle more AI tasks locally. NVIDIA centered its presentation on Blackwell-based “AI factories”; AMD and Intel discussed server hardware alongside new or upcoming PC platforms; and Qualcomm made Snapdragon X-powered Copilot+ PCs its consumer-facing focus.

Why data centers and AI PCs were part of the same story

AI workloads do not run in just one place. Data centers provide large-scale computing and infrastructure; a laptop’s processor and neural processing unit (NPU) can handle some AI work on the device. The four keynote stories at Computex 2024 emphasized different parts of that stack, rather than presenting data centers and AI PCs as unrelated markets.

The distinction matters: the event announcements do not establish that a particular AI PC can replace data-center computing, or that every AI task will run locally. They show vendors positioning infrastructure, accelerators, CPUs and laptop NPUs as parts of a broader computing landscape.

When were the Computex 2024 keynotes?

The Taipei event ran June 3–7, 2024. The official schedule placed NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote on June 2, ahead of the show dates; AMD’s opening keynote and Qualcomm’s keynote on June 3; and Intel’s keynote on June 4. These are 2024 event dates, not current product release schedules.

What did NVIDIA announce at Computex 2024?

NVIDIA’s emphasis was system-scale infrastructure. It described Blackwell-powered systems built with Grace CPUs, NVIDIA networking and related components, with systems being introduced by ASRock Rack, ASUS, GIGABYTE, Ingrasys, Inventec, Pegatron, QCT, Supermicro, Wistron and Wiwynn. The announcement covered cloud, on-premises, embedded and edge systems.

What is an AI factory?

NVIDIA used “AI factory” to describe a data center built around accelerated computing to produce artificial intelligence. CEO Jensen Huang framed it as a shift from traditional data centers toward infrastructure designed for AI workloads. The phrase is NVIDIA’s framing of the systems and their purpose; it is not a separate product category with a single, standardized specification.

In practical terms, NVIDIA’s keynote highlighted the complete system around the accelerator: CPUs, networking and deployment options as well as Blackwell. The named OEM and systems partners indicate the range of companies introducing systems, but the announcement does not establish that every partner offered the same configuration or that all systems were available on the same date.

How did AMD connect data-center hardware with AI PCs?

AMD presented a roadmap spanning servers and consumer PCs. At Computex it expanded its Instinct accelerator roadmap, previewed fifth-generation EPYC server processors, and launched Ryzen AI 300 mobile and Ryzen 9000 desktop processors. It also introduced XDNA 2, the NPU architecture intended for next-generation AI PCs.

AMD’s figures, and what they describe

  • MI325X memory: AMD described its planned Instinct MI325X accelerator as having 288GB of HBM3E memory. This was an announced specification for a planned product, not evidence of a comparative performance result.
  • XDNA 2: AMD said the architecture delivers 50 TOPS of AI processing performance. This is AMD’s stated figure; TOPS alone does not show how quickly a particular real-world task will run.
  • Future CDNA 4 inference: AMD projected up to 35 times better inference performance for the future CDNA 4 generation versus MI300. This is a forward-looking vendor projection, not a measured result for a product available at the event.

AMD’s keynote linked its server and client plans through a shared interest in AI computing, but those products address different deployment scales. EPYC and Instinct are server-side parts; Ryzen AI 300 is a mobile-PC processor family, and Ryzen 9000 is a desktop-PC family.

What did Intel announce across data centers and PCs?

Intel’s Computex materials paired the Xeon 6 launch, including Efficient-core models, with Gaudi 2 and Gaudi 3 accelerator pricing and the Lunar Lake architecture for AI PCs. The presentation therefore covered infrastructure and client computing, though the announcement details and metrics differ by product.

Lunar Lake claims

Intel said Lunar Lake could deliver up to 40% lower system-on-chip power than the previous generation and that its NPU was up to four times faster. These are Intel-published claims. The comparison conditions and task details are necessary for interpreting them as performance or power comparisons; the headline figures alone do not provide a like-for-like comparison with AMD or Qualcomm figures.

Intel also stated that more than 130 million Intel Xeon processors power data centers around the world. That is Intel’s characterization of its installed presence, not a Computex measurement or a comparison of the newly launched Xeon 6 with competitors.

Which AI PCs did Qualcomm present at Computex?

Qualcomm’s June 3 keynote positioned Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus as the foundations for Copilot+ PCs. Its pitch centered on on-device NPU processing and multi-day battery-life messaging. Qualcomm said the initial wave included more than 20 PCs, with retail purchase availability beginning June 18, 2024.

How to read Qualcomm’s performance comparisons

Qualcomm claimed NPU performance up to 2.6 times versus Apple M3 and up to 5.4 times versus Intel Core Ultra 7. It also claimed Snapdragon X Elite CPU performance up to 51% faster at ISO power, and performance equal to a competitor’s peak at 65% less power. These are Qualcomm’s benchmark claims, not neutral head-to-head findings. A valid comparison depends on the specific chips, tests, configurations and footnotes; the headline claims should not be treated as universal results for every laptop or workload.

“Not stated here” means the event information summarized above does not establish that detail; it should not be read as proof that a later date or specification was never announced elsewhere. The figures also describe different things: memory capacity, TOPS, vendor benchmark comparisons, and a future projection cannot be ranked as if they were one shared test.

Are Copilot+ PCs worth buying?

The 2024 keynote announcements alone are not enough to determine whether a particular Copilot+ PC is worth buying today. They explain the category’s pitch—on-device AI processing and, in Qualcomm’s case, battery-life messaging—but do not provide a model-by-model assessment of real-world runtime, application compatibility, performance or price.

For a purchase decision, compare the exact laptop configuration and your intended software, rather than relying on keynote claims. Check whether the applications and AI features you use run locally or require an internet connection, whether they support the PC’s processor architecture, and how the specific model performs under your workload. The Computex announcement set does not establish those details for every announced PC.

What Computex 2024’s AI focus amounted to

The central thread was a handoff across scales: NVIDIA emphasized infrastructure built to serve AI workloads; AMD and Intel connected server products with client platforms; and Qualcomm put local NPU processing at the center of its Windows-PC message. That made data centers and AI PCs two ends of one event narrative, while leaving vendor benchmark figures, future projections and real-world product experience distinct from one another.
