Chrome Lite Video was a historical data-saving behavior for web videos, not a separate product. A 2020 report said it simulated a slower connection so some video players could lower resolution. Its old Chrome flags are not verified as available today, so the historical instructions should not be treated as current setup advice.
What was Chrome Lite Video?
Lite Video was described as a way to reduce data used by web video. Rather than being a standalone app or device, it altered how Chrome handled media responses so compatible players could react as if bandwidth were limited.
MojAndroid.sk’s 16 July 2020 explanation said that limiting media responses could prompt video players using Media Source Extensions (MSE) to choose a lower resolution. Lower-resolution playback can use less data, although that explanation is historical secondary-source reporting, not current official technical documentation.
How did the historical Lite Video setting work?
The 2020 instructions used Chrome’s experimental flags page, chrome://flags. They described searching for “Lite,” enabling EnableLiteVideos, and restarting Chrome; the report also mentioned a related flag named Force LiteVideos Decision. A 2021 NotebookSPEC article likewise discussed Lite Video-related flags.

These are historical directions only. The sources do not establish that either flag remains in Chrome, which platforms may have supported it, or whether it was available in any particular region. Do not rely on the old flag names as a current way to turn the feature on.
Can you still turn on Chrome Lite Video?
Current availability is unverified. The historical reports document earlier flag instructions, but no current official confirmation establishes that Chrome still exposes Lite Video or an equivalent setting. If you do not see a relevant option in your Chrome version, the old articles are not evidence that it should be present; they also do not establish a current menu path or supported device.

How Lite Video differed from Chrome Lite mode
Chrome Lite mode, also called Data Saver in the historical account, was a broader data-saving feature and should not be confused with the specific Lite Video behavior.
| Feature | What the cited source describes | Status or scope established by the source |
|---|---|---|
| Lite Video | Simulated limited bandwidth by limiting media responses, potentially leading MSE players to lower video resolution. | Historical explanation and flag directions reported by MojAndroid.sk on 16 July 2020; present availability is not established. MojAndroid.sk |
| Chrome Lite mode / Data Saver | Page compression and, for Android users with Lite mode enabled, automatic lazy loading of offscreen images and iframes in Chrome 77. | Chromium’s November 2019 account concerns Lite mode generally, not Lite Video. Google/Chromium said Lite mode could reduce data use “up to 60%”; that was not a Lite Video benchmark. Chromium Blog |
The 2019 figure of “up to 60%” applies to Lite mode’s general data savings as described by Google/Chromium, with most of the reduction attributed to compressing pages before download. It should not be interpreted as a measured saving from Lite Video.
