Cologix announced on December 20, 2018, that it had acquired Montreal data-center company COLO•D. Cologix said the deal added 50 MW of hyperscale data-center capacity to its Montreal footprint, which then comprised seven data centers. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price.
What Cologix acquired
COLO•D contributed a Montreal hyperscale data-center campus. Cologix described the addition as 50 MW of hyperscale capacity and said its Montreal presence totaled seven data centers after the transaction. Those figures come from the 2018 announcement and should not be read as current facility or capacity totals.
Cologix’s December 20, 2018 announcement also described more than $500 million in planned Montreal data-infrastructure investment by the end of 2019. That was a forward-looking plan; the announcement does not establish the final amount invested.
Why the deal mattered strategically
Cologix presented the transaction as a combination of physical hyperscale capacity and connectivity. Its existing interconnection platform was intended to give customers access to cloud and network on-ramps alongside the acquired facility.

Connectivity offered at the time
The release said the combined platform provided access to more than 80 networks and named AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud among reachable cloud providers. These were Cologix’s descriptions of its offering at the time, not an independent performance or market-leadership assessment.
Company rationale
Cologix Chairman and CEO Bill Fathers called the acquisition part of the company’s commitment to “tethered hyperscale data centers” for hyperscale-edge and cloud-connectivity demand. COLO•D President and CEO Patrick David described Montréal as a growing strategic market with major cloud platforms and low-cost power from renewable-energy sources. Both statements are executives’ views in the acquisition announcement, rather than independent current findings.

Was the purchase price disclosed?
No purchase price or other financial terms appeared in Cologix’s acquisition announcement. The absence of a figure in that release does not establish that no financial terms were ever reported elsewhere, so a valuation should not be inferred from the available announcement.
How the deal fits Cologix’s later Canadian footprint
Cologix’s December 7, 2023 update reported 22 Canadian data centers, 1,057,000 square feet and 94 MW of power after additional acquisitions and expansions. The update mentioned two Cyxtera facility acquisitions in Vancouver and Montreal and expansions in Montreal and Toronto. Those 2023 totals describe Cologix’s broader Canadian portfolio, not the COLO•D transaction alone.

What the acquisition means for service categories
Hyperscale capacity
Hyperscale capacity refers here to large-scale data-center infrastructure intended for major cloud and technology deployments. The 50 MW figure is the capacity Cologix said COLO•D added in 2018.
Interconnection
Interconnection is the network-exchange layer Cologix emphasized: connections among customers, carriers, networks and cloud on-ramps. The deal’s stated value was pairing that connectivity ecosystem with additional Montreal facility capacity.
Colocation
Colocation generally means hosting customers’ IT equipment in a data center. The cited announcement focuses on hyperscale capacity and interconnection; it does not provide a separate, verified breakdown of colocation capacity from the acquisition.
