The campaign follows two threads after North Korea invades South Korea: a young South Korean squad fighting on the collapsing front lines, and Captain Price pursuing a personal vendetta. The cast includes the squad leader Park Hyun-jun, performed by Young Mazino, and Price, performed by Barry Sloane. The story moves between settings including Seoul and Hajin, North Korea, Paris, New York, and Mumbai. This is a continuation of the 2019 reboot timeline, not a remake or direct continuation of the original 2007–2011 storyline.
There are 16 campaign missions, with reported completion estimates ranging from about six to 10 hours depending on pace and how much time is spent exploring the open-combat mission. For context, Black Ops 7 has a co-op campaign described by reviewers as short—around four to five hours—and divisive, with hallucinatory set pieces and an always-online hub that cannot be paused. If your main reason to buy is a strong solo story, it is difficult to justify its $69.99 price over Modern Warfare 4 on the evidence available here.

There are practical caveats. Reviewers have raised issues with skill-based matchmaking and lobby disbanding, uneven map quality, hit registration, perceived differences between time-to-kill and time-to-die, and sluggish vehicle combat in Ground War. These are reported criticisms, not guarantees every player will encounter them. The broad point is that Modern Warfare 4 suits people who already enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer; it is unlikely to convert someone tired of the series’ basic pace and structure.
Season 1 is scheduled for 6 November 2026. Officially announced additions include Backstab, Canyon, and a reimagined Shoot House at launch, with Ministry and Overflow planned for mid-season, plus other classified maps. Modern Warfare 4 vs Black Ops 6: which should you choose?
Choose Modern Warfare 4 for the current Infinity Ward campaign, grounded 6v6, or DMZ. Choose Black Ops 6 if your deciding factors are Zombies, omnimovement, or continuing the Black Ops story—and especially if you can access it through Game Pass Ultimate.
Black Ops 6, released in 2024 by Treyarch and Raven, is the stronger recent Treyarch package in the available review comparison: its PC Metascore was 83, compared with 65 for Black Ops 7. It has a well-regarded campaign set in the early 1990s around the Desert Storm era, omnimovement in multiplayer, and Zombies. The movement system is a major dividing line: Black Ops 6 is for players who like its more mobile feel; Modern Warfare 4 is for players who prefer the more grounded approach. Do I need to buy Call of Duty to play Warzone?

The timing matters if you want the new game’s content in Warzone. Before Season 1, Warzone remains on its final Black Ops 7 season; Modern Warfare 4 weapons, operators, and progression integration arrive when the season turns. Season 1 goes live at 0000 ET on 6 November 2026 (2100 PT on 5 November). It brings the new maps Hajin and Zodiac and the return of Verdansk and Rebirth Island, alongside additional modes and features. A dedicated Warzone information post was scheduled for 2 November, so not every map or mode detail was available in the 30 October published information.
Do not assume all old paid-game content carries forward unchanged. Modern Warfare 4 does not use the broad carry-forward model of Modern Warfare III. After Season 1, legacy operators and weapon blueprints can appear in Warzone, but legacy weapons are limited to a five-attachment preset rather than full Gunsmith customization, and legacy camos do not carry.
Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?
No—not at launch. Activision’s 15 October 2026 announcement says Modern Warfare 4 is a standalone release and will not join Game Pass until holiday 2027. To play it at launch, buy the game separately.
Game Pass Ultimate still includes legacy entries including Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare III. Warzone remains free and separate from the subscription.
