For a Chrome extension that captures an entire webpage and exports it as a PDF, start with GoFullPage. Choose FireShot if you also want options such as visible-area or selected-area capture, or need a PDF with links and text—but FireShot lists that PDF capability as an upgrade feature. In either case, check whether the exported file is one continuous page or paginated, and inspect the result before relying on it.

Which extension should you choose?

What matters GoFullPage FireShot
Capture and export Full-page capture; exports an image or PDF. Full-page, visible-area, or selected-area capture; saves PDF, JPEG, GIF, or PNG.
PDF format Configurable paper sizes. Its listing says very large captures that Chrome cannot store as one image may be split into images. Single-page or paginated PDF with direct links and text is advertised as an upgrade feature. Confirm the current plan and test the output if you need this.
Additional workflow Opens a result in a new tab; listing describes a premium editor for cropping and annotation. Listing describes batch capture, editing, clipboard, and print actions; some features require an upgrade.
Privacy information Listing describes capture without extra permissions. Review the current store disclosures before installing. Listing says captures are stored locally and the extension can work offline. Its Chrome Web Store disclosure says the developer will not collect or use user data. These are developer disclosures, not an independent security audit.

GoFullPage is the more direct fit when the main task is capturing a whole page and exporting it with a chosen paper size. FireShot is worth considering when its additional capture modes or advertised PDF links-and-text capability match your workflow. Store listings and features can change; check each extension’s live listing before installing.

Choose the PDF shape that suits the job

One continuous page

A single long page keeps the capture in one uninterrupted vertical image, which can be convenient for visual reference. It may be awkward to read on screen or print, especially when the webpage is very long. A screenshot-derived PDF is not automatically a searchable text document.

Paginated pages

Standard-size pages are generally easier to print and read in a document viewer. Pagination can divide content at inconvenient points, so inspect page breaks and text size. GoFullPage lists configurable PDF paper sizes; FireShot advertises single-page or paginated PDF, with direct links and text listed as an upgrade feature.

Capture and check a page

  1. Install GoFullPage or FireShot from its Chrome Web Store listing, after reviewing the current permissions and privacy disclosures.
  2. Open the webpage you need and use the extension’s capture control. For FireShot, choose full-page capture rather than visible-area or selected-area capture when you need the entire page.
  3. Choose PDF export and set the available page or paper-size options for how you intend to read, share, or print the file.
  4. Open the exported PDF and check the beginning, middle, and end of the page. Look for missing content, repeated sticky headers or other fixed elements, awkward page breaks, and text that is too small to read.
  5. If the page is important, make a test capture first and keep the original page address and capture date with the file when appropriate.

What can go wrong with full-page capture?

Extensions may capture a page by scrolling through it, and modern pages can change as that happens. Lazy-loaded images may not appear until their section is reached; embedded frames and fixed or sticky elements can also affect the result. GoFullPage describes support for complex pages and its change log records fixes related to scrolling, frames, and capture behavior, but that does not establish that every site will capture correctly.

  • Missing images or sections: Check whether the page loads content as you scroll, then try again after the page has finished loading. Verify the exported file rather than assuming the whole page was captured.
  • Repeated or misplaced sticky elements: Inspect sections around page transitions. A fixed navigation bar or chat panel may appear more than once in a scroll-based capture.
  • Very large page: GoFullPage’s listing says a page too large for Chrome to store in one image may be split into images. Check whether the resulting PDF is usable for your purpose.
  • Protected browser pages: GoFullPage’s listing notes that some protected Chrome pages cannot be captured. An extension may not be able to capture browser-internal or otherwise restricted pages.
  • Unclear text or page breaks: Try a different PDF layout or paper size if available, then inspect the result at normal reading size and in print preview if printing matters.

Privacy and handling sensitive pages

Captures of account pages, personal records, or confidential material may contain sensitive information. Read the live Chrome Web Store disclosures and the extension publisher’s statements before use. FireShot’s claims about local storage and offline operation, and the store’s data disclosure, are statements from the product and developer; they are not a substitute for an independent security audit. Avoid capturing sensitive content unless the extension and your organization’s policies are appropriate for it.

Alternative: capture a webpage through an API

If you need screenshots as part of a script or automated workflow rather than a one-off browser capture, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It returns a screenshot or PDF from a GET request. This is not a Chrome extension and does not replace the extensions’ hands-on export workflow.

Or skip the browser setup

For a PDF capture, request the PDF output using the documented API options at ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation. For example, this cURL request captures a URL to a WebP image:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides the take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Built-in alternative for technical users

Chrome DevTools has a command-menu route for browser actions and may suit a technically comfortable user who wants a built-in capture option. It is not a direct replacement for extension-based PDF export, so use an extension when its PDF workflow and export controls are what you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are full-page screenshot PDFs searchable?

Not necessarily. A PDF made from a screenshot may contain page imagery rather than selectable text. FireShot advertises direct links and text as an upgrade feature, so check the plan and test the resulting file if searchability matters.

Can an extension capture every Chrome page?

No. Some protected Chrome pages cannot be captured, and complex or dynamically loaded sites may produce incomplete results. Check the specific extension’s current listing and inspect a test capture.
