ChatGPT Pulse is a real OpenAI feature, but it is not a standalone $200 AI assistant. Pulse is a once-daily proactive briefing experience associated with ChatGPT Pro: it researches topics using eligible chats, memory, feedback, and connected apps, then presents visual updates. Most people should not subscribe to Pro for Pulse alone.

OpenAI introduced Pulse on September 25, 2025, as an early mobile preview for ChatGPT Pro users on iOS and Android. The feature is designed to prepare personalized information while you are away and show it the next day. OpenAI’s description supports daily research and preparation—not a fully autonomous executive assistant that independently manages your calendar, sends messages, or completes every task.

Information checked: August 16, 2026. Pricing, eligibility, supported platforms, and interface controls can change because Pulse began as a preview.

Key takeaways

  • ChatGPT Pulse refreshes approximately once per day and presents personalized visual summaries based on eligible chats, memory, feedback, connected apps, and user-curated interests.
  • Pulse is associated with ChatGPT Pro; the $200 monthly price belongs to the broader Pro subscription, not to a separately sold Pulse product.
  • OpenAI initially launched Pulse on September 25, 2025, as a mobile preview for ChatGPT Pro users on iOS and Android.
  • Pulse can help prepare a day with research, suggestions, and calendar-related context, but official documentation does not establish that Pulse independently reschedules meetings, sends emails, books appointments, or manages a complete schedule.
  • ChatGPT Pro makes the strongest financial case for people who also need high usage limits, advanced models, deep research, voice, Sora, Operator-related capabilities, or Codex-related access.

What is ChatGPT Pulse?

ChatGPT Pulse is a proactive, once-daily ChatGPT feed that prepares personalized research and briefings without requiring the user to begin with a question. OpenAI says Pulse can use eligible context such as recent conversations, memory, direct feedback, connected apps, and user-curated interests to create visual cards or summaries.

OpenAI’s Pulse announcement describes the feature as an early step toward AI systems that can research, plan, and take helpful actions proactively. In practical terms, Pulse is closer to a personalized morning briefing than to a digital employee with permission to run your day.

A Pulse update may be useful for monitoring recurring interests, preparing for upcoming obligations, summarizing relevant information, or suggesting topics worth exploring. Users can open a card for more detail, ask follow-up questions, give positive or negative feedback, curate future topics, and save useful material into a normal chat.

Is ChatGPT Pulse a separate $200 product?

No. ChatGPT Pulse is not presented as a separately priced product on OpenAI’s official product and pricing pages. ChatGPT Pro is the subscription; Pulse is one feature or experience associated with the premium ChatGPT offering.

Term What it means
ChatGPT Pro OpenAI’s high-end individual ChatGPT subscription tier, with broader premium capabilities and higher usage allowances.
ChatGPT Pulse A proactive, approximately once-daily personalized briefing experience inside ChatGPT.
Overnight research The asynchronous research and preparation process OpenAI describes as taking place while the user is away, often overnight.
Daily cards or updates The visual summaries and topics displayed in the Pulse experience the next day.

According to OpenAI’s pricing page, the $200 monthly price is attached to the highest Pro offering and its wider collection of capabilities. The price should therefore be evaluated as the cost of a broad AI subscription, not as the price of one daily digest.

Why is ChatGPT Pulse associated with a $200 subscription?

The $200 figure became part of the Pulse conversation because the initial rollout targeted ChatGPT Pro users, and ChatGPT Pro was widely presented at that time as a $200-per-month plan. OpenAI’s pricing page describes Pro as a high-usage tier with access to multiple advanced capabilities, including advanced voice, deep research, Sora, Operator-related features, and Codex-related access.

OpenAI documentation also describes a newer $100 Pro tier while retaining the $200 Pro plan as the highest usage option. Because OpenAI’s plans and entitlements are subject to change, readers should compare the current Pro tier documentation and the live plan page before upgrading.

The correct commercial question is not “Is a morning briefing worth $200?” The useful question is “Will the complete ChatGPT Pro bundle save or generate enough value for me to justify its current price?” For most users, Pulse alone is not a strong justification.

How does ChatGPT Pulse work overnight?

ChatGPT Pulse uses an asynchronous workflow: the user provides context and preferences, ChatGPT performs research while the user is away, and the next day Pulse displays a set of personalized visual updates. OpenAI describes the feature as refreshing daily rather than running as a continuously active personal agent.

  1. You provide context. Your conversations, stated interests, goals, feedback, and selected connected apps may give ChatGPT information about what could be useful.
  2. ChatGPT identifies possible topics. The system uses that eligible context to determine which updates, recommendations, or briefings may be relevant.
  3. Pulse performs asynchronous research. OpenAI describes the work as happening overnight or while you are away. Exact timing may vary, and the feature is not a guarantee of a particular delivery time.
  4. Pulse prepares visual cards. The next daily set of updates can be scanned quickly or opened for a deeper view.
  5. You correct the system. Follow-up questions, feedback, topic curation, and saving items into a regular chat help turn a useful card into an ongoing conversation.

OpenAI’s help documentation says Pulse aims to include new evening requests in the following morning’s updates, but the documentation does not promise continuous monitoring or exact timing.

Simple model: Your context → asynchronous research → daily cards → feedback and follow-up.

What can Pulse help with, and what can it not do?

Pulse can help prepare a day by surfacing information, summarizing topics, and using connected-app context. The available official evidence does not establish Pulse as a complete scheduling, communication, or task-execution system.

Pulse can help with Do not assume Pulse can
Daily research summaries Run your entire schedule without supervision
Calendar-informed preparation Automatically reschedule meetings or resolve conflicts
Monitoring recurring interests Guarantee that its priority ranking matches your real priorities
Morning preparation and suggestions Replace a calendar, task manager, or human assistant
Follow-up research on a displayed topic Send messages, book appointments, make purchases, or execute every recommendation
Saving useful information into a chat Guarantee that every summary or recommendation is accurate

“Works overnight” describes when research and preparation can happen; it does not mean that Pulse will finish all the work implied by a recommendation. Pulse may suggest how to approach a busy day, but the user remains responsible for checking the calendar and carrying out consequential actions.

What does a Pulse update look like?

OpenAI describes Pulse as a once-daily collection of visual summaries or cards. The cards are intended to be scanned quickly, with expanded views available when a topic deserves more attention.

The documented interaction model includes:

  • Scanning a set of personalized visual updates.
  • Opening an item for additional detail.
  • Asking follow-up questions about an item.
  • Giving thumbs-up or thumbs-down-style feedback where available.
  • Curating topics so future updates better match your interests.
  • Saving an item into a normal chat for continued work.

Exact button labels, navigation locations, and mobile layouts should not be treated as permanent. Pulse was introduced as a preview, so the current interface may differ from screenshots or early coverage.

What information can ChatGPT Pulse use?

OpenAI identifies past chats, memory, direct feedback, and connected apps—such as a calendar—as possible sources of context for Pulse. Access depends on the account, permissions granted, connected services, and the feature’s current implementation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That does not mean Pulse automatically reads everything on your phone. A connected calendar or other app supplies only the access allowed through its permissions and the relevant product configuration. Users should avoid assuming that a service can see data they have not explicitly connected.

Privacy questions to answer before connecting data

  • Am I comfortable with ChatGPT using personal conversations to infer interests, routines, and priorities?
  • Do my calendar entries reveal confidential medical, legal, financial, family, or workplace information?
  • Would connecting an employer-managed calendar or mailbox violate company policy?
  • Am I mixing personal and work information in one ChatGPT account?
  • Should I limit memory before testing a feature that personalizes recommendations?
  • What will I do if Pulse draws an incorrect conclusion from an old or casual conversation?

Personalization and privacy are a trade-off: Pulse can become more relevant with more context, but more context also gives the system more personal information from which to make inferences. Connect only the apps and data sources that provide clear value, and review permissions when the experience feels intrusive or inaccurate.

What are ChatGPT Pulse’s main limitations?

Pulse is most useful when treated as an imperfect daily briefing, not as an authority on your commitments or priorities. OpenAI’s documentation acknowledges that Pulse is an early preview and that its suggestions may miss the mark.

  • Daily rather than real-time: Pulse is described as a daily refresh, so it is not a substitute for live calendar alerts, breaking-news notifications, or continuous workflow monitoring.
  • Irrelevant recommendations: Pulse may surface a topic that was mentioned casually, has become obsolete, or is no longer important.
  • Faulty prioritization: A calendar event may be optional, private, already handled, or much less important than another task that Pulse cannot see.
  • Summary errors: A concise card can omit context or contain an incorrect interpretation. Important details require checking against the original email, document, calendar, or source.
  • Information overload: More cards do not necessarily mean a better morning. A proactive feed can create distraction instead of reducing it.
  • Preview uncertainty: Availability, controls, supported platforms, and plan eligibility may change as OpenAI develops the feature.

Verify meeting times, travel arrangements, deadlines, financial information, medical information, legal or compliance claims, and recommendations involving money or safety before acting on them.

Who should consider ChatGPT Pro for Pulse?

ChatGPT Pro is most defensible for people who already need several high-end ChatGPT capabilities and would also appreciate a proactive briefing. Pulse should be treated as an additional benefit, not the sole reason for a $100 or $200 subscription.

User type Likely verdict Reason
Heavy professional AI user Potentially worthwhile High usage and multiple premium tools may justify Pro; Pulse adds a proactive layer.
Occasional ChatGPT user Probably not worthwhile A daily briefing is unlikely to justify the highest individual tier by itself.
Calendar-focused user Probably not worthwhile for Pulse alone Pulse can provide context and suggestions but is not established as an autonomous calendar manager.
Research-heavy user Potentially worthwhile Deep research and other advanced capabilities may matter more than Pulse.
Privacy-sensitive user Use caution or skip Personalization may require sharing context that the user does not want an AI system to infer from.
User seeking only reminders Choose a conventional productivity stack A calendar, task manager, and scheduled reminders may solve the problem more predictably and cheaply.

Before subscribing, ask yourself: Would I pay for ChatGPT Pro without Pulse? Do I need the other Pro capabilities? Do I want a briefing, or do I need actual task execution? Would a lower OpenAI tier, a scheduled prompt, or a conventional calendar and task manager meet the need?

How can you try ChatGPT Pulse?

Because account eligibility and interface labels can vary, use the following verification-based procedure rather than relying on an old screenshot or an unverified menu path:

  1. Sign in to ChatGPT with the account you intend to use.
  2. Check the current subscription under Settings → My Plan or the account’s current plan page.
  3. Open the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS or Android, because the original Pulse preview was mobile-focused.
  4. Look for Pulse in the current ChatGPT navigation or home experience.
  5. Review memory settings before enabling personalization.
  6. Connect only the apps and data sources you are comfortable sharing.
  7. Tell ChatGPT which subjects, goals, routines, or upcoming obligations would make a daily briefing useful.
  8. Review the first daily cards critically rather than assuming that relevance implies accuracy.
  9. Use available feedback and curation controls to correct irrelevant results.
  10. Save useful items to a regular chat if you want to research or act on them.
  11. Revoke app permissions or disable memory if the results are intrusive or inaccurate.

Do not assume that a Pro subscription guarantees immediate Pulse access. Availability may vary by account, region, platform, and rollout status.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should you do if Pulse is missing?

If Pulse does not appear, first verify eligibility and current rollout status; troubleshooting cannot activate a feature that has not reached an account or region.

  1. Confirm that the account is on an eligible current Pro tier.
  2. Update the ChatGPT mobile app.
  3. Check whether Pulse is limited on your platform, in your region, or during a staged rollout.
  4. Review memory and connected-app permissions.
  5. Sign out of ChatGPT and sign back in.
  6. Check OpenAI’s current release notes and help center.
  7. Contact OpenAI support if the account appears eligible but Pulse remains absent.

How does ChatGPT Pulse compare with alternatives?

Pulse is not the only way to receive proactive AI information. The best alternative depends on whether the reader values ecosystem integration, high-volume conversation, cited research, or predictable task management.

Option Best for How it differs from Pulse Important qualification
ChatGPT Plus or a lower Pro tier People who want more ChatGPT access without the highest usage tier May offer a better price-to-use fit than $200 Pro Do not assume Pulse is included unless the current account documentation confirms it.
Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra People deeply invested in Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Drive, and Google’s ecosystem Google promotes a Daily Brief experience and proactive assistant features Verify current Daily Brief availability, plan eligibility, and data permissions.
Claude Max Users who need substantially higher Claude usage Official materials reviewed emphasize usage capacity rather than an equivalent overnight personalized Pulse feed Claude Max 20x was listed at $200 per month in the reviewed material; pricing can change.
Perplexity Max Users focused on web research, citations, and research workflows Perplexity emphasizes advanced models, Comet’s Max Assistant, file and app creation, and research-oriented memory It is more research- and search-centric than a direct morning-agenda replacement.
Calendar plus task manager People who want reliable planning, reminders, and predictable execution Offers explicit schedules and tasks without asking a general-purpose AI to infer priorities May lack Pulse’s personalized research summaries, but can be the better fit for basic planning.

Google’s subscription page promotes a Daily Brief feature, making Google’s ecosystem a particularly relevant comparison for people whose work already lives in Gmail and Google Calendar. Claude’s official plan material emphasizes higher usage, while Perplexity’s Max documentation emphasizes research, assistant, creation, and memory capabilities rather than an identical daily Pulse feed.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth $200 per month for Pulse?

For most people, no—not for Pulse alone. The $200 subscription becomes more reasonable when the same user also makes intensive use of ChatGPT’s broader premium bundle.

According to OpenAI’s pricing information, ChatGPT Pro’s value proposition includes high usage access and premium capabilities such as advanced models, deep research, advanced voice, Sora, Operator-related access, and Codex-related features. A professional who uses several of those capabilities frequently may reasonably evaluate Pro as a productivity platform.

A person who only wants a simple morning agenda should compare a lower-cost ChatGPT plan, a scheduled briefing, Google’s Daily Brief if they use Google services, or a standard calendar-and-task workflow. A daily summary is not the same as reliable task scheduling, and a proactive card is not necessarily worth paying for when ordinary reminders solve the problem.

The most honest recommendation is to subscribe to Pro only if the complete bundle earns its price even when Pulse is removed from the calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ChatGPT Pulse cost $200 by itself?

No. ChatGPT Pulse is not documented as a separately sold $200 product. The $200 monthly price belongs to the highest ChatGPT Pro tier, which includes a broader set of premium capabilities; Pulse is an associated proactive briefing experience.

Can ChatGPT Pulse manage my calendar automatically?

ChatGPT Pulse can use connected-app context such as calendar information to help prepare a briefing, but official documentation does not establish that Pulse independently reschedules meetings, sends messages, books appointments, or manages a complete calendar.

Does ChatGPT Pulse work continuously throughout the day?

No. OpenAI describes Pulse as an approximately once-daily asynchronous research experience. Pulse is not documented as a continuously running monitoring system or a replacement for real-time calendar and news alerts.

What devices initially supported ChatGPT Pulse?

OpenAI initially launched ChatGPT Pulse as a mobile preview for ChatGPT Pro users on iOS and Android. Current availability may vary by account, region, platform, and rollout status.

Should I subscribe to ChatGPT Pro only to get Pulse?

Most people should not subscribe to ChatGPT Pro for Pulse alone. Pro is more defensible when a user also needs high ChatGPT usage and several premium capabilities such as deep research, advanced voice, Sora, Operator-related tools, or Codex-related access.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: ChatGPT Pulse is an intriguing proactive layer on top of ChatGPT, not a standalone $200 AI assistant or a fully autonomous executive assistant. Pulse can research topics overnight and present personalized daily cards, but the $100 or $200 Pro decision should depend on the complete ChatGPT bundle. If you only need a morning agenda, a lower-cost plan or conventional productivity tools will usually be the more sensible choice.
