Compatible boards are mainly industrial Mini-ITX systems, embedded modules and computers, and laptop-specific system boards. If you are looking for a board for a mobile Sandy Bridge processor, do not assume a desktop LGA1155 motherboard will fit or work: verify the exact processor package, board model, BIOS, and cooling support.
Identify the chipset before choosing a board
Intel groups QS67, QM67, HM65, HM67, and UM67 under its Mobile Intel 6 Series chipsets. They belong to the 2011-era platform associated primarily with 2nd-generation Intel Core mobile processors, also known as Sandy Bridge, along with selected Celeron and embedded Core processors. Intel’s 6 Series specification update identifies the five as mobile chipsets.
These are not the usual desktop 6 Series chipsets. In particular, QM67 is not Q67: Q67 is a desktop chipset, while QM67 is a mobile chipset. A desktop board such as Gigabyte’s GA-Q67M-D2H-B3 uses desktop Q67 and is not evidence of compatibility with a QM67 mobile processor. Intel’s mobile chipset category and legacy chipset catalog distinguish product classes; the desktop or mobile label matters more than the similar name.
A marking such as BD82QM67 or BD82HM65 identifies PCH silicon, not a complete motherboard model. The same PCH may be used on boards with different CPUs, sockets, memory, firmware, connectors, and physical formats.

What the chipset variants offer
The comparison below describes capabilities attributed to the PCH in Intel’s Mobile Intel 6 Series feature table. It does not guarantee that a particular motherboard exposes every feature: the board maker decides which signals to route, enable, and connect.
| Feature | QM67 | UM67 | HM67 | HM65 | QS67 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PCI Express 2.0 ports | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 |
| SATA 6 Gb/s ports | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| Additional SATA 3 Gb/s or 1.5 Gb/s ports | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 |
| Integrated display interfaces | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Intel Rapid Storage RAID 0/1/5/10 | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Intel AMT 7.0 | Yes | No | No | No | Yes |
These distinctions are useful when comparing designs, not a substitute for a board manual. QM67 is a business and industrial-oriented option with AMT and RAID capability at the PCH level. HM65 is a lower-feature mobile option; HM67 offers a different set of capabilities, including RAID but not AMT in this table. UM67 is a low-power mobile design, while QS67 is a specialized low-power/business-oriented variant. See Intel’s feature comparison in the Mobile Intel 6 Series chipset datasheet.

Examples of compatible industrial boards and modules
The following are documented product examples, not a claim that they remain in production or are currently in stock. These are legacy products; confirm the exact configuration and condition with the seller before buying.
Mini-ITX and small-form-factor boards
- Advantech AIMB-272G2 and AIMB-272VG: The manual identifies the G2 variant with QM67 and the VG variant with HM65. It lists support for selected mobile Core i7, i5, i3, and Celeron processors. The two models illustrate why you must match the full board model, rather than relying on the family name. Consult the AIMB-272 manual for configuration details.
- Liantec ITX-QM67: A Mini-ITX QM67 board documented with a µPGA988 socket for selected 2nd-generation mobile Core processors, DDR3 memory, and VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, and LVDS outputs. Its page also lists SATA, dual Gigabit Ethernet, Mini-PCIe, and PCI Express expansion. The product page is a legacy reference, not confirmation of current stock.
- BCM Advanced Research MX67QM and MX67QMD: BCM announced these as QM67 Mini-ITX industrial boards for 2nd-generation mobile Core processors. The announcement establishes them as historical examples; it does not establish present availability or support.
- AAEON EMB-QM67: A Mini-ITX embedded board with QM67 and Socket G2/rPGA988B support, according to AAEON’s specification page. Check the documentation for the precise CPU and memory limits.
COM Express modules and platforms
- congatec conga-BM67/BS67: The manual describes module variants using QM67 or HM65. These are computer-on-modules, not complete standalone motherboards: they need a compatible carrier board for power, connectors, and external I/O. See the congatec manual.
- NEXCOM ICES 267 and ICES 267S: Product documentation identifies the ICES 267 as a QM67 COM Express platform and lists QM67 or HM65 options for the ICES 267S, including versions with onboard processors. Treat them as module-based embedded platforms, not ordinary consumer boards. The available references are the ICES 267 listing and ICES 267S listing.
Laptop and embedded system boards
HM65 and HM67 appear in laptop designs, and the other PCHs can also be part of specialized mobile or embedded systems. A laptop system board is normally tied to a particular chassis, display, battery, keyboard, cooling assembly, and I/O layout. It may be a useful replacement for the same laptop model, but it is not a general-purpose desktop motherboard. Many laptop and embedded processors are soldered down rather than socketed.

The user manual is not included in the package, you can download the user manual file on the product description page. If you need to download the driver, it is recommended to download: Driver Talent, or use Win 10 system
Socketed and soldered processors are not interchangeable
Some industrial boards accept socketed mobile CPUs, commonly documented as Socket G2, rPGA988B, or µPGA988. Other boards have a BGA processor soldered directly to the board. A socketed CPU cannot be installed in a BGA design, and a soldered CPU cannot be upgraded by swapping it like a socketed part—even if both systems use the same chipset.
Intel’s embedded platform brief describes QM67 with 2nd-generation Core i5 and i7 processors and notes that HM65 is available with a subset of platform features. It does not make every processor compatible with every board. Use the exact CPU model and the board maker’s CPU support list; the Intel platform brief provides platform context, not a board-specific compatibility guarantee.

How to verify a board before buying
- Identify the exact processor. Record the full model number and suffix; “Sandy Bridge Core i5” is not specific enough.
- Confirm the CPU package. Check whether the processor is rPGA988B/Socket G2 or BGA, and verify that the board has the matching socket or the exact processor onboard.
- Read the board’s CPU support list and manual. Confirm the exact CPU model and stepping, not merely the chipset family. Intel’s guidance is to identify the processor and use compatibility resources, including its processor compatibility guidance and Product Compatibility Tool background; board-level support still rests on the board maker.
- Check BIOS support. Ask which BIOS version is installed and whether it supports the processor. This is especially important with used boards and CPUs released in different board revisions.
- Match thermal and power requirements. Verify the board’s supported TDP, voltage, heatsink, fan, and power input. A design for a 17 W or 25 W embedded CPU should not be assumed to support a 45 W mobile CPU.
- Verify memory specifications. Confirm DDR3 type, speed, voltage, capacity, and whether the board takes SO-DIMMs or desktop DIMMs; the physical modules are not interchangeable.
- Check actual connectors and storage. Confirm which display outputs are present, whether SATA ports are 6 Gb/s or 3 Gb/s, and whether any mSATA, CFast, or proprietary storage connector is required. PCH capability alone does not guarantee a usable connector.
- Confirm form factor and required parts. Mini-ITX, COM Express, a laptop board, and a proprietary industrial board are not interchangeable. For a module, identify the compatible carrier. Check for missing heatsinks, cables, I/O shields, and power harnesses.
- Secure firmware and driver access. Before purchase, locate the manual, BIOS, and drivers if the vendor still provides them. A board that works electrically may still be difficult to maintain if essential files are unavailable.
Common buying mistakes
- Buying Q67 for a QM67 system: Similar lettering does not mean the same platform. Check the chipset in the board manual; desktop Q67 does not make a board suitable for a mobile processor.
- Assuming the chipset dictates the socket: The same PCH family can appear with socketed CPUs, soldered CPUs, modules, and custom laptop packages.
- Assuming every Sandy Bridge mobile CPU works: Package, TDP, BIOS microcode, voltage, memory support, and cooling can differ. Compatibility requires a chipset match, a board-vendor CPU-list match, and thermal and firmware support.
- Ordering a COM Express module without a carrier: The module alone may not provide the power or external connections needed to operate as a computer.
- Trusting a marketplace title: Listings may confuse HM67 with QM67, Q67 with QM67, Socket G1 with Socket G2, or a carrier with a complete module. Ask for clear photographs of the actual board markings and compare them with the original manual.
When a different replacement strategy makes more sense
For a laptop repair, the closest-fit replacement is usually the system board for the same laptop model and revision, with compatible cooling and firmware. For an embedded installation, a tested complete industrial PC can be less risky than assembling a legacy board from separate parts: CPU, carrier, cooler, cables, and power supply are already matched. If you need a general-purpose small computer rather than the original legacy interfaces or software, compare the cost and support risk of a newer industrial Mini-ITX platform or modern low-power PC.
Legacy industrial boards may be sold through specialist distributors or surplus channels, and their availability is not established by historical product pages. Prefer a seller who can confirm the exact board revision, CPU, BIOS, memory, included accessories, and tested condition; a bare board without a required carrier, heatsink, or proprietary cable may not be usable.
